Good read again Paul. Thanks even if you could not find many positives. But I have to conclude that, glass half-full man as I am, you are right.

Too early to be worried in my opinion. We will be alright Obviously hope you are right. But what is your definition of "alright"? League 2 survival, promotion? And on what do you base this opinion? Just a gut feel or something more concrete?

Agree entirely with you Paul. We also had to negotiate passage from the plod. Unfortunately some of the supporters allowed themselves to be provoked and some fairly strong arm stuff was looming as we got away.
We face, in Newport, another physical side this weekend and it will be interesting to see how the game pans out. Maybe Whingy will be back to provide some proper defense?

My opinion is based on the fact that we haven't been going and getting dicked by teams, and looking at the competition for those two qualification spots for the Conference, we are simply not sh it enough.

Last night they failed to beat Eastleigh.

If you are not currently worried about out current lack of wins / points that we have gained so far this season then you are either one of the following.... 1 - stupid 2 - smoking something that is illegal 3 - Michael Appleton 4 - The Skrill Conference I am very much in favour of a long term strategy to progress our football club, however how many times have we heard it before, Can we not just be successful by getting the right mix of youth, experience, hard workers and that winning mentality that gains promotion.

An enjoyable read as always, Paul, and one expressing sentiments that I share. The bottom line in football IS about points on the board, and we're second bottom of the whole of the FL BECAUSE we've only managed to get 7 of them. I'm not sure who Bicester Yellow believes are the most likely candidates for the drop if not us, presumably Carlisle and they're bottom and possibly Hartlepool who are just above us. I suspect that both these sides will begin to pick up - the former HAS a new manager and the latter is bringing in some better players from what I read; can we say the same thing?
It's also very much the case not simply good enough to assert that it's too soon to start worrying about the situation where in. As I've mentioned on other posts, the last time we were relegated - 2005/6 - we had managed to get 16 pts by the end of September. To simply be on a PAR with the same number of points we had by the end of the October of 2005, we'll need to have won every single game this month. Given MAAP's stated position not to abandon Plan A, can anyone seriously see that occurring?

I don't think that those supporting Mapp's way of doing things are not worried about the points total. Speaking only for myself I am concerned, but I'm also confident that the new, better players that have joined us, along with the improvement of the youngsters over last season, and the coaching that Mapp and DF will be putting the players through will improve the results.

Surely an expert on football such as yourself should be able to see that this year should see less points needed for survival. I would say that 5 points a month until May should see us safe, and in Septmber we got more than that. We won't be troubled by relegation, as the results will at least slightly pick up towards the end of the season.

That would be another 35 points to add to the 7 we've already got. And there's one game in May. I'll go mad and say we'll win that. 45 points then. Um. Would've been enough in 11/12, but not 10/11, 12/13 & 13/14. And why are you convinced that less points are needed for survival. If and when the manager shows that he has got the tactical nous to beat these physical L2 teams then I will consider believing.

I just think this year there is a greater disparity between the best teams and worst teams in the division, leading to a lower number of points being required for survival. 42, I believe, will be enough. Have a positive outlook. Be realistic, too. There's so much shit in the division this year that by the end we won't be in the bottom 2, 3 or even 4.

Does Exeter beating Bury last week give you pause for thought? Or Accrington 3 wins in 4? Don't understand where you're coming from. Torquay were truly dreadful last year, and they have been replaced by Luton and Cambridge, who are both perfectly decent. Ok, Bristol Rovers were not appalling, but no-one can convince me after last Saturday that Luton is easier.

In fact it constantly lies, all the way through the season, right up until the final ball has been kicked. Only then will it tell the truth.
