Has now served his ban.
I have only seen the Rotherham out of the games that he missed and felt that we would have benefitted from him playing in that game.
In a recent RO interview he said that he was struggling with a couple of knocks that could not heal due to the amount of football he was playing. Hopefully the enforced rest will mean that he comes back fresh and better than before his break. He was one of our better players in the recent game up until then so could make a difference.

Bring him straight back in IMO, better player than Purkiss and gives us more of an outlet on the right

Looking forward to having him back in the team, much better player than Purkiss imo, and offers a lot more down the right hand side.
Purkiss is a good player to have around as cover for Batt, but shouldn't start ahead of him. Can cross the ball fairly well, but doesn't offer a lot else.

I was thinking about this last night. He is availiable again on Saturday but I think we should keep Purkiss in for Morecambe. I just think he's a bit better defensively than Batt.
Batt has been very good at home and I'd bring him back for the Hereford game but I think Purkiss might keep his place on Saturday. Whatever happens, I think Batt is our first choice right back but Purkiss is an excellent player to bring in, in his place when required.

I think Purkiss is pretty crap defensively... Thinks its a bit of a myth that he is a more defensive full back, he may not blast up the wings but he has put in more crosses than any other Oxford player despite only playing a handful of games.

I agree that Purkiss does get forward more than he's given credit for but not sure why you think he's crap defensively? Can you give any reasons why you think this? In the three games he's come in for we've not conceded from a set piece (which had been a big problem in previous matches) and picked up two clean sheets on the road. Purkiss in my opinion should take some of the credit for this.

The trouble is that Batt's form over the past month before his injury was absolutely stunning. Always better at home, but he scares defenders shitless. I guess it depends what kind of game we're expecting at Morecambe, what's their form like?

Morecambe have not won in seven games but the three games before that they beat Stockport, Shresbury and Torquay.
I'd prefer to see Batt start because, whilst he may be slightly weaker at the back than Purkiss he takes the pressure off by going forward more aggresively. I also feel that we should be taking risks away from home especially against the weaker teams where three points will take the pressure off against the stronger sides.

Yeah, that sounds about right to me. I really think people make too much of the difference between batt and purkiss defensively, batt made maybe one mistake over his good run of form, purkiss stands off his man far too much. He's better generally at not letting people in behind him, but with the form batt's been in there's a small amount of difference. And as the saying goes, attack is the best form of defence. With Batt in the side, we almost always look like an attacking side, and let's face it, that's what we're best at.
The question is, does it send out the right message to take Purkiss out who's just supposedly had a very good game (I didn't go, I can't comment whether he did or not)? Personally I reckon when you're bringing in a player the quality of Batt it doesn't matter, but there's a reason I'm not a football manager.

Batt has proven himself to be first choice RB he should play when available, Purkiss has done ok but, it's an obvious choice I think.

Batt makes the occassional obvious/unforced mistake but I don't think those have cost us yet but his forward play draws the opposition defenders to him and that helps create space up front even if he does not end up supplying the final ball into the box. I feel that Purkiss is ok as a back up who is probably not costing a huge amount but I think Batt is the future.
