Brown, Kamara, Evans, Tafazoli, McGinty, Chapman, Kalala, Jones, Powell, Marsh, Craddock Oxford Mail OUFC @oxfordmailoufc A few unfamiliar names in there for #oufc. Aaron Jones (Ipswich), JP Kalala (Southend), Michael Kamara (Staines) & Lemar Powell (B Rovers). Powell - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lamar_PowellKalala - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jean-Paul_KalalaJones - seems to have been released Ipswich before getting a pro-contract. Can't find anything about Kamara. Interesting that Evans is back. And also that Tafazoli has now featured in all of our pre-season squads but is apparently not going to be signed. Chapman and Craddock must be seen as the ones who need the most match fitness.

Curious that Evans has come back. Maybe there has been a change of plan regarding the signing of a triallist. Or maybe he was just available to play tonight.

Are the Yellows being a bit guilty of misrepresentation?,I thought I read on some posts the other day that we couldn't afford to take on the triallists, what has changed I thought Tafazoli played at eastleigh to put himself in the window, yet tonight we have another load of them.

Well Wilder has made it clear that he wasn't going to risk too many first team players. Bringing in trialists gives him the opportunity to do that. A chance for them to get a game of football and impress potential watching clubs as well as our own management. Many free agents are more than happy just to get a run out at this time of the season.

how does wilder expect the players to be match fit come Tuesday at best our first team players have had 60 mins of action in 2 weeks hardly great preparation for the start of the new season.

Wilder had said repeatedly he wouldn't be risking too many first team players in case they picked up needless injuries. I thought he could have given some of them 45 minutes rather than nothing at all though.

Sad really. A perfectly legitimate criticism and you have to play silly buggers in reply. Why? I feel most players have had enough game time in pre season to get match fit and in many ways the Bournemouth game will be another game before the start of the season to ensure all players are up to full match fitness. If the first team players all played this week then they would have played to many games before the Bournemouth game.

The Club can't win can they. We have injuries so we don't risk more by resting the first teamers - 'they haven't had enough game time.' If we'd played them in every match and got even one injury they'd have been 'playing too much and why wasn't clueless Wilder resting them!?'

How about players getting used to the system CW wants to use, how about new players "bedding in" because that will be one excuse rolled out in we don't start winning. I can't see the point of playing all these trialists in varying positions knowing they are not going to get signed. I hope we get off to a winning start in the league, because these friendlies look like a complete shambles, no set play or formations, nothing to inspire to the season ahead. I hope our squad is not as thread bare we have to protect players this early, we better pray that this sports science comes up with the goods...

Was the Craddock penalty the ball that has finally come back down from orbit from the penalty he missed last season?
You play first teamers, they get injured and the manager is called an arrogant fool so near to the season. You don't play the first team, the general part of the play looks awful, it's the managers fault.
I'm surprised that some people aren't saying that this caution with players is the good work of the fitness staff rather than the perpetually negative Wilder being cautious. You see what want to see I guess.

In an ideal world you'd want to try and get your newer players used to the formation and the rest of the team but this isn't an ideal world is it. Several players are crocked with seemingly long term injuries so CW has opted to husband his remaining first-teamers. IMO that's the right decision and as I said above had Wilder gone the opposite way and somebody had picked up an injury there'd have been uproar on here from precisely the same set of people who are accusing Wilder of not playing people enough. Personally i'd rather a squad which is a bit rusty for the first 10 or so games, but then gels than a team which only starts to gel at Christmas because half its members got injured in pre-season and couldn't play.

That's your opinion, every game is a chance to win 3 points, that is important from the first to last game, a season lasts 46 games and what's to say you don't pick up a injury to an important player around Xmas, you have no points in the bag to give you a safety buffer, every game is a must win game if we are to taste success again.

Bit of a fight between ocfc player(s) and chappers/ML at half time. Something to do with a tackle on Adam which I must have completely missed. Anyone else see it?? Was it that bad? Also Chappers looked particularly un-fit compared to everyone else tonight I thought. Craddock playing 90 I presume means he won't start against Bournemouth. And I don't think Wilder would ever risk his first team against City after that game a couple of years ago when we were chopped and hacked by them. Pretty sure after the game he said something along the lines of 'If that happens again we will stop our annual pre-season meeting with ocfc'??

But if half the first team gets injured in pre-season because you failed to husband your resources then you still won't have a safety buffer will you! Id rather see a situation in which we start slowly due to rustiness and build momentum rather than risk not starting at all by going too hard in pre-season in the hopes that we might race out of the blocks.

We aint interested in any of the trialists, how can we be if the manager wasn't at the game again? And wasn't at Eastleigh, so has no idea how they played. I find the games pointless if we're going to play a bunch of strangers who are never going to play for the club. We couldn't use the youth teamers as they start their league today.
I agree that playing an hour last week and then not again for 10 days before the Bournemouth game is enough. Surely it wouldn't of done any harm playing 45 mins on Tues and 45 mins last night.
Agree Chappers looks unfit, did he have a coach with him the 10days the rest of squad were in the US? he was awful on Tues too.

I understand your point but at the moment half the first team defence and midfield are injured! The other half either have played next to no football, on a plastic pitch or with a bunch of strangers. The whole point of pre season games is to get players fit, to gel, work on formations etc and be ready for the season ahead. If players dont play because the manager doesnt want them to get injured whats the point of having a preseason? We are playing teams full of trialists we cant sign and it appears he isnt even going to the games (valid excuse v Eastleigh). We (he) needs to hit the ground running this season and I just dont think we will be ready. Just hope I am wrong.

Couldnt we just play less pre season games rather than go through the hassle of having to get trialists in to make the numbers up? £11 was steep for the team we put out last night, I left by half time.
Have we always played so many pre season games? Seems to have gone up in number, not sure a few behind closed doors games wouldnt be of more value, the results dont get taken seriously and you dont get players getting carried away and injuring each other.

I thought Chapman looked unfit last season but I put that down to not having a pre-season under his belt. If any player wants to get into the first team, they can't afford to carry any timber.
