Appreciated Matt. After speaking with Sarge I understand the work you've put into this and the effort it's taken what with gathering data from LW as well.
Look forward to the results.

I've finally finished the analysis. Sorry this got put on the back burner for OxVox with everything that happened at OUFC over the summer, and then various work and personal things getting in the way. Anyway, the results and analysis are here. Interested to hear what others think. Thanks to everyone who took part, and particularly those who helped out with suggestions, designing the survey, and looking at the results (Sarge and Paul Cannell on here). Cheers, Matt.

To those that want the Priory back, to those that object to the rip off that is the Manor bar, may I make a suggestion? Grab your cans and get together outside the priory whilst the weather is still good. Meet your mates, have a chat, a few drinks and make it as close to the 'Priory experience' as we can. But take your litter with you when you leave, put it in the bins around the ground and let Ka$$am dispose of it.

I have been a supporter of the 12th Man/Manor bar - sure it was no Priory, but the beer and lager was cheaper than the pubs in my immediate vicinity and at £3.50 a bottle, London Pride was my choice of pre-match refreshments and the legends are entertaining.
However, prior to the Dagenham game, I was told that they were no longer selling bottled beer, so I was forced to downgrade to the keg beer - not my normal second choice (draught Guinness), but acceptable at £3.50, although I could only face the one.
Last night, we find the tap prices have increased to £3.90, so the cheaper than the pub factor has gone, but on the bright side, Sharps Doombar is now available in bottles - but at £4.80! Even if all the increase goes to the club, I would flinch at paying that.
Now I fear I will be one of those lonely souls sitting in their car until 2:45 this Saturday. Maybe the hotel is cheaper?

Sadly, my motor does not have a built-in bar, nor does my daughter's who usually conveys us to the game.
Just seems sad that we would happily have paid 4 x £3.50 for pre-match drinks, of which £x would have benefited the club, but we are not going to cough up 4 x £4.80 even if £x + the extra £5.20 is the revised club share.
So now we'll wait, dry and sober, in the car until near kick off.
Matchday experience, you can't beat it.

Come to the 'Bird.
Eric Read is giving a talk entitled "Sex and death in Byron's Don Juan" starting at 2.00pm as part of the Bird's regular 'literary chats' events. Unfortunately you missed a bravura performance on Tuesday when Charlie Methven made a spirited defense of J.H. Prynne in "Obscurantism vs Orthodoxy, decoding the modern world" without completely convincing the audience - at least one of the barmaids was adamant that Methven failed to proved his case that Prynne's use of scientific metaphor was "any more than a conjuror's cloak of obfuscation".

As tempting as you have made it, more importantly, do they have any real ciders on offer?

I'm afraid you're a little behind the times Paul. The subject of my literary chat has now been changed. I shall now be in the front parlour, next to the inglenook, rather than the snug as is usual. Also the subject matter has had to be changed. I shall now be discussing Hubert Selby Junior's atmospheric novel Last Exit to Brooklyn, and paying particular attention to some of the more graphic homoerotic details therein. Apologies for any inconvenience caused, but the landlord of the Bird said that it would have been the third Byron synopsis this month and the regulars had threatened to debunk en masse to afternoon tea at the Randolph if I didn't come up with something a little more stimulating.

I'm sorry I missed it but Maurice Earp was presenting his latest paper on 'Juan-Carlos Onetti - Alan Warner - separated at birth?' in the Bullnose and (as a great fan of Onetti) I couldn't resist. Maurice was, as usual, superb. Well worth the price of admission.

That said, it went rather well, although there was a minor disagreement between two of the audience when it came to my after speech quiz, and who won the first prize of a signed copy of my latest tome "James Baldwin, the Milton Keynes years". It was all settled by a duel at dawn though. They're a lively bunch of rascals at the Bird!

Did Maurice have his sidekick 'spit the dog' with him? Bring back Tiswas. Speaking of Compost Corner, I was surprised to find the Bullnose has a farmers' market now. I must say the quince-fed Guinea Fowl looked worth a try, but I ended up buying a couple of line-caught Bonito that the landlord had had flown in for the evening diners; a steal at only £7.25 per fish and pretty decent on the menu at only £15.95 roasted on a bed of tahini and scorzonera with the price including pommes dauphinoise and petit pois a la Vendéenne. You can see now why the Priory failed, I'm sorry to say.

I see your point, but it cannot be denied that The Priory's 'Hamburguesa con queso asado a la parilla con las cebollas' and 'Perro caliente con salsa de tomate' (all prepared by a Michelin sized chef) were always a popular choice and at their best when accompanied by a glass or three of Black Dragon and a bag of pork scratchings.

Back to serious Priory-related stuff. No change in status. Item 2 above is pending review while the renewal of the hotel consent is withdrawn. I did mail EH and got no reply. I'll try again tomorrow. I'm off on Thursday for 3 weeks - I guess the next step is to try to find a local councillor (I don't live under OCC so I would welcome suggestions) and, if I've heard nothing when I get back I'll start getting touch with them and the Oxford Mail with some of the old pictures and some new ones, since I doubt the state of the building has improved. Perhaps the survey result (memo to self). Can't help feeling I should have been more active on this. Any ideas will be welcome

I've not waded through all 11 pages of this thread so apologies if this point has been covered already.
Has anyone made a Freedom of Information request to Oxford City Council asking for copies of correspondence between OCC and FK/Firoka since the Priory closed? It would be interesting to see if OCC have been proactive in pursuing FK regarding maintaining the building or not.
