All becuase of a few tweets by the former Chief Exec about Pete Winkelman at MK Dons... Supporters Direct were always a very helpful source of assistance for Oxvox and Dave Boyle an intelligent , passionate, if a bit anti establishment leader. They do an awful lot for football supporters around the country. The funding can't cease because of this storm in a teacup! Somebody see some sense ffs. www.guardian.co.uk/football/2011/jun/12/supporters-direct-funding-withdrawn-twitter

It would appear that Boyle had got too big for his boots and stepped over the line. The result of this may prove very costly.
Maybe he had been in the job too long and thought he was untouchable!!!
Storm in a teacup??? it goes to prove that you have lost touch with reality. Chairman of bodies such as SD and Trusts need to remember what their role is and not use it for personal gain or opinions.
As for being intelligent that is up for debate when posting such remarks on a social network site such as Twitter.

Surely these were comments made by Dave Boyle as a person and not necessarily in an official capacity. His resignation is enough surely? In my opinion they've just been waiting for an excuse to do this.

Anybody in a position of authority/influence needs to think carefully how their comment will be viewed by others, since inevitably they will be taken to represent their position to some extent. Witness Sam Deering. Part of the problem here appears to be Supporters Direct's response. Ok so the individual apologised but for SD to say that's it, without thinking of wider ramifications was naive. Had they said he has apologised and been disciplined/warned re future behaviour rather than what they did, they might have survived. I hope the PL will accept that SD have learnt a lesson, reinstate the grant and move on, maybe even offering SD some guidance re media/governance!

SD have lost their ENTIRE GRANT as a result of some seemingly ill judged tweets. Please share any experiences you've had of what SD has done for the football trust movement and supporters generally in the UK, Mr 'Wingit'. They have been very effective generally and very helpful specifically to OxVox. It looks to me like the PL were itching for an excuse to can the grant. Sad news, hope something can be patched up.

Sorry but I agree with the others on this PRB. Boyle has overstepped the mark and as a result the funding has been withdrawn. Mr Boyle was stupid to make such remarks on a social network such as twitter. They may be his own views however in his position he should have kept them to himself. If you are right about the PL itching to find a reason then Mr Boyle has given them one on a plate.

There are bigger things afoot than Dave Boyle's lack of judgment. I thought football was a passionate game as well. Ask Wayne Rooney... www.twohundredpercent.net/?p=13251

I've met Boyle on two occasions.
A good bloke and cares passionately about supporter involvement in football clubs.
He got a bit excitable, no doubt and carried away after his team beat Luton at Eastlands last month.
I put it down to exuburance and buffoonery rather than anything malicious.

Yesterday we sent a letter to the FSIF and copied in our Patron – Andrew Smith MP, and the acting chief executive of Supporters Direct Brian Burgess. A copy of the letter we sent can be seen here: oxvox.org.uk/news.aspx?id=269

"We feel that you have used this incident as an excuse to remove funding to an organisation, which has become increasingly influential and has an opposing view to yours in terms of the merits of supporter-owned clubs. "
Not sure that was the wisest thing to have in your letter, when asking for them to reinstate funding throwing an unfounded accusation at them is not going to be very well received!

"The FSIF ... no longer has confidence in Supporters Direct's leadership and judgment and therefore the decision to offer the organisation a grant has been rescinded," the FSIF said in a statement.
In response, SD, had an Emergency Meeting in which David Boyle resigned. The organisation has moved swiftly and decisively to address this serious scenario which has huge ramifications.

For those interested this is what Supporters Direct have achieved since its inception.
Growth: Supporters’ trusts have now been established at over 160 clubs. Membership: Over 120,000 people are members of supporters’ trusts. Finance: Supporters’ trusts have now brought in well over £25 million of new finance into football and rugby league. Ownership: 15 clubs are in ownership or control by supporters trusts. Partnership: Over 110 supporters’ trusts now have shareholdings in their clubs. Boardroom: Nearly 60 supporters’ trusts have directors at their clubs. Over 50% of these are directly elected by the membership of the trust. Reach: Supporters of nearly 70% of clubs in the top five divisions of football in England, and the top four divisions in Scotland have established supporters’ trusts. Community: Reorientating clubs to deliver active community engagement.
Clubs owned or controlled by their supporters' trust:
AFC Telford United, AFC Wimbledon, Bramley Buffaloes (RL), Brentford, Cambridge City, Clydebank (Scotland), Enfield Town, Exeter City, FC United of Manchester, Gretna (Scotland), Merthyr Tydfil, Newport (IW) FC, Rochdale Hornets (RL), Runcorn Linnets, Scarborough Athletic.
(Thanks to TL who posted this insight on the OxVox Forum).

I have today recieved an email from Andrew Smith MP thanking us for copying him into the letter. He has subsequently put down a Parliamentary Question to the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, which asks 'if he will make representations to the Premier League to reinstate funding for Supporters Direct.'
He is also in the process of writting to the Sports Minister.
It's good to see our local MP shares our concerns and is taking this matter forwards.

Its good to see that a quality Labour MP has the real interests of the working class at heart. It makes a change to see a real grass roots MP fighting the cause of the grass roots supporters. Maybe the MP for Witney could take up the cause, hang on he's busy being kicked out of Guys hospital by a NHS Consultant. Still well done Mark and Oxvox for getting this into the House of Commons. Now make sure that the credit for this is not hijacked by any egotistical media chasing control freak

Could someone enlighten my ignorance as to just what the hell he said to make the FSIF get their collective knickers in such a twist?
