Having clarke back will add a degree of confidence to the back four, which could be the difference between keeping a clean sheet and that one silly mistake that ruins everything...
I reckon we'll keep a clean sheet for the first 80 minutes, but will we be able to hold it for the last 15.....(I know that's 95 but I'm including stoppage time)? I note 24th play 22nd, so a chance for us to get some distance on one of them and/or meaning a point will be enough to keep us off the bottom...

Haven't got much confidence in the team at the moment and I think it's a sign how desperate we are that people are looking for a switch of goalkeepers to turn our fortunes round.
That said, Newport are the kind of team we need to be performing against at home. If Appleton can coax a bit of urgency out of the midfield then we should have the ability to pick up a goal or two.

I'm going to go for a close 1-0 win, with Howard getting the goal in the 63rd minute

Here we go then!
Changed my mind about the importance of this game. If we win it won't mean that much in isolation, but if we lose our fan base will be very, very jittery.
Still going for 1-0 Oxford, but probably a better crowd than predicted in my opening post because it seems Newport are bringing a few. Maybe 4,600 in total.
Continue to entertain us please, but let's have some grit and get another win on the board.

Today, home win, the beginning of something beautiful. Man up the rest of you, we're on a journey lol
As for me, I'm chilled and looking forward to today on what will be a greasy surface. Will start to worry about things if, and I don't think for a minute this will be the case, we are in the bottom third in January.

It going to be a good day. The return of Clarke. Return to the bench of whing. Barnett really showing what he's all about with 2 good goals. A bit of an improvement in crowd numbers, and a really enjoyable 3-1 win that has us all going home happy. Despite the weather

Home defeat I reckon can see chapman scoring in a 2-1 defeat, and the fans start to get on MApp's back, I bloody hope I'm wrong!!

Going to miss most of this game as sister-in-law has decided that 50 years of marriage should be celebrated. So the missus and I have to be present at the wake.
One day it's all going to come together, is today that day? I hope so. 4-1 for the mighty Yellows.

Wet pitch may suit our zippy passing game.
3-2 Oxford with Barnett getting 2 and Mullins from a set piece.
Nervy last 5 minutes as we hang on for a deserved 3 points.
COYY!

A really quiet build up to this game. I hope we keep a clean sheet, and play well today. It would be good to see us boss a game both through possession and physically. I hope that a good result will be something we talk about, rather than passing around the back and a mistake for their goal.
Come on Oxford!!

I'd like info/comments on 'Yellow player' since I'm not able to attend as many matches as I used to. For instance, I have read comments on this forum about Yellow player 'Not working, again'!!

Comfortable win.
Can't decide the score.
Dare I stick the proverbial out and plump for 4-0? I think I do.
One each for Hylton, Barnett, Collins and Riley.

I've set the next five games to show that MApp is capable of managing in this league. I've even allowed him a couple of defeats to at least show he can have us winning games.
Can't predict today's outcome, but we'll have a very unhappy fan base if we lose again.

I'd like info/comments on 'Yellow player' since I'm not able to attend as many matches as I used to. For instance, I have read comments on this forum about Yellow player 'Not working, again'!! Apart from a few problems at the start of the season when the people who run the service forget to switch it on, their hasn't been any major problems with yellow player this season. That might have something to do with the good weather we have been having, as in the past the problems only to occur when the weather has turned for the worse. Use the old player as their is a longer time delay on the newer version. Enjoy the game and here's to picking up a win and 3 points Oh shit i understand that it's raining in Oxford, hopefully that don't cause any problems today

U's v Newport - CLARKEY IS BACK! Clarke, Riley, Mullins, Raynes, Newey, Collins, Rose, Hylton, Howard, O'Dowda, Barnett Mullins takes the captain's armband as Wright suffered a slight knock to his knee in training yesterday. Raynes deputizes
wright shows a bit of form and then gets injured -typical!
