Interesting, why? Yes it would have been a good gesture by the club to reduce ticket prices, but at then end of the day there not there just to lose money. So what if Huddersfield have reduced their ticket prices, for Christ sake they're playing a team two divisions lower.

Thanks to the Clubs lack of forethought & intrangiance on the pricing issue I would be suprised if the crowd breaks 3k so they will make a loss straight off. Setting the price at £10 would push that nearer 4.5-5k.......better atmosphere, more goodwill, happier supporters and less of a loss or even a tiny profit.
Its not brain surgery really.

Ah but you have made a big assumption there. I think that with £10 a ticket the crowd would not have been much higher. Maybe 3,800. I really can't see us getting near to 4.5-5K on a Wednesday night. So based on that the decision is not that simple. Who knows who is right, but to suggest that 'it is not brain surgery' based on what I think is very optimistic numbers is not right.

I am more concerned about the fact that half our fan base can't be arsed to turn up for the FA Cup 3rd round at normal prices, rather than the ticketing policy of the club. It is easy to get carried away by how great our fans are when 3k go to pompey or we get 10k in the conference, but if the crowd is 5k or lower tonight I will be embarrassed for us fans, not for the club.
Great fans turn out to support the club through thick and thin, regardless of who the opponents, players, managers or owners are.
(I'll take cover …)

Getting the pricing right for this game is in fact quite a tricky commercial decision. To say the club is commercially 'brain dead' re the pricing is er.. pretty brain dead in itself. We already had a discounted ticket arrangement for the Gateshead game. Charlton are two leagues higher than us. Would the club generate more money if it was £10 per head ? I really doubt it. Personally having seen the first game I'm surprised that there is such a lot of apathy towards this match. You can almost guarantee tonight will be a better spectacle than the Wycombe game. And then there are the moaners imploring Lenagan to put his hand in his pocket to buy that top striker. Well, a decent crowd tonight would help with that objective. But of course we all want the moon on a stick. COYY

Great fans buy Season Tickets......as I have done every year since 1980 irrespective of where I choose to live. A great Club would have a degree of consideration for those fans especially with the quality of home displays of late. Unfortunately the one thing that matters to a Club (the fanbase) have been completely ignored in this case. Quoting Gateshead as an example of "generosity" is certainly not hitting the mark.....as reflected by the attendance. Had OUFC tried it for this game they would have gained good publicity, more goodwill and a better crowd......instead they chose to rinse the hardcore for as much as possible. Very poor commercial decision.

Very poor commercial decision. Not sure about the 'great fans' quote, what if some fans simply cannot afford a season ticket- as much as they would perhaps like one, does this mean they cannot be 'great fans' too? I buy my Season ticket based on my financial situation and if I think the previous season has been vfm and therefore warrants splashing out. Which probably means I can never be in the 'great fan' category, but there you are. I like to think I have contributed something during around five decades of supporting the Club though. There seems to be little consideration of the support by oufc, this time of year many are still waiting for a first wage packet after the excesses of Christmas, the home performances in the main have been dire, and Charlton are hardly a big draw. So i'm in agreement with you on this score!

Tonight's crowd wont be big regardless of the ticket price. They maybe a championship club, but they are Charlton not Leeds, Nottingham Forest or Derby who may have brought a bigger crowd, and they are further away. Its a cold Tuesday night People have work tomorrow night, possibly think this is an easy game for Charlton, even though we came close to winning, so they will be thinking is it worth it, whether its £10 or full price or not.

Absolutely correct. However on the flip side of that, despite the dross that has (sometimes) been served up at home this season, and the argument about the cost of the tickets - it's a football match involving my team, in the 3rd Round of the FA Cup - what reason is there not to go!!

Those saying it would have made no difference to the numbers regardless of price we will never know BUT what about current fans, those that are floaters and importantly NEW supporters what message are the club giving to them? Current fans we want as much we can get today, floaters this is the price take it or leave it, Potential New support well they just haven't been considered.. Why wont somebody answer my previous question if Charlton (a championship side) are considered such an attraction why close the North Stand when surely all available seats will be needed.
Why not at least try and entice as many people as possible to attend for the LONG TERM GAIN Rather than grab what you can today is that not short sighted?

I really do not understand all this !!! Time and time again IL is told to invest in more players and demonstrate that he wants to get us out of this league. Yet there is a massive uproar when ticket prices are not reduced as a sign of goodwill... This is our football club, but it is also a business, not a sodding charity. The general consensus appears to be that Charlton is not a particularly attractive fixture and our football at home is shit, and so I fail to see how reducing prices would make a significant difference to the size of the crowd. Yes it would be bigger, but how much bigger?? Certainly not enough to cover the discounted ticket price I should imagine. Let us suppose that this draw was more attractive and the next round draw was not Huddersfield away but a big PL club at home, and tonight was a voucher game for a next round ticket. The chances are there would be a bigger crowd and no whinging about ticket prices.... But why though??? We are OXFORD supporters are we not? The mere suggestion that people would be prepared to pay more to see a bigger club/better fixture stinks of wanting to see the opposition rather than our own team FFs. ARE We or ARE WE NOT OXFORD UNITED supporters !!!!!!!!! Are we not UNITED??? I am really looking forward to tonight's game and anyone who can't be arsed to make it for reasons of the opposition on show or as a general protest at pricing.... We'll I guess that is your prerogative but please don't criticise any future lack of investment by IL. If you don't want to pay, why the f*ck should he invest?? And let's be honest, people will always find some funds from somewhere if this was a glory fixture.

Very poor commercial decision. I have a season ticket. I like to think I am great and more important than plenty of others who decide for whatever reason not to buy one. In fact, in the cold light of day I am no better fan or supporter for having expensed in a season ticket. In fact, I buy a season ticket for three main reasons. One I like to show my support to the club over the summer when invariably they have made some half decent signings. Second it helps me to purchase tickets for priority games and first dibs on away fixtures. Thirdly and actually the most relevant, it is far cheaper for me to do that, than pay for each home game on a match by match basis. I am grateful of the money I save as a result. Others claim that I am short-changing the club whereas they pay far higher unit ticket costs - they are factually correct. We all know you are p***ed off that the club haven't subsidised your ticket. I am of the view I have benefited from my season ticket and its about time I paid the going rate for a cup game. I was delighted to only pay £10.00 for the other home cup game. Your comment about the club being brain-dead is just you lashing out because you have the hump over it. Lastly, 1) there will be more than 3000 who turn up tonight and 2) we look forward to the moaning and jibes (and they have started) about Huddersfield setting their prices at £10 also. It's boring.

Obviously others disagree, if you dont like it dont read it. Your arrogance is baffling at times, a thread has run its course when people stop posting on it. FWIW i think its impossible to say if its a good decision or not to keep prices the same. X at full price v Y at reduced price + extra bar/food/programme takings etc + possible return of lost custom if result/performance is good. If the home performances this season had been good would this thread be 7 pages long with moaning? No would be my guess, people dont want to witness the dross thats being dished up and certainly dont want to pay top dollar to watch it. The price v entertainment value is a good excuse not to go and I wont be going!

Apologies to Lord Slappy I thought forums were for debate & exchange of views, and I can`t remember you being put in charge?
Goodwill to the customers is my particular bone of contention....something the Club seem to be lacking in.
The above post by Barmyarmy summarises it well....... return of "lost" customers, increased sales of programmes etc, etc, etc.
As stated previously the Clubs attitude is rinse them for as much as we can get away with..... Charlton.. £10.....Huddersfield..£10.... what makes us any different except greed??

We are different because we are a League 2 Club and Charlton/Huddersfield are Championship! They therefore see it fit to reduce their prices for lower class opposition. Conversely, we could possibly increase our prices for higher class opposition but, on this occasion, we have not taken this step.

Its not lost....... the club will lose money at full price and a sub 3,600 crowd...as earlier in the thread.
Reducing the ticket price to £10 with decent opposition would increase the numbers through the gate, increase the goodwill etc etc. and may even make a profit.
Hope we win and get a little jaunt to Huddersfield at £10. I`ll be there !

That's my point.. On the one hand you call it greed then on the other hand you suggest a reduced ticket price will generate more profit?
Greed suggests maximising profits out of a given situation and so in your scenario how can it be a decision driven by greed?
You may think it is a bad decision/wrong decision but it's not greed.

I presume nobody on here who thinks we should pay full price to keep the club happy got their season ticket at a reduced price early in the summer, then? Of course this is an own-goal by the club. Look at all the messages protesting! (And shut up, Slappy).

Look at all the messages protesting! (And shut up, Slappy). But that's the clubs decision based on the value of having cash flow to see them through the closed season and plan ahead with budgets etc.. Cash is King. If the Charlton game was discounted, would I have paid full price anyway? No It the early bird discount is taken away next year, will I refrain from buying another season ticket? No I am also likely to miss 3-4 home games a season through other commitments and so you can also argue that the match by match cost levels out anyway.

HTFC vs CAFC...£10....HTFC vs OUFC...£10...... yet OUFC still don`t "get it" nor do they seem to want too. Chris Williams..... "Thanks for the feedback". Ian L..... similar. Opportunity missed. It will be interesting to see how many turn up tonight........ I hope its 3,600 + but doubt it.
