Forever the optimist, I'm hoping to see a match where we show some promise, flare* and balls.
Too chilly to venture out, so feet up and a couple of beers for me, cheers!

A feast of footballing skills, and England are there too!
Just seen a guy holding up a half and half England/Germany scarf. Football is dead!!

Why are we not wearing white?! The Germans got down early and nicked the white kit.

Why are we not wearing white?! I suspect that, the way the brexit negotiations are progressing, they are at home

For a 0-0 a very enjoyable game to watch. Some good performances from a young English side

I wasn't that impressed with our play but Germany were a well-organised team. Perhaps Southgate can make you a force - this is England's least stupid approach for some decades.

From the stuff I saw, a bit up and down from England but largely a positive performance. Quite why Loftus-Cheek has played just 21 professional games is beyond me for a lad of that talent. He needs to leave Chelsea ASAP

I’m amazed that people actually paid to go and watch an England reserve team and others actually thought it was the best thing to watch on tv tonight.
We have the most exciting league in the world (not talent though) but that’s due to the amount of foreign players in the league. As an international side though we are average with a poor, slow style of play that bores the life out of me and many others I know.

Didn't go tonight Jerrome...... Didn't even watch it. I went to all 5 home qualifiers and was bored rigid for a lot of them. Poor tactics, no atmosphere, except v Scotland, expensive nights out.
We have NO CHANCE in Russia next summer.

Really enjoyed the game. But then i did watch Sweden v Italy.
Couldn't be bothered watching a load of players who will be on their hols when the WC starts next summer.
What odds do you think the bookies will give me,on Jack Cork being in the WC squad ? I will take nothing less than 1000/1 !

Very enjoyable 0-0, was very impressed with Maguire, don’t really watch premiership anymore so know very little about him! Out performed the so called world class Stones anyway. RLC was by far England’s MOTM too

I thought that it was a decent 0-0.
Loftus- Cheek and Maguire both must have done their chances a lot of good. As Gary said I am amazed that Loftus- Cheek has played so few first team games. He should have left Chelsea some time ago and played for somebody who wants to play him.
The odds are against us doing well in Russia, but fair play to Southgate in using younger players and trying to play a decent style. There are some really good younger players coming through in the next few years and who knows in four years time ...

First time I've felt optimistic after watching England for a long while. Some encouraging performances. The Palace lad is certainly one to watch.

I think Southgate was wrong to say we deserved to win, we could and should of been 3 down but for some atrocious finishing and Sane's effort was unlucky. Having said that it was good to watch for a change after the qualifiers which were as dull as dishwater in the main, i do think though that had that not been a friendly the Germans were capable of going up another gear or 2 and would have exposed our defensive deficiencies more

England got lucky from what I saw, but looked a more flexible and energetic side. No disrespect to Henderson, but at times he is hopelessly ponderous with the ball. If Southgate and the FA are willing to commit and invest in the coming generations, it might be a good one for England. The fact the Germans are jealous of the talent we having coming through, says a lot. Like always, they need to play to develop though...

He must have forgotten Jones heading off the line, Pickford making some very tidy saves and Germany hitting the bar. Having said that, I think we were much better than I expected us to be. The youngsters certainly did themselves no harm, but it remains to be seen whether or not Southgate picks on name basis or merit. Henderson shouldn’t be in the England team and neither should Hart.

Can't disagree with Hart and Henderson being dropped, Henderson is no better than Carlton Palmer was and look at the stick Taylor got for picking him. I actually think we have the makings of a good team, Kane gets in any team on the planet, Stones and Alli are class and we can make a good team from the rest. Centre midfield is a weak spot but Winks and Chelsea loanee can hopefully take us up a level there though. Crap manager in Southgate though, if we had Spurs manager we could do something, might make the quarter finals but any further would need more than a pen pushing FA yes man at the helm.

Hart in such a short time has gone from a top keeper to basically obsolete in the modern game. Pickford's distribution and general calmness was a contrast to Hart's hot coal attitude to the ball. If England want to play out from the back, Hart just isn't that sort of keeper.

Of course Pochettino is one of the top 5 club managers in the World and fantastic with the younger players. But... Southgate has brought on a ,lot of the younger players and should take credit for that.

It’s one thing saying fair play to Southgate for giving the youngsters their chance but realistically how many will be on the plane to Russsia in the summer? I can’t see that many of them and the FA will push for experience over the next generation of talent.
If it was me I’d take a very young squad who are likely to be going to the euros 2 years later and get them experience in a World Cup to build towards doing well at the 2020 euros.

You might also wonder why they were not given the opportunity in the qualifiers, it's not as if people have expectations this time, On a seperate note it's time the Fa stopped bowing down to the clubs and did something about constant withdraws from international squads especially as in most cases they always play for their clubs next game.also the nonsense of agreement to play only a certain amount of minutes.

Well let's see shall we? He has introduced a lot of youngsters that previous managers would never have done (can you see Eriksson, Capello, Hodgson have played Loftus- Cheek?) I reckon that Southgate will have the say on the players going to the WC not the FA. So hopefully Pickford, Loftus-Cheek, Winks, etc will go to the WC and as you rightly state will have good preparation for the 2020 Euros and 2022 WC
