The LMA highlighted there were 58 changes of manager last season - 40 of which were dismissals.
The average tenure for a dismissed manager was 1.58 years. Half of those managers were in the job less than one year.
Fistly, congratulations to Chris Wilder for lasting so long, but how long can this continue? How long is enough time for a manager to show what they can do? Surely any manager deserves a minimum of one year?

Football is one of the most ruthless industries there is. Vast sums of money are spent every season in way that is little more than reckless gambling. The problem is most clubs are now like gambling addicts in too deep to stop so the only way is to gamble more. Debts are at horrendous levels (700million) so now the term success or bust is a way of life for most clubs. In this boiling pot of desperate need for success any and all resources are expendable, managers more than most.
Of course this is all far from right but until football gets its house in order that is the way it sadly is. So to answer your last question first Yes a manager deserves at least a year to prove his worth. Unfortunately financial pressures mean this is often not the case.
As to how long a manager should get well I think you are right in saying about a year is enough. After that it is obvious whether the chap has potential or not (that does not mean he has to win the league or anything but be judged on his ability). Having said that clubs have a responsibility to pick managers more carefully then ensure they have the tools, support to apace to a reasonable job. Football seems to have as many poor chairmen \ owners as they do managers.
Lastly (and sorry for the length of this reply) to us. How long does Wilder get? Well on the one hand so far we are holding our own in this league. On the other we still need more success to wipe out the debt and buy our stadium to ensure our future. So we have to be ambitious. This makes for a tricky judgement call. I think personally what will happen is Wilder will get (and deserves to get) all of this next season, but expectations for him will be much higher. What happens after that depends on just how we do. I think both he and we are lucky to be able to afford time to make these decisions properly.

The turnover of managers at some clubs is shocking but, as already stated, hardly surprising when you consider the financial pressure some of these clubs put on themselves.
As for CW I'm just pleased with have a chairmen who understands the word 'patience' and in CW himself a manager who truely understands this football club.
As a combo they allow me to rest easy knowing the club is in good hands on and off the pitch and its easy to underestimate just how important it is for a club, at any level, to have a manager and chairmen who appreciate and respect each other and sing from the same hymn sheet.
Baring some tragic u-turn in fortune that saw us relegated back to the C-word, I'd give CW all the time he needs.
Because by giving CW time you give the KT & CW partnership time, and that can only be a good thing for OUFC.

Totally agree that it is ridiculous that managers get so little time.
BUT:
Contracts [mostly] get paid up (depending on the terms & conditions obviously); so if a manager gets a 2½ year deal and gets sacked after a year, he still gets the extra 1½ years payment i believe.

He would unless he's in breach of contract ...

If a manager is truly awful and they get the club relegated then they deserve the sack and probably not get paid the rest of the contract. If that happened in business they would not be compensated. I don't know what will happen with Alex McLeish as it seems like Villa may have been talking to him before he resigned. It would probably serve him right if he was out of football for while
