So there has been a bit of talk on the forum about the North Stand and in particular moving home fans closer to the centre.
As it has progressed there has been a bit of talk about moving the away lot to the East Stand by a couple of people. Now I remember when talking about "Bring the noise" there was a bit of objection about season ticket holders moving to accomodate singing in the centre but thought why not have a bit of a poll and see what people think.
A bit of fun so to speak as I am counting the clock down to finishing work.
Now I can see both positives and negatives, positives being away fans closer to home fans, East Stand fans better view and joining with tne North for louder atmosphere perhaps.
Negatives perhaps the "Sucking the ball into the net" talk etc and having to pay more for our season ticket, the possibility of it killing what atmosphere there is.
Anyway I thought I would ask the question and see what people think.

Human nature is that people like their little comfort zones. After ten years any move will upset too many people so forget it. The problem will soon be sorted when we are in the Championhip with capacity crowds week in, week out and a shiny new West Stand.

Whack them in the corner of the north stand where our lot are currently.. then have our fans where the away fans are.. but more central possibly
Might actually get the atmosphere going abit, and make it a more intimidating place to come

The traditional place in a ground for the more vocal home fans is behind the goal, at oufc and the majority of football clubs in the country.
The only time away fans should be behind one of the goals is when there is a stand at both ends... so when we have a safe standing terrace at the west end then away fans can have the east.

Not only would it improve the atmosphere but we'd also essentially have home fans at each end which can only be an advantage. No doubt the argument against this will be the usual nonesense of potential risk of trouble outside the stands but if trouble is going to happen it will happen regardless of where people sit IMO.

I voted other.
Put the away fans in the SSL fence end where the family bit is, out of the way and vision of the tunnel and move the families to the North Stand.

They do not represent all fans so need to be careful of making the sort of assumptions you have made above.

Scoob there is no way we can make everyone happy.
I think a majority would have to decide and if the rest stop going because of it they're stupid. Literally you're there to watch the football club you supposedly love. If not sitting gets in the way of it then I'd be shocked.

Where is the evidence that the majority of the East Stand are in favor of moving from the East Stand to a standing terrace. Just because a small group of fans have started up a campaign does not mean that they have any sort of majority. You may be right but I have seen no evidence to support that. Personally I am not sure if I want to stand or sit so it probably would not bother me too much either. By the time the West Stand is built I may not have a choice. However, apart from the central section of the East Stand the majority of fans seem happy to sit so they could be in the majority. I don't know either way but I am also pretty sure the people organising the campaign don't know either because it does not fit their agenda to find out. Of course there would be choice to move to the sides. However, the people who have chosen to sit in the East do so because they prefer the view from behind the goal so you could be disadvantaging the majority because a minority want standing. I reiterate that I do not know where the majority lies but I suggest that the club finds out before it makes any decisions.

I'm near the front of the East stand at present, so most of the time I am 'forced' to sit. Therefore, it doesn't follow that only those near the back, or those who stand at present (quite a number) are the only ones that prefer standing. I know quite a few around me who would prefer to stand all match. As for finding out what the mjority of supporters think to the safe standing issue at oufc, I think the re have been quite a few surveys carried out recently to see exactly how many are in favour of it, so once those results are made known (I hope they will be) then we can say one way or the other, rather than speculating either way, whatever agenda anyone has. Finally, those who do wish to remain in a seated area will be able to do so as the majority of the stadium available to home fans would still be seats... so they will still have plenty of choice unlike the non-existant choice for the pro-standers at present.

Disagree - that is one factor, but I'd say these are probably more important:- - where their mates are - better atmosphere - can swear, stand and sing without too much hassle - cheaper and perhaps most importantly the London Road was behind the goal and this is the nearest the club has got. It is good at the front to see action from right behind the goal, but surely the better view is at the half way line (or thereabouts )? Many other clubs price the middle blocks in a stand at a premium price. Also Bury and Port Vale in recent weeks, have had their more vocal fans in the corners, even though there is an away stand behind the goal.

Nope and I would certainly question the validity of a survey where participants have to seek it out. And I'd be very concerned about any such survey proclaiming that they had questioned the "majority of supporters" using such methods.

If that is the link I went to then the questions were well designed to get the answers they were looking for. I don't remember any questions along the lines of: If the West Stand is built as a standing area only would you be happy to be forced to move there or to the sides if you prefer seating? The questions I answered were purely focussed on having a standing area and did not mention anything about the consequences. I answered them in support of a standing area being made available in principle that is all. However your assumption earlier in this thread is that everyone will be happy to move from the East Stand but has this been established?

However, the people who have chosen to sit in the East do so because they prefer the view from behind the goal Does anyone actually prefer the view from there? I've always assumed that being behind the goal is purely an atmosphere thing...

If the atmosphere was electric in the east stand I'd never have even contemplated moving.
The view from an end isn't as good. You miss out on a hell of a lot but I miss that feeling of sucking the ball in the back of the net you get when you're in an end.
We've been in the north stand for the last 4 seasons now and I would only go back to an end view if and when we've got a safe standing terrace in the West stand.

Sorry Scoob I certainly don't think everyone should do as I want to do. That would be just as draconian as making everyone sit. We're campagning for the choice to be there. Presuming that the club would be able to build a safe standing terrace in the West stand - the exact mix of seats or safe standing in any future development of the West stand should broadly reflect the numbers of fans who would want to stand or sit there. That would demand a far more detailed and widespread professional survey of fans in the future. Even then it would be the club's choice on what they go ahead with and that has to be based on sound financial rationale as well as catering for the views of the fans.

I'd keep them where they are. IF we ever get this 4th stand, which i'm pretty sure wont be a terrace anyway. Lets have OUFC fans behind both goals. But have one side with unallocated seats.Don't know why fans would want away fans behind any goal tbf. We all know the atmosphere in Ox Mail is better when attacking it, we'd have it in both halfs.
No point in building 4th stand till we get 9k+ everyweek anyway

Does anyone actually prefer the view from there? I've always assumed that being behind the goal is purely an atmosphere thing... I do. Me too. I've tried the North Stand once and various parts of the South stand including very central positions in the Upper. However, I prefer the view from behind the goal and always have. I spent some years near the centre line in the Osler Road at the Manor because I got fed up of trying to watch the game from behind that bloody mesh but returned to the LR as soon as it was pulled down. Atmosphere is important but where I sit in the East Stand it is rarely the main reason to be there. The view from any standing area is likely to be worse than the view from the East Stand.

Thanks for getting what I was saying OTR. I have not had time to read all of the threads about the standing campaign but many of the posts I have read from certain individuals dismiss the views of people asking awkwards questions. I have no doubt that the current leadership at OUFC will not allow anything to go ahead that does not make commercial sense. I will continue to support safe standing but ask that, in respect to our ground, that proper consultation is take regards where elements of our fan base wish to locate themselves.
