Good to see Durns back at the U's next week as a guest - one of my favourite players from the '90's and scored some great goals. He bagged two against Swindon when we beat them 5-3 in March '92.

Remember him scoring in the first minute at Upton park in one of the best games i've ever been to,we lost 5-3 but that was far from the whole story. Also i was ejected from Stamford Bridge after he scored in our 3-1 win in the FA cup,(i was in the home end and the reason given was "it's the only way we can guarantee your safety")

Those were the days! I remember that West ham game. Joey took the p*ss out of Julian Dicks so well that Dicks went over and gave the ad hoardings a kicking.

Brian Horton paid a big fee at the time, £250,000 (a chunk of the Dean Saunders fee we received three/four months earlier).

The game where Paul Reece had an absolute blinder of a game. As for Johnny Lager, never gave less then everything and was a tad feisty. Can't remember the game, but remember him having a running battle with a particular defender and when the officials weren't looking rabbit punched the defender a couple of times in front of the London Road. The London Rd's response was to chant "Ohh, Johnny Lager" with confused officials looking on at the opponent on the floor.

I remember taking a mate to watch a home game. We were behind the Oxford dug out and every time Durnin came near, Horton would be out and screaming at him about something and Durnin was just screaming back at him. My mate still mentions "that nutter Durnin".

He was a regular at the chip shop in Witney near where I used to live. They had pictures of him on the wall. Regularly saw him jog down there to get his dinner.

Yes, a legend sure enough. Once ran into him enjoying a pint of Guinness (sorry, but I'm sure it wasn't lager :-( ) in The Brewhouse one Saturday night, after he'd left OUFC. He'd just scored for Pompey in a victory over S*****n, so I congratulated him on that. "It's always nice to score against S*****n", he replied.
Seem to recall that he took quite a while to get off the mark scoring for OUFC, but once he did, he became a bit of a goal machine.

I used to see him fairly regularly in the Seacourt Arms when he was at Pompey. He was still living in Witney,he was banned from driving (surprise surprise) so he got a young Pompey player with a driving Licence to move in with him and chauffeur him to training. The Seacourt Arms was the stopping off place for a few pints on the way home.

Agreed great game. Remember going one up and the verbals started with the whu fans to our right! Bit lively outside as well.

Yes Briefly... a few words when I got a photo of him and my boy in the Quadrangle reception area. Mainly memories of Tranmere and Luton, staying up and a 4 goal haul 😀
