So, we've scored 11 (ELEVEN)goals in the last three games, but I'm sick of Wilder's negative tactics...wish I could be at the Kassam to watch Mapp and his total football...after all, It's not the result that counts...It's exciting footie that we want!!! Not sure if you're being sarcastic or not, Mr Northampton Fan, so I'll assume you are. You may have scored 11 goals in three, but you've only got three points. We have five points and (only) four goals from the last three. We have certainly been playing attractive football, so, again, I'll assume you have been too. Overall, I think we Oxford fans have had the better deal. Just my opinion.

I'm glad you keep replying Charlie as more and more posters are getting to see the way you tick.
You had a major sulk when I suggested that there were sour grapes following you missing out on your bid. You and those close to you quickly set out to undermine the new team but despite your concerns things are actually looking more positive than they have in years.
Everything you post has a hidden edge of criticism and it is getting boring. You can label me as much as you like but it won't stop me from highlighting what I see as someone who might appear fine on the outside, but inside is a bitterness that masks your views.

Believe me, we have a team playing very exciting football, no hoof from us...Marc Richards, top scorer in League Two. Seems to me, too many excuses being made from the 'Wilder Out' brigade, trying to save face!

You're not the only one but a lot of your posts seem overly personal rather than sticking to the subject matter.
Which I think is a shame. I may not agree with everything you write but you have some good points to make. It is possible to disagree without being personal.

Umm... I know that you live in the far west of England, and therefore probably never attend a game, but if you did then you would know that we have won 6 - yes SIX - games in eague 2 this calendar year. That is SIX victories out of 32 games. So in 2014 we are winning at the rate of one in every 5 games. And that has been so under Chris Wilder, Mickey Lewis, Gary Waddock and Michael Appleton. In fact, if one were to be very brutal one might point out that as far as I can recall we have only won one game in 2014 against a side with 11 players on the pitch for 90 minutes. This is not a point, therefore, against the current management. It is pointing out that, in the end, effectiveness does matter. We do need to get better - far better - at the business of actually scoring 3 points. Talk of 'unbeaten runs' makes me want to scream. We have just taken 5 points from the last 3 games. Who would not have rather have won 2 of those games and lost won, for a total of six points and the tear-jerking, devastating loss of our 'unbeaten run'. The 'unbeaten run' amounts to 7 points from 5 games (games that included Exeter, Accrington, Dagenham and an injury-ravaged Stevenage). That is, at best, lower mid-table form. So an improvement on bottom of the table form, but hardly the basis for your hallelujahs. I am capable both of appreciating sincerely what our players and coaches are trying to do, together with urging on them a steelier determination to grind out a few more wins. Because, unlike you, I do not enjoy being 21st in League 2. So you continue with your negativity, not only was I at today's game, I have attended all the home games this season. Where I live has no bearing on what your posts infer. Regarding the massive chip on your shoulder, don't you think it's time you got over the fact that you failed to buy the club? ( thankfully) Again you bring to the party the poor results this year, well I have news for you Charlie, what happened prior to July this year has no bearing on what is happening now. Just so that you understand, not only do we have new owners, but a whole new philosophy in the way the club is run and the way we play football. It's being done the Earle's and Ashton way, not the Lenagan and Methven way. We will no doubt in time see an increase in the attendance figures, but this will take time. As you will no doubt understand losing customers is a lot easier than gaining them. After all in your time we lost nearly 2000 off the attendance figures, and of course the much loved 12th man fundraising group. The major gain so far has been the quality of football on offer and that will in time see both an increase on the gate and points on the board. now Charlie let's agree one thing, you are becoming a very bitter man whilst I'm a natural optimist when it comes to OUFC? njones, your misrepresentation and condemnation of Charlie regarding is thoughts and comments are completely out of sync, oh and extremely laughable.

So I'm going to play Devil's Advocate here, but:
After 9 games this season - 7 points, 9 goals After 9 games last season - 18 points, 19 goals
I know we're trying to see the big picture here. And we're thinking that we've played some lovely stuff this season, and been unlucky. Whereas at the same time last season, we thought we'd been a bit mediocre and rather fortunate. We all think there's much more promise for the future this year, because of the quality of our squad, and the quality of our football.
But frankly, I was much happier at this stage last season than I am this. And that isn't going to change until we start turning this attractive football into scoring more goals and some actual wins. Obviously last season went to hell in a handbasket, but for all the quality we're seeing, there's no guarantees that this season is going to take off like we all hope it will, and end much better. Potential is all well and good, but I want points. And I'm not going to be happy until we start to get wins on a regular basis, however nicely we play.
See y'all at Luton!

But some may say that hope can be hopeless, so let's hope! it's not the latter one!

My sentiments 100% precisely, Tony. But because they were expressed by me, Scotch Egg, 'N Jones' and his cohorts choose to represent this frankly obvious view as 'having an agenda', 'bitterness' and 'negativity'. What then happens is that various people wade in to point out to these nameless trolls - Ok, nameless troll; Scotch Egg is just on some pills that I would love to be able to afford - that they are traducing my position. I then re-state my position. And then they re-appear, sometimes two weeks later, sometimes under a different username, usually spewing personal abuse about my motives, my career, my historic work for OUFC etc. And yet it is still worth me re-stating my view, to those on here I know, because we need to wade through these people to have a reasoned debate. 1. I like and support Darryl Eales and Mark Ashton. I like Darryl Eales better than any owner I can remember (though I do recall Robin Herd being nice to me when I met him once!) 2. I especially like and support Michael Appleton. I've met him three brief times, and he is that much over-used term, a gentleman. He and Fazackerley, as we now see, are also excellent coaches. 3. I have been more entertained in 5 home games this season than in the previous two years in total under Wilder 4. The new management team have brought good players to the club: we haven't see the likes of Howard, Hoskins and Barnett in eons (Kitson was too aged to count) 5. The coaching team are clearly encouraging young players. Going to the youth team game today, as usual, it was really nice to watch it alongside Fazackerley, and to see Mapp encouraging the youngsters as they came off at half-time 6. Several of the things that Mark Ashton is doing I am especially supportive of. I shan't go into detail here, not because it's anything controversial, but because it concerns the YCT, which I am a trustee of and it is not for me to make things public, even good things! With the exception of this last point, I have made these points time and again, to the point of near embarrassment. But let me make it clear one more time: by any standards short of North Korea I am very, very supportive. However, that does not stop me being concerned at the current situation of the club I love. We are heavily indebted, 22nd in the basement of the FL, have a hideous stadium rental deal and are losing money hand over fist with a diminishing home audience. Put that way, what's not to like??? Are these problems the fault of the current ownership? Far from it. As I have said many, many times. Is it concerning? As Tony, Ricky, uptheuss and many others have continually asserted, like me, yes it is concerning. And is it worthy of discussion? In my view, if this forum is NOT to discuss these issues then what is the point of it? I'd love to say that this is the last time I have to say all this. But it won't be. In a week's time or so, you'll get the same sequence of events. Generally speaking, at some point, they will allude to an aged dispute between fans groups which makes the Life of Brian seem like a serious documentary.

After years of playing shit football, not enjoying games and becoming increasingly disenchanted with Oxford United whilst we failed to win promotion, I'm much happier watching exciting football, with exciting players and registering multiple attempts a game whilst failing to win promotion.
Whether or not its the right mentality to have, I've probably written off this season from a promotion perspective. I'm just happy to enjoy enjoying watching Oxford again, and willing to reserve complete judgement until the end of next season.

Yes we are behind versus the same stage last season. However the last 15 games for last season we only won 2 and drew 2, picking up 8 points out of 15 games. So yes would say we are making progress.

I would like to apologise for calling you a stroker last night. Sorry. Heat of the moment and all that... I do think you have a lot of good points, and most of them I do and have often agreed with. I just feel that we are in such infancy in terms of the new management, that I, much prefer to see the positives. I am fully aware of the negatives, the cold light of day that we've 7 points from 9 games. But the picture is wider than that, and this is probably where we differ - in terms of what we focus on. And I think comparing our first nine games with last season's first nine games is not comparing apples with apples. And as someone else pointed out, the end to last season was 2 wins out of 15 games. What I would say however, is that although I agree with large parts of what you write - you really need to from now on cut all loaded and personal jibes out of your posts, as this is what (for me) undermines your posts. I do like your passion. But I think at such an early and important stage in our clubs new chapter, that negative posting by key figures to do with OUFC, could have a derailing domino effect. And that is where I will always step in. We all clearly love our club, and I am not saying to stop raising concerns - I do that too. I just keep the personal poster to poster side out. Cheers Charlie, and see you at Luton.

I think that if u had to deal with the personal jibes that I have had to endure, over a period of many months now, you might not be quite as angelic as you would like me to be. Indeed, one of the things I find most frustrating is that the points that I make are not really addressed at all by this small minority of trolls. In turn, their trolling is picked up by otherwise decent posters as being somehow of merit just through repetition. I tell you what, OUFC Yellows, here's a deal. You step in every time that someone makes a personal attack on me, and I shall never respond in personal terms myself. Because, to be fair, your concern about 'personal' posting seems to date to be mostly focussed on those you disagree with. Whereas the N Jones of this world you seem quite comfortable with... Hackney Jack, no need to apologise. I even 'liked' that post!! See you at Luton!

People comparing this stage of the season with the same stage as last season need to remember that the club did most of the transfers early in the summer and had a full preseason which included the successful army trip.

I'm not here to defend u or anyone else I'm afraid I stopped wearing my underpants out side my trousers when I was 5 . But If I do see them personally abusing you I will comment in the same way as I did when u do. Some times like with boogaloo it takes the bigger man just to say enough is enough and break the cycle. I'm not siding with either side, but my cup half full positive view at the min does come up against some of ur comments, that's not cos I want an argument with u or don't respect that u probably look at a bigger picture than I do. At the min however I'm really enjoying my football again and I'll leave worrying about points and relegation till the point it's a problem. As of yet I have not seen a team we couldn't beat, and not many clubs will be in the position to improve come jan. Coyy

Hackney Jack, no need to apologise. I even 'liked' that post!! See you at Luton! Yes, when I was writing my post this morning I actually felt a certain amount of respect for Charlie giving some back... I respected Prescott for lamping that bloke that threw the egg at him. But that was a split second reaction. But where do we draw the line? Charlie is a key figure in United, like it or not. And although I have had various pops myself at Charlie, I do feel good that a real fan is in such close quarters with behind the scenes. And writing a heated post, can be taken in various ways, by various folk - so many variables hey with the written word and how it is reciprocated, in text form rather than spoken. I think we all need to remember this particular point a bit more. I think we all need to take a step back at times hey. And I for one certainly do not troll. But do pipe up when I feel I need to. *** All I ask for is that we really, ***genuinely***, give things more ***time*** and ***support***. But equally I appreciate that there are fans that see the points tally as the gauge - whereas I don't and want to look at the wider picture, such as us having a lot better players than the last few seasons, and a manager that excites me. Conjecture, yes, I'll admit that. But having seen various regimes (some up close) for 33 of my 40 years on the planet, I like to think I can form a reasoned train of thought. And when I feel that the club I love isn't getting the time and support it undoubtedly needs, that thenmakes me go on the defensive. The joys of the forum!!!

Well said Jack. I seem to remember a few years ago when you posted a somethingelsejack (Sheffield maybe?) we had a bit of a spat for some forgotten reason. We exchanged PMs, understood each other's position and buried the hatchet. I would always recommend making contact with an adversary; helps smoothe things out. These prolonged personal disagreements do get rather tiresome, particularly when all parties are clearly devoted Oxford fans.

Charlie makes some very good, valid points regarding OUFC. This can get lost though when he talks down to supporters in retaliation. I agree with Jack that it is great that there is someone on the forum so close to the club but at the same time don't patronise other posters for having a different opinion to yours.

So far this season we have played 12 league and cup matches. We have won 2, drawn four and lost seven. We have managed to score 9 league goals (3 of those were penalties and 6 came in two matches). Five of those league goals have come from one player, Hylton. We are currently third from bottom on goal difference only. The approach work is easy on the eye but the final ball and finish are crap. Apart from the first few games when new players were settling in I see no real improvement. The five unbeaten games look good on paper but they consisted of games we should have won if we could score goals and a win against Accrington which consisted of two gift goals and a 10 man opposition for a large part of the game. The lack of penetration against what was essentially a makeshift Stevenage side illustrates the point. At the moment if Hylton has an off day, as he did against Stevenage, then the best we can look forward to is a 0-0 draw.
The one hopeful thing is the play in the first two thirds of the pitch, which is a great improvement on the Wilder era, and if we can find another goal scorer then I would agree that matters would improve considerably.

I think on another day we would have won 1-0. Stevenage are just not gonna be beat 3 or 4 nil.
The progress we have made is our pressing and concentration in the last few weeks. We were switched on yesterday and we got the ball back so quickly which ensured our dominance.
I also think our decision making and variety is improving, which is surely down to coaching. I noticed that on a number of occasions we kept the ball like we do and once we had found a little space we tried something direct and fast, either through Barnett, or by switching play. Lastly I feel we are moving the ball quicker too, which gives us some really good situations and opportunities for overload.
I came away entertained, generally positive, a little frustrated that we couldn't score...but most importantly buzzing for the next game like days of old.

We exchanged PMs, understood each other's position and buried the hatchet. I would always recommend making contact with an adversary; helps smoothe things out. These prolonged personal disagreements do get rather tiresome, particularly when all parties are clearly devoted Oxford fans. This is all totally true. In the dim and distant past, I crossed swords with Myles Francis, Slappy and Ricky Otto. All are now mates of mine. But the nature of those interactions were essentially disputatious, not personal. Fundamentally, we disagreed on one massive issue to do with the club. Now, 15 years on, in truth I disagree very little with those who are abusing me (their agenda actually has little to do with what I say). I am definitely, but definitely glass half full. If anyone had ever told me that I would be as positive as this with OUFC third bottom of the FL, I'd never have believed it. I honestly believe that we will indeed haul ourselves out of he current predicament into mid-table come March (which is where we need to be to avoid a relegation battle). For any supporter to believe that we will improve our current position by 11 places or so is surely VERY glass half-full. But for some on here that optimism seems not to be enough. Glass half full still indicates a lack of 'real' positivity. You need to see an empty glass and believe it to be brimful of champagne to 'fit in'. Well, I'm sorry, but bollocks to that. Given the pre-season upheaval (an upheaval that was a decision, not a compulsory option, remember), I agree that Mapp will have done decently to get us into the top 10 come the end of the season. A play-off place would be a real good achievement. But even to get to 14th or so by Xmas, we need another 7 wins from our next 14 games, plus 3 draws and only 4 defeats (that would give us 31 pts after 23 games). That is no mean challenge, and we should not be arrogant enough to assume that because we are excited by some of the approach play that other sides are going to make things easy for us (as Accy did). As Exeter have already proved to us - with a transfer embargo, best players leaving and a 700k budget, now THAT is upheaval - there don't look like being many pushovers this year.

So, we've scored 11 (ELEVEN)goals in the last three games, but I'm sick of Wilder's negative tactics...wish I could be at the Kassam to watch Mapp and his total football...after all, It's not the result that counts...It's exciting footie that we want!!! Nobody cares.
