I was posting on a thread about the club shop and randomly it got me thinking how poor the food & drink service often was during the half time intervals at many games last season.
To guarantee a beer, you'd often end up missing 5-10 mins of the game. It certainly put me off parting with my hard earned at times and I am sure many people felt the same which equals a fair bit of lost revenue.
I know that we split this revenue stream with the landlord so it doesn't all come our way, but surely it's in everyone's interest to sort it out.
Is anyone involved in this area and do you know if it has been highlighted as an issue?

Do we split revenue? I thought the caterers paid Kassam a rent and they kept all profits?
As in most service situations, slow progress in queues is often the joint fault of both servers and customers. Some of the servers are desperately slow, but many punters, having queued for ten minutes which should be plenty to decide what they want, "um and er" when they're finally asked what they want and seem surprised when asked to pay, suddenly scratching around for their wallets.
Must admit, I now tend to eat fast food before the match, either from the Priory, or a takeway on the BBL.

There was post on here a few months ago which claimed Kassam does indeed take all the refreshment takings.

I was under the impression that following discussions a year or two back, we now split the profits 50/50.
I agree on the dithering bit!
Personally I always go for food beforehand at the Priory, partly due to quality and partly due to the fact I need food at lunch time rather than half way through the afternoon!
If only we could leave the ground at half time to get beer from there as well!

From what I gather, alcohol can start being sold 10 minutes before half time. That's what happens at other grounds I've been to. But we only sell it when the half time whistle goes, when a steward gives the nod. People have to miss some of the first half to be near the front if the queue, and those coming down at half time, join a huge queue, and have to miss the start of the second half. I wish the club would sort this out, half time is a nightmare at our ground.

You'd have though by now people would have figured out that the club don't own the stadium and therefore do not control the franchises that are run within it. It's a bit like complaining about Frankie & Benny's to the staff at the Cinema. I don't know what people expect the club to do.

As I said, the law allows it to be sold 10 minutes before half time. But we don't do that, its makes life harder for fans. The majority of the staff are ok, and agree with our frustrations.

There was post on here a few months ago which claimed Kassam does indeed take all the refreshment takings. From memory... The catering company (whose name escapes me, they do a large number of other clubs too) make any profit from the in-stand refreshments. They pay the stadco a fee/rent for the privilege of operating. I believe the shared income part comes from the box/restaurant catering which is done by stadco. U's get a share of matchday income from this.

You could try I suppose, but why would the landlord bother when they get their money either way? Only really worth complaining to the ones who provide the food. The club obviously want to do right by their fans, but a third party selling food via a uncooperative landlord is hardly the clubs fault or responsibility.

its the organisation that wrong, they either need to double team the service - 1 person at till the other getting the food, or have a drinks only till on each side, its when they disapear for burgers or pies that slows the service

If the club isn't getting a share of the profits why buy the overpriced crap the kiosks sell? Surely not having one of the crappy, cold burgers the stands churn out at half time isn't going to do you irreperable harm.

If people do not like the service provided then either complain direct to the company providing the service or stop using their services. I suggest that the latter is the only way the service will change.
Why should the club get involved when they gain zero from the catering? If anything the club may gain in the long term from the poor catering because the caterers/Kassam will make less money if they continue to provide poor service. If they improve their service they will sell more/make more profit/end up paying Kassam more when the their contract is renewed and Kassam will continue to demand too much for the stadium.
I hope the service remains shite. I am a fat bastard but even I can last a couple of hours without needing an overpriced/poor quality product or the need to drink a gassy gottle of geer!

Why should the club get involved when they gain zero from the catering? Because we're OUFC's customers, as well as Lindleys'? I'm sure Lindleys have loads of other groups of customers, but OUFC only have us. It really wouldn't be too onerous for KT to take up the cudgel on our behalf, irrespective of whether there's any money in it for the club.

I think the club have asked for better trained staff, but if Lindleys presumably pay Kassam for the concession and it is then up to Lindleys how they operate it, in terms of staff numbers, experience, quality of food, prices and so on. So it could be fine one week with four people per counter, then next week only two turn up and they have no idea how the till works, and no inclination to try and get as many people served in a short time.

If then, as seems to be the case, it is pretty widespread knowledge that the club is being shafted why are people still queing in their droves at the kiosks?

I think it is part of the traditional match day experience and a routine you get into, no matter how bad the food or service, a lot of fans like to get a snack and a drink at half time. Doesn't really matter if it is a bar of chocolate, a pie, burger, hot dog, tea, coffee, bovril, beer. People have their

Don't buy any of it!
Eat and drink at the priory or on the Leys before you get to the game.
The only input FK should be getting from us is what we collectively spit, shit and p*ss while we're there. If he wants to take the p*ss out of us, he's welcome to it!
Support the local business' ahead of FK, Priory, Blackbird and the local chippy. Take a snack with you, give FK F**K all!

Can i raise something that people dont seem to feel the need to discuss. Beers arent sold until half time, and by then, there are long queues. From what i gather, alcohol can be sold from 10 minutes before half time. If this happened, it would relieve pressure on staff, and help people get food and drink quicker

Why can't you complain to the people providing the service just like you would in any other situation? You CAN complain to Lindleys, obviously. I hear people complaining to the serfs behind the counter every home match. You might even, occasionally, hear a supervisor apologising. No doubt if you wrote to someone who's REALLY in charge at Lindleys you might get a free bun. Point is, if you suddenly fancy something to eat a half-time - and I would suggest many people get alcohol-induced munchies - you only have one choice, and as customers of both Lindleys and OUFC would it hurt for, say, KT to at least make a representation for the experience to be improved?
