I'm really looking forward to it. It's my first game of the season and I finally get to collect my season ticket! Wish they would've just posted them prior to the start of the season to save me collecting it before the game, but I suppose every penny counts. Sublime bit of skill from Hillman to set up Chivers at the weekend. Highlights here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=0kZbV63cIHQ - watch from 2:19 if you just want to see the moment I'm referring to. Hopefully there's a decent crowd on Thursday. There's a Park & Ride service being put on from Thornhill direct to the ground, which is a nice touch. www.oxfordunitedwfc.co.uk/news/park_ride_service_available_for_man_city.html

Bit of a ramble. I'm still putting names to faces and numbers, so it's a bit lacking but oh well... The team were very compact and organised during the first-half. Some very good, resolute defending on display. Man City looked a bit frustrated at times, having shots from 25+ yards and not really creating any clear cut chances. City had a lot of joy out wide, but we kept it pretty tight in the centre limiting their chances. They won a penalty a few minutes before half-time and then scored quickly again after kick-off. Unfortunate, but that's football. We didn't really create much; Chivers must have been frustrated, but she kept moving and got back into position when City had the ball. Certainly not an easy job to do. Her best chance - which saw her hit the post - was unfortunately offside. The second half the players were given a bit more freedom to play. They gave it a go and had a few good moments. Our downfall in the second half was largely courtesy of Megan Campbell's rocket powered arms - wow she can throw a ball! I think 3 goals were conceded from throw-ins, so that's a bit frustrating, but it's also something that is easily identifiable as an area we need to work on. Here's an example of how far she can throw the ball: www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tl0y8Wcme1kSo if you factor out the throw-ins and the penalty, only 2 goals came from open play, which is a actually quite good when you consider we were playing the biggest, most well-funded women's team in the country, the champions and current holders of the FA Cup. Man City were the better team, of course, but I think our performance was a bit better than the scoreline suggests and there are positives to take from the game. The level of concentration and discipline shown during the first 40-odd minutes was very impressive. I thought Man City were very professional. I've seen them play a lot and know how well they can move the ball. The thing that struck me most was how well they communicated. Always talking. When you're right next to the pitch and noise levels are low in general, you can really notice it and appreciate it a bit more. Steph Houghton was still barking orders at the team from the sidelines as she warmed down. At the end of the day the game was bigger than the result itself; it was about bringing more eyes to the women's game in general and particularly Oxford United. 777 in attendance was a good number in my opinion. And the local youth teams seemed genuinely excited to be a part of it which was really great to see. I quite enjoyed the facilities at CPF. They had a number of drinks on tap as well as bottles and spirits. I had a pint of Stowford Press, which isn't great, but it's still far nicer than the bottle of p*ss they attempt to call cider at Grenoble Road. Managed to watch a bit of the Everton game, too. I then sampled a cheese and bacon burger. Not bad at all for £3.20. It was fresh and tasty. They had quite a good selection of food, all reasonably priced. The lovely chap from up north, Shaun, was his usual self - announcing the teams as Manchester United Women vs Oxford United Women before kick-off.
