I'll add a few general details on the survey as a couple of posters on here have raised questions & concerns about it and our bias and agenda clouding the study.
Never have we stated we represent a majority view - but we believed more fans are interested in standing at games than currently do. We wanted to get an indication of how many fans would prefer a safe alternative to seating.
Our agenda is do what we can to change legislation relating to standing at football and to raise safe standing to the club as an alternative to just seating in the event of the club being able to develop the West stand.
It is all about believing fans should have the choice to watch football safely in the way they prefer. We believe a mix of standing and seating at grounds improves the matchday experience for everyone.
The whole point of the surveys was to see what a sample of Oxford fans' feelings were towards safe standing. Somewhere between 450-600 Oxford fans were consulted. We don't have the exact figures as yet.
We'd love to have had the resources (time, personnel and money) to conduct a fuller study but that wasn't to be - part of the many reasons we decided to take the opportunity given us by Kelvin to give the survey opportunity to the Oxford Brookes students.
Kelvin & ourselves were given brief presentations from the students on April 7th so we have a flavour of the results and were happy with the enthusiasm, application and general findings of the surveys but we won't be getting the fuller collated details from the staff until after Easter.
We'll post these up as and when we recieve them.
The surveys aren't the be all and end all. Nor should they be viewed as such but they do offer an indication of what those fans polled feel about safe standing. Another of the reasons to go with the Brookes surveys was to reduce accusations of bias that may be (and on here has been) levelled at us.
The surveys were devised, conducted & collated by the students themselves. We gave their staff some background details but our involvement after that has really been restricted to the Q&A sessions at the initial briefing on March 10th, liasing with the staff in organisational matters & finding some volunteers for the focus groups before Crewe and Burton home games.
There were many pros and cons to doing the survey ourselves or allowing Oxford Brookes students the opportunity to do theirs. One of the pros by giving the survey to the students was to hopefully reduce bias.
The survey process has been a worthwhile exercise and all parties (club, Oxford Brookes and ourselves) have gained some benefit from it.
Again, we'll post the survey results up when we get them. I hope that's cleared a few of the issues up.
