Right hand side definitely louder than the left yesterday, but then again it always was even at the Manor.

I have to say I'm not a great fan of instruments at footy. But I will say using it like this works for me. It is not leading the songs or creating noise in place of atmosphere. It was helping maintain tempo to try and keep things going.

God they were just behind us and over a bit and f*ck my ear drum is still banging. Hope they move back to the middle and allow us older generation to sit in peace👂 Is that why your wife rang Radox instead of you Bazzer? If so, I say keep the drum going 😉 Yes it was but was in my mates car and his radio kept on losing the signal all I heard was Sue was is on the line then it all cut out but I heard her say she was spending next weekend in Blackpool for the Fleetwood game.......what I want to know is it a dirty weekend or not

I must admit I though 'oh no' when the drum started up.
But..
It was used sensibly, was better than a bass drum, and did the keep the tempo for the singers. By the end of the game I'd stopped noticing it (but that might be because the football was so engrossing!). Well done for trying something different and I think you should keep the experiment going for a bit.

First of all, credit to the Ultra's for a) trying something different and b) they're hard work in making our football club better. Anyone who is giving their time to make OUFC. a better place is pretty good by me! I like what they did on twitter, they were appealing for people to join them. That was a very clever move. Some people had turned slightly against them after last season and the walk out. Not neccesarily due to the walk out itself but due to the opinions of some afterwards that were forceful/like they were better than others. I think there may have been people who have always wanted to join in but thought of the ultras as an exclusive group, so well done for trying to grow and get others involved (god knows we need more singers like them!) As for the game itself, I was disappointed they moved to the far right. I sit centre left and the atmosphere was sucked out of our side. That isn't necessarily their fault but their move is the catalyst for a lack of noise from left side. For me, the drum didn't work either. Pleased it wasn't just bashed for 90 minutes, but I don't think it helped or was needed. Fair play to the ultras, tried something different. Although I didn't think it worked yesterday, it's still worth a go at the next home game when storm Brian has gone. On a personal note, I hope they return to a more central part of the East stand. Far prefer them in the middle getting the atmosphere going! I think the Ultra's are trying all they can and carrying the can for too many in the East stand. We need to have more singers. Perhaps not everyone knows the words and we can post a few popular ones on here, but our atmosphere needs to improve. It cannot just be the ultras doing their best, we need everyone. The move and drum may not have worked directly for the left side, but it worked and helped 10 fold for us. And those in blocks 21 and 20 joined in a lot more than block 19 and 18 (left side) ever did. So all in all the atmosphere was one of the best this season, which IMO shows it must have worked. When you factor in 40mph winds and the fact it was our first game there, with plenty of time this and next season to grow and get more singers across, I'd say it was definitely a postive with lots of potential too! For an England comparison, Palace's group moved down to the bottom left and it was by no means a success in one game, but a few seasons later and it's one of the best home atmospheres in the country now. So a bit like after Appletons first season, a bit of patience and growth good things will come

I think it’s quite funny how people jump on the ultras for bringing a drum but they seem to have been fine with the fact that one of the same ultras has been banging their seat just like a drum all season.
Well done lads, keep the drum if it helps you.

Quick query - as (hopefully) the group grows, what is the plan for those who buy tickets in that top section? Or is it blocked off for ticket sales? Hope everyone gets behind you with it.

I believe that the Ultras in Italy, Germany etc always have drums?

Before the game I would've been horrified at the idea of a drum in the East Stand, however from the North Stand it sounded ok, not too obvious and within reason. Therefore you have my guarded approval so long as it stays where it is and at the current volume and frequency. As an aside, I always used to enjoy the chants from the London Rd, "Beech Road, Beech Road give us a song" and "Osler, Osler give us a song" usually got a response too with "come on you yellows" No harm in the Ultras giving the North and South stands a gentle reminder to start a song or two.

Have those of you with season tickets moved them to that area?
Sounds like a successful first venture. With bigger games ahead and hopefully big cup draws as well as big crowds if we stay in the mix, would hate for any issues to occur as incr asked attendances result in more tickets in that area being bought.

I liked the drum provided a lot of atmosphere probably why the prawn sandwich brigade got a bit uppity. Heaven forbid if flags and smoke bombs became common place too i might not be able to kip through the post half time lull.

As a left sider, I am worried about our lack of noise and atmosphere though. It may have been positive on your side, but it was so quiet on our side! The most important thing is that you guys are being pro active and trying to do something! The drum isn't my cup of tea, but you guys are trying to get it going and improve things! Same with the Yellow Army and their away day at home idea, at least they are taking positive steps to try and influence people for the greater good! Now if we could just get that away day atmosphere going for the NTFC game...

If you want people to be supportive and the idea to grow its probably best not to castigate those that are still warming up to what it can add to their matchday experience. Better to focus on the good things and sell the idea positively?
