Just spotted this, should be of particular interest to all of us and specifically JL if he's planning on starting something 'official'. It's quite interesting to see that much of what they're doing here is stuff we've already called for i.e. the designation of a specific block for singers: www.the1881.com/This is interesting, and good to see fans of other clubs doing something like this. We are working on things of our own and listening to ideas, and hope to make a difference next season.

For those wishing to talk about the match day experience and atmosphere, ahead of the new season, this thread has been moved into the Yellow Army section so all of us can talk about it, and plan how to make things better.
We are already working on a number of things.

It's no secret. The idea is to have more flags and banners in the stadium. As we don't own the stadium, this isn't as easy as it could be. So we are working with the club, who are talking to the stadium company. We don't want to announce anything, if it turns out it can't happen. So I'd say there are a number of things we are working on, and will announce things when we can.
I have been talking to a number of fans over the last few months, to find ways to improve things. It's not easy when obstacles are put in your way, but we are trying to improve things for the match day experience and atmosphere, and will continue to do so. Things from pre match music, to improving the relationship between fans and players, are some of the things that have been discussed.
Any fan can get involved, or suggest ideas or give opinions. Send us an email and we will do our best to listen and involve any supporter. Every Oxford fan is in the Yellow Army.
Last season was poor, in every area. But we hope to be able to change things to make things better. I can promise you we are doing our best, and will announce things as soon as there is progress.
Home games will have a very different feel next season. The club have been working on this, and we have been involved in that. We as fans will continue to have our say, and we will play a big part in things in the future with the match day experience.

Good work JL, Trevor et al.
It might be interesting to have progress reports on everything you've TRIED to do along the way. For example, if you've attempted to get permanent banners up but Firoka have said "no", let us know on here. You probably won't win every battle, but it's important everyone appreciates the effort being put in, successful or not.

That is what we will do YH. I will always communicate with fans in the things we do, once it is possible to do so. That will include efforts that have failed.

We need better songs to sing. Ours are boring and simple. I mean we need a 'club song' something the fans can sing during the game.

That's rubbish, our songs are as good as most other clubs, and you can't just come up with a 'club song' the point of a club song is that it has history and meaning.

Don't you think that that's unfair? You go on about trying to work with and harbor closer relationships with the club yet in one sentence seem to undermine the sterling work done by the matchday staff many of whom are volunteers. The music is as good as any club, the programme has won awards including the best programme in league 2 last year and the coverage on match day is above anything in our league and above. So please explain in what areas are very poor? I'm genuinely intrigued? Food and drink, nothing do with the club. Atmosphere? Well surely that comes from the fans?

Wrong choice of words. Of course you are right, there was some excellent work done by some, during a difficult time last season. A number of areas are already good, and they will be built on. We have some great people working within our club, and on the outside to, including volunteers.
My point was, that things felt pretty rubbish last season, and that is going to change. There was no marketing last season, a poor atmosphere, a feeling of apathy. Those are the areas that I feel were poor. But both the fans and the club are working at putting that right.
I apologise for coming across wrong.

Get used to it JL.
Those that stick their heads heads above the parapet and try to do something for the club are all too often criticised for minutiae when it's clear to reasonable people that the intention is one of positivity. One only has to look at OxVox. Some appalling criticism has been levelled at them over the years, some of it horribly personal.
You'll never please everyone. My advice: don't even try to.
Good luck with the efforts this year, it's certainly appreciated by the vast majority.

Speaking from experience I can assure you that unfortunately the 'stick' has got worse in the last 4-6 months, have a look at the OxVox forum and from individuals such as Fred, Mario, Gary and then a few people who got banned from this site - Ken. (I can't wait till my post is re-quoted on our forum!). It appears though that with great regret they got banned for having multi-accounts and trolling. Joe is probably already wondering what he has let himself in for, but I will say having met Joe and listened to his plans with the Ultra movemenet, these people are seriously going to improve the atmosphere in the stands. They will be very successful. Even Dave Langan got some stick - forum.oxvox.org.uk/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=1058Joe is certainly very focused and dedicated to make this Yellow Army work and I am sure he will with the help of everyone who wants to be involved.

From my perspective, i'm struggling to think of where last season it was not poor, very few matches imho produced 'decent Football' -and I note you put the onus on fans for creating an atmosphere, to me it's 50/50 between the team and fans, and in most cases the team failed to do its bit. You claim JL was being critical of match day staff, wrongly, still if it strengthens your argument eh? You seem to be happy with most or every thing, I suggest you're in the minority then, why do you think the Club are working hard on and off the pitch to improve- because imo they realised they had to after the results of their survey.

Seriously. No I don't think all is well, but yes I did object to the inference that things were poor in all areas as they are not. I agree that it's 50/50, but I'm struggling to see how OxVox can influence any thing on the pitch apart from the fund to be spent in January. I'm also unsure what OxVox can actually do. We had the announcement about the banners and logos but that has gone quiet. It all sounds like lip service from Firoka to me.

JL, is part of the yellow army fund given to the ultras for their displays? or is there any fund for the ultras at match days?

As part of my role in the Yellow Army, I will liase with the Ultras, to organise displays, and to give them the help they need. I will also work with other fans, and bring everyone together.
I think a small part of the Yellow Army fund, will go towards match day projects. Things like displays, new banners, and anything else to improve things. This is important, as we want Oxford United matches to be full of noise and colour.

I think one of the most important things to creating a great atmosphere next season will also be the introduction of new songs or re-introduction of old ones. Especially long-lasting songs, as often we seem to get everyone going for a couple of songs but they are too short! Like others have said there were a couple of ones at Dagenham away that suited this perfectly- the 'making all the noise for the oxford boys' was good, and singing One Step Beyond was also good

We have a flag from 1986 at home (I will be bringing it to home games this season), it's only been out 2 or 3 times since that special day 27 years ago! (Wish I was born in time to see it, 7 years too late!). Above the Ox head it has the words "Here we go, here we go, here we go" written. This chant was huge back in the day, so why can't we get this going again? Some of us have tried before at Aldershot, but not many joined in. At 0:50 you can hear us singing it!

She Fell Over You're going home in the back of an ambulance C'mon, c'mon, c'mon etc (to Gary Glitter song - perhaps understandably dropped!) You're s**t and you know you are Who ate all the pies How wide do you want the goal Plus I don't think we sing ST is falling down/build it p with Y&B half as much as we once did.

I seem to recall the first time I heard the 'Your're shit - aaaarrgghhh' with aarrggh going on for ages was during our league cup replay against Man Yoo at Old Trafford in Dec 83. I think the Man Yoo fans started it and we duly nicked it during the game.
The London Road then adopted this (with added gusto!) in our next home game at the manor.
