Ruffels has had two or three really poor home games recently and Ledson is well below his best at the moment. The midfield was poor and are not compact at all when we don’t have the ball.
I forgot about Long - he’s had almost 2 1/2 years out with injury after that bad ankle injury at Hillsborough in Aug 2015.

The negatives have been well covered, here are a few positives:
We didn't get any bookings. After going 3 down, we didn't give up. We turned possession over a lot. Eastwood didn't have a save to make. Their keeper had to make two very good saves. I just about managed not to hit the dick who cut me up on the Wolvercote roundabout. It was a good game to watch, just not if you're an Oxford fan.
Err, that's it. Night night.

2 of their goals were gifts. I actually thought Blackburn weren’t all that - and on occasion our football was quite sublime. We concede goals for fun though - where is that ‘they shall not pass’ mentality?
I think it’s time for Carroll.
At one stage we seemed to have six impish midfielders all within 10 yards of each other. Too many similar types does not lead to consistent success.
Has there been a better goal at the KasStad than Payne’s? What an outstanding player he is.
Again don’t get this supporter woe is me stuff. We are brilliantly inconsistent - but again it was an exciting watch tonight.
I wouldn’t be surprised if we thrash Southend.

Agree with messrs Baldi, Silver and Cannell on dark arts, dithery play and pussiness respectively. Can anyone explain why the second goal wasn't offside? I thought Tiendalli was quite good. The guy came from behind the ball. Not as hot on the laws as I used to be but pretty sure that makes him onside. Don't think we can have any complaints about the penalty, if that was at the other end I'd be p*ssed off if we didn't get it.

A few things baffled me tonight that make me question PEPs ability to read a game tactically.
First thing is the substitutions we're lacking creativity and our only threat of any sort is coming from Rothwell and Payne. Funnily enough the two most direct players tonight, it was clear Blackburn were uncomfortable when we ran at them. Pep decided the best way we could try to get anything out of this game is, firstly, take of a winger and bring on a centre midfielder. Your going to recall Malachi Napa and make him sit on the bench? He won't even be on there in a month when GVK us back fit. He would be better off still developing on loan if we're not going to use him.
This is a game Hall would've shone in he is a direct winger and it was clear Blackburn didn't like being ran at. Napa is the closest thing we had in the team to him ladt night.
Obika for Thomas, again something that doesn't make sense too me. We're chasing the game and you stick with 1 up top whuch Blackburn had coped relatively well with all night. Why doesn't he want to play them together? Ricardinho was putting quality crosses in that box again tonight and 1 man was only in there 2 up front allows more aerial threat for us to try to use.
Along with this that annoyed me, another thing that frustrated me was how poorly we conceded goals. All 4 were easily avoidable tonight. Maybe 1 or 2 were because of fortune from the crap officals, who seemed to be so inconsistent tonight (but that isn't where the entire blame should be) yes they were bad, but we shouldn't be in the situation to rely on officals in first place. Goal 1, someone loses there man from the corner far to easily. Just stand ypur ground let them run into you if you can't out muscle them. Goal 2, the penalty a bit harsh but any contact and the man has the right to go down. Goal 3 Why are we letting a ball bounce and then Martin trying to force passes caused that goal. Goal 4 though is the worst, Ricardinho should be tight to his man not give him time to cross but he does and then the defending in the box was diabolical. 1 man in the box and it goes to him.
Only 5 players should have guarantee of a shirt Saturday and the others all have reasons to be dropped.
Eastwood- 10x better then Shearer although not as good as last season still be solid. Mousinho- Only real leader, sometimes tries to be too clever but is our best defender. Ricardinho- Great going forward not so much defending however, no one who can play there as well as him. Lots of good crosses aswell. Rothwell- Good creative outlet who never stops Payne- The same as Rothwell
On a lighter note there were some good things tonight. Obika looks confident and can only gain in it after another goal. Rothwell and Payne were class and caused Blackburn issues.
If this couldn't get any worse it's Southend next. Almost feels like the outcome is clear as day on recent history.
I hate being negative but there wasn't alot positive about that display 1st half especially.

Jack Payne is excused from this next rant.
Sorry that was shameful again not the defeat but the manner of it. I travelled 190 miles around 4 hours on the bike to watch some half hearted mercenaries play football. Last season we lost to sheffield united which despite being only one goal better was a significantly better attempt from our "players" and "management". The performance, commitment and lack of stupid mistakes made me think despite the loss we were beaten by a good team that plays well. Today not having that, there was nothing in that display to make me proud to be a yellow. I left at 70 mins i couldnt even be bothered to boo the players off, we weren't unlucky they had the better chances and we could have been 5 down at HT. Jack Payne was the only glimmer of hope in a shambolic display (and if i was him i would be hoping for a better loan placement second half of the season). It's a long way and faff to get from cambridge to oxford on a week night but i aint doing it again this season. Not for that team or manager. I'm off to bed now hopefully that was just a nightmare and it will all be ok in the morning.

I think the number of goals we have shipped in the last six weeks, and the manner and severity of our defeats, is alarming given we are only in mid-November and have still got well over 25 league games to go. Look at the table in terms of 10th to 20th, look at who has played what and who is on what points etc, and you tell me why I should be confident that by Christmas everything will be hunky dory. Tell me why it's absolute nonsense for anybody to look at the last 14 odd games in league and cup and go "Hang on..." when they consider where we'll be inside a month if the form doesn't turn. I want to know why everyone is meant to be completely and utterly care free. I really, really want to know. Because at the end of the day it’s just a bloody game of football. We enjoy the highs, ride the lows, get angry, depressed, frustrated, irate, etc etc, but it’s still just a game of football.

The first half hour we were f*cking, absolutely, cunting awful, 3 nil flattered us, with Martins attempts at even just pretending to be a professional footballer for their second laughable.
After that, when we were out of the game and Blackburn took the foot of the gas, we looked decent. The question is why we start so slowly, especially at home, most managers like a team to keep it tight and play themselves into the game, we seem to play every part of the game with the same attitude, nice sideways passing which takes us a while to get going, we give the the ball away in dangerous areas which the fresh legged, direct style opposition take advantage of to create chances, just a case of whether they take them or not.
Clotet can't do much about the injuries to defenders which have left us with a poor defence, but he will have to accept that's what we have and tailor our playing style to that, especially at the beginning of games. No team with Aaron Martin at the back can afford to take a relaxed attitude to defending, the man is a walking calamity as a footballer who we appear stuck with until we can patch someone up/January comes.
If once we have a respectable defence back this standard of defending continues, after what will be six months of Clotets coaching, then he should go, because it's not acceptable, crowds are dropping and we don't win/won't win home games.

We definitely miss a player or two that are willing to leave their foot in and be an irritant to the other team. Which player will physically get into the opposition and put a marker down? Can't think of one consistently at the moment. Teams know that if they can be physical and pressure us early, we go into our shell.

Blackburn were not all that.
Crab football is doing my head in.
We are back to the days where no one fears for the job or place, unlike the eadly days of MAPP.
PEP could not jeer up a band!

No genuine wingers in the side, no genuine pace.
Losing Nelson is a huge blow, unfortunately Martin is not up to it, Raglan please get match fit as soon as possible.
Hope I'm wrong but starting to get the impression that losing doesn't hurt enough (to some) from the top of the club to the supporters. I Don't get this "No need to be alarmed we drew the second half and it was entertaining" stuff. Worrying complacency.
And another thing that really annoys me is this..... we get a free kick 5 or 10 yards inside the opposition half and ALWAYS take it quick and short, often sideways and eventually backwards. Ok I know it's the Pep way and it's all about retaining possession but in once in a while just mix it up a bit, send the centre-halves upfield and launch the ball into the penalty, give the opposition something else to think about.

10mins of Blackburn pressing our defence and we caved in.
It was like our greatest hits of how to concede this season:
✅ individual errors ✅ crosses in to the six yard box ✅ crosses from the left
Once 3-0 down we picked things up. Seem to remember one move in the first half that looked to give the team belief.
I thought Xemi added something to that midfield when he came on. Decent first touch and moved the ball well.
The main issue is not having anyone in the midfield to take the ball off the defence. The CBs have possession, pass to our RB/LB, they are met with static wingers, which forces us to play long or risky passes in to CM which Blackburn shut down.

That's how I know people have nothing to offer, when they stop trying to talk about the game and dismiss it as "just football". That's when I know nobody has any defence or explanation for what's going on out on the pitch, when they shift the conversation to downplaying the entire sport. Of course it's "just football". I'm not going to sit at my job all day today crying and agonising, watching the goals on repeat and moving magnetic discs around a whiteboard to see where things went wrong. But the thing is... this is a football forum, and this is the matches section of that forum. So, I hate to break it to you, but most people are here to discuss the match and the state of general play in recent games. And, what's even weirder, is that some people are gonna use it for just that. In fact, coming on here to essentially wave people away and go "Alright, alright, get moving you lot, it's only football" is a bit strange. Why even bother posting? It's only football. It doesn't matter. Thing is, though, I like many others pay over £400 a year for my ST, and spend probably double that again on away tickets and travel. I reckon my total spend on OUFC every season is £1500 minimum when you factor in travel and so forth. So with that in mind, if I want to have a say on the team or the club, on a forum and in a specific section that exists solely for that purpose and reason, I'm going to. And if you don't like it, that's absolutely fine. Because it's JUST a forum, and this is JUST football.

I thought out lot tried hard enough last night, and some bits of what we did were quite entertaining and even competent at times. The problem is that (with a couple of exceptions, one of whom isn't even ours!) the players simply aren't good enough, some aren't fit enough and all of them are trying to play a style that is too easily countered by any team with something about them.
There's nothing Clotet can do about the first and the second needs more fitness work/training (which might cause more injuries to the more aged members of the squad!). So surely he has to rethink this way of playing and make the best of the players he has to work with rather than just doing the same thing over and over again and hoping it somehow works out?
If I see another quick, short free kick to someone who is already marked, I think my head will explode. And can somebody explain to me how the keeper rolling the ball out to a player who has no option than to pass it straight back for the keeper to hit it up the pitch gives us any advantage at all over the keeper just launching it to begin with? Or how farting about with the ball slowly in our own half and constantly putting ourselves under pressure is a good idea?

Some people welcomed the away win against Plymouth as if it was the Second Coming. Personally, I just looked on it as 3 more points towards the 52 we are going to need to stay up. We were playing for 80 minutes against 10 pretty poor players, bless them. That was never going to beca reliable form guide against 11 better players. Some other poster says to keep things in perspective because it's only a game. That's quite right. But keeping things in perspective doesn't mean being delusional. pottersrightboot called our play last night 'sublime.' One of the Blackburn guys I spoke to was a bit less complimentary. 'I like Oxford, so please dont take this the wrong way but that was the easiest win we have had all season. If Mowbray wasnt such a defensive manager we would have gone on to win that 5-0 and believe me, we are not all that good. I don't know this league as well as you, but with the exception of your number 10 that looked like a relegation outfit.' Of course, thankfully we DO have the number 10 (6 goals and 10 assists, is it?) But it's not exactly reassuring to be so reliant on one loanee just to keep our heads above water. Let's hope that the new owners are ready to splash out to bring in 2 or 3 League 1 ready athletes with some pace and power. Because that is what we desperately need.

What was frustrating for me was, despite playing pretty well in the second half, we ended up with about 10 central midfield players, all playing nice tippy tappy football but trying to forge a way to goal through the central part of the pitch was always going to be impossible. No wingers. Then they pop up t'other end, sling in a cross from their first attack of the half, and bingo. We really really do need to get some wingers on the pitch/in the club. I realise we probably only have Napa as a winger who is currently fit however.

Without Payne we are fucked.

A very strange game to analyse. This will happen again this season because for me we are too naive and are lacking maturity. It wasn’t what the score suggested but they just did the basics and scored 4 very scrappy goals. We were never in the game apart from maybe 10 mins into the second half where if we could of got back to 2-3 who knows. It’s just frustrating to come out of a game at home and think we didn’t play too badly but got beat 2-4. We played some really good football again but opposition teams can score the most simple and basic goals against us. We are looking very open at the back and I think a lot of that is due to what’s in front of them. Ledson was miles away from dack, surely he should of been all over him! I think the last two games sum us up... we can hammer someone but also get it the other way. It will happen again, and again. We are a good footballing team.. just lack those vital ingredients to really push on and be consistent. I’m not too disappointed as this season I’m accepting it’s a work in progress.. we shall see after the “takeover” Oufc.

Not sure why you posted this - just to insult other Oxford supporters? He enjoys throwing insults around. Makes him sound like a right thick Brexiter
