I thought I would start this one. Here in KL I will be getting up at 6am Sunday morning to watch this one.
Head says we will play well but lose 2-1 Heart hopes we surprise everyone, play well and win 2-0.
I don't know what to make of the England squad this time. Seems a good mix of youth and experienced players. We could surprise like Germany did last time and the young players could make the world sit up and take notice of them. Here in Asia appears England haven't got so much pressure on them this time with the feeling we won't do well, is that the same in the UK or the usual press waiting to rip us apart? Also some of the players appear to be coming into the WC in form and on the back of a good season. And doesn't appear to be any big heads in the squad that would rather be on a beach in Marbella instead, Rooney seems very focused.

Lightweight! It kicks off here in Jomtien, Thailand at 5a.m.
Like you head v heart. The Italians are only just below the Germans in my dislike league. Head 1 : 2 heart 3 : 0
Are you getting many power outages? We are on a couple a week (lightening strikes) so sod's law says I won't be able to see the match anyway!

Being an early riser, I'd find it much easier to watch a game at 5 or 6 o'clock in the morning than at 11 o'clock at night, especially after a curry and a couple of pints of Cobra in Histon - which is what my son-in-law and I have got planned.
I'm hoping that he'll ensure that I stay awake.
No power outages here in East Cambridgeshire, mermaid. Good luck!

We get quite a few thunderstorms here but not in the last week or so, so should be fine. However when we have heavy rain we lose the signal as broadcasts are over satellite. Looked for a new top today, some of the England tops are shit quality but found a nice Nike red England t shirt which will wear with pride. Have fun in Thailand!

Does anyone know if any pub in Oxford will be staying open late to show the match?

Does anyone know if any pub in Oxford will be staying open late to show the match? Am sure many pubs if haven't got extended licences will do a lock in for regulars. Over here, they have "coffee" shops, mainly run by Indians where all the locals gather in front of a big screen to watch it. Surprisingly enough England will be the most supported country here in Malaysia

The pubs have been given the licence to stay open until 1am for the England game.

i think Italy will win 2-0
we have some good players but our game strategy is rubbish. we dont have the players to play like Barcelona, but we have the players to play like Liverpool. play to your strengths.
i dont like saying it but we'll get knocked out in the group stages/first knock out phase and RH will get sacked

0-0 draw.
A combination of both sides being desperate not to lose their first game in a tough group, and the merciless soul-sapping heat in Manaus, will lead to both teams being hyper-conservative.

I would love to see Stirling start but fear that Roy will start with Lallana and Wellbeck
Thoughts on the team?

Lallana to start I hope, Milner leave him out of the team Sturridge and I have to say Rooney. Concerned about Johnson.

i hope he starts stirling and henderson. just think the liverpool connection is a good option. By the sounds of it Stirling has done enough in training to warrant a start. 2am kick off here. All the bars and hotels are staying open.

Buffon is ruled out of tonight but they have a very good replacement in Sirigu. They're first choice left back is injured as well.

I'd start with Jones at right back - probably the most disciplined defender we have. Doesn't offer Johnson's drive going forward but defensively he's much sounder. If I'm being honest I would drop Rooney and play Sturridge flanked by Welbeck and Sterling. That decision is based on current and recent form, on form Rooney is a cert but I feel Hodgson will pick the team on reputation rather than form. I'd play a midfield three with Gerrrard and Henderson holding and Lallana roving around in central areas between midfield and attack.

I've been concerned about our right backs for a long time - not convinced with either Johnson or Walker. I'd be inclined to go with Jones as well, of those we have there. One thing that occured to me a few weeks back, was whether either Baines or Cole have ever played on the right and/or whether either could have moved over to that side and done a better job there?

Jones has looked pretty weak for Man Utd this season and has found himself out of position at crucial times. Although Johnson is the weakest of the back 4 he hasn't made too many mistakes for England or Liverpool this season.
But it is a very attacking line up with Rooney, Sturridge, Welbeck and Sterling playing around Gerrard and Henderson. Not convinced on Welbeck and Rooney needs a good game early to banish some of his demons.
Convinced we will get at least a point but my money is on one nil with Sturridge scoring!

We are too slack at set pieces. Twice Italy have created great chances when we switched off. Rooney needs to do a better job defensively. He's switched off too many times. It's too easy.
But. 1-1, chances have been created and we don't look out matched.

A good game overall. Too decent sides with varying styles and fun to watch.
Hodgson needs a private word with Rooney about his duties. Yes - he wants to be an all out attacking player but against a side like Italy, defence is even more important. The left side does need patching up and Rooney needs to help out.
Hope our physio is ok. Have to say I've never seen a phyio stretchered off before!

Agreed. We are looking good overall. However we are being exposed on the right side, Rooney needs to track back and provide support.
