A good read as always.
Andy Pilley - Fleetwood owner - virtually fully funded the clubs’ new training facility at a reported cost of around £8m. Sir Alex Ferguson recently opened it.
Could it all end in tears?

Could it all end in tears? That's another club then that have something we have not - their own training facility. Could it end in tears - yes, but I guess Fleetwood fans don't give a damn at the moment as long as Andy Pilley is around and is willing to throw money at the club. There's no way they could be at the level they are without someone doing this. They should enjoy it while they can. However he is only 47 so could carry on for years and years.

Usual good read Paul. I share your concern about our defence - 3 wins in 9 & a lot of goals conceded is not good. I couldn't understand Pep "going for the win" by putting Obika on when we clearly were hanging on & Dwight was knackered! Stil, let's hope he solves things for this Friday - an FA Cup exit by a team virtually bottom of the pile would be very hard to take.

Thanks for this Paul, a good if depressing read. I wasn't really expecting anything from this game, given our record against them, so when I checked the half-time score and it was still 0-0 I became hopeful of at least a point. Just goes to show you should always listen to your gut! Talking of which, mine is yelling at me not to expect too much from the next four games, and I can see why for the following reasons 1)Northampton - we have a hit and miss record against them and I can see them nicking a late goal to win it; 2)Plymouth - look to getting their act together, especially at home, and our away form is patchy against sides below us; 3) Blackburn - given that we've still to beat any side above us in the table at home, the best we can look forward to is a point; 4) Southend - our record against them is on a par (if not worse) than Fleetwood.
I hope I'm wrong, but I think we'll be doing well to get more than 3 points from the next four games....

I'm reluctant to make predictions of any sort regarding Oxford United results, whether positive or negative ones. They have a habit of making you look stupid. Right, now I'm going to say it - I'm pretty confident we'll get more than 3 points from our next 4 league games.

A little bit depressing to read. I thought we generally played ok. Obviously, lack of concentration at the end, to close down Grant was costly and ultimately lost us the game. However, whilst we kept possession well, we lacked penetration and guile to open up defences. It seems that we rely so much on Payne to open up defences. When he struggles we often look blunt. A general lack of pace across midfield and the ability to spread the ball quickly from our centre midfielders limits our attacking options. Lots of energy and commitment, loved by our fans, but little cutting edge against many league 1 central partnerships. On the day, we were unlikely to score but should have kept a clean sheet. Fancy us in the return fixture.
Just a couple of players away from a top league one team. Imho.

In the 4 league games up to Rotherham we only let in 2. We have some very good players. It could go either way - upwards or downwards. Given Pep is still learning L1 and there is the Jan transfer window I'm fairly optimistic it will be in the right direction. It might have been a day for Robbie Hall, at least given a few mins run out from the bench. The only time we really unlocked their defence was a Mowatt ball to Thomas.

His trickery and ability to go past a man is gust what we needed.

Good report in the main Paul if a little depressing as ontheup01 has said.. I agree with both of you generally. When Payne doesn't play well we really struggle to open up the most stubborn defences. Also, I might just point out as well that when you are a defender you are damned if you do and damned if you don't. Make a mistake and its often costly or at the very least the player is subsequently assassinated on the forum...
Miss a good chance as a striker and its "OOOH how unlucky." Thomas's effort on Saturday was case in point it... was easier to score than miss for a player of his calibre and if you look back on it subjectively as you would a defenders error, it was a simply dreadful effort. Its those missed chances that often win or lose a game.
As for the Corner that lead to the first goal yes it should have been cleared..Mous should have come through and attacked the ball. Far from Ribs watching it drop out of the air he was in fact no where near it ..had he been a couple of feet taller I suppose he might have got a hair on it. It was a great corner whipped in with pace and a wicked bend on it. Ribs should however have charged out to try and shut down the resultant shot as he was the nearest but I think he was having one of his momentary lapses in concentration in an otherwise solid game.

I just about agree with you, I think. But that defending all round was so shockingly bad the only way I could equate that to something similar from a striker would have been if they we in the area with the chance of a shot but just stood there not shooting, not moving, not passing. Thomas's chance was a decent one but I didn't think it was that easy. Plus it is intelligent running that puts him in those positions. Nothing intelligent about that defending. We're so much better than that.
