I dont know the ins and outs of Bournemouths financial situation but from what I hear they arent in the best of positions.
This just begs the question, why?
They dont get big enough attendances to fill it, or even really make a dent, and they will just be taking on more debt to build it.
Strikes me as completely ridiculous.
If I was a fan I would want the money invested in the playing side. Get more successful on the pitch and build the new stand when the attendances justify it.
Our position is completely different but if we bought the stadium tomorrow and got planning permission for a fourth stand, I would much rather those millions (and it would take a couple of million) were put in to getting us to the Championship instead of building a stand that would sit empty for 95% of the season.

I agree with previous comments. There chairman isnt exactly the most popular person.
They arent exactly doing well this season and run the risk of relegation.
So unless the Spa and Hotel is going to pay for everything, it does concern me. However the ground is in one of the best parts of Bournemouth

What is their break even attendance though?

This should be on BBC 1 on weekday at 5.15. Completely pointless.

What is their break even attendance though? I don't see the relevance if they won't fill it. They don't sell out what they have so why built more? In case they play a big team in a cup? Ridiculous to fork out that much for a potential match once a season if they're lucky.

They might give away fans a decent allocation when it's built as at present I think they only give the away team around 1,500 tickets.

Personally when that magic day comes I hope the first thing we do is organise funding and get that 4th stand built ASAP irrespective of whether we'll fill it or not. Once the ground is our home, I'll want it to look finished and like a football ground should look. Add in to that improved acoustics, atmosphere and better control/segregation of away fans then I think building it should be right at the top of our 'to do' list. Our position within the leagues will change for years to come. Promotion, relegation, highs, lows, big attendances, small attendances. But our ground (and the fans that visit it) will remain a constant. And I want it to be ours....and finished ASAP.

They have secured a lease on the land on which they COULD build a fourth stand. A bit like oufc getting a lease on the car park beyond the fence. No commitment to build it but it should make negotiating with possible hotel developers (we might know just the man!) easier. I guess they can secure 7 day revenue streams from hotel/conference markets to help subsidise the rest of the club's running costs.

However, we should look at Brighton for example. If I am not correct at the old Goldstone Ground they didnt get particularly high attendances. Most recently we know they were restricted by their shitty temporary ground. Now with their new ground, are pulling in over 20,000 a game!
Bournemouth are a nice little club, but thinking having a 4 sided stadium, there attendances wouldnt increase that much. If they stay in Div 1, could see them averaging 8,000 a season. However, reports were when they played Southampton, Southampton could have sold 6,000 tickets with Bournemouth selling around 10,000

Just a technical point - we don't NEED Planning Permission - that was granted for the original 4 sided design and because the other 3 sides were built we have permission for the fourth 'in perpetuity' - we just need the money!!

Just a technical point- planning permission on the Stadium had a 10 year limit on it,so the planning permission expired in 2005,so if anyone wanted to build the 4th stand, they would have to apply for planning renewal.
Renewal of planning permission: This would arise when an earlier outline or full planning permission was subject to a time-limiting condition which has since expired. In essence this requires the entire planning application to be reviewed in light of current rather than previous planning policies. Applications for renewal of an earlier planning permission are usually granted anew, unless there has been a significant change in the relevant material considerations which are to be weighed in the decision.

When our fourth stand is built, will this be the 'home end'? Does anybody know what the capacity would be and what is would look like (OX Mail Stand dulicate?)

I think more then likely it will be the away end and the north stand will then become all home. I reckon the stand would add on another 4k, so the total capacity will be 16k + But we don't own the stadium yet, so it isn't going to happen and it will be a while before it happens anyway.

Sorry Saddletramp (and apologies for my triple posting!) I am right and your take is IF none of the Approval is implemented in the time period. I can assure you that we DO have Planning Permission for the fourth stand.

Is it not true that building the fourth stand has to start within 3 years of us playing in the third tier (i.e. L1)?
Or is this just a rubbish rumour that i've believed for about a decade?!

I think that's partly because the goldstone ground shut when football attendances were beginning to increase and that brighton were crap with a corrupt chair. If we got into the championship, i'd expect us to be averaging far more than we did when we were in the top flight (assuming the 4th stand was built).
