A crossbow arrow was fired onto the pitch at the Oval from outside the ground yesterday. Extremely dangerous and potentially life threatening,i understand completely the umpires taking the players off the pitch. The Met on being informed, called out an Armed response unit who carried out a controlled evacuation of the ground ! Now in these days of regular terrorist attacks,i understand the safety of crowds attending events is paramount. But this was an arrow not a bomb or a bullet. "A Met Police statement said the incident "is not being treated as terrorism-related" www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cricket/41103549No shit Sherlock, theirs me thinking that the battle against ISIS was being won and they were down to bows and arrows. The match was abandoned, now that sets a precedent, perhaps we should have a whip round and buy one of the BBL bike crew a crossbow, anytime we go behind we fire an arrow onto the pitch and get the match called off.

Thing is though, if you don't evacuate and another bolt comes in and kills someone you are going to be slaughtered in the press.
Having said that, there is a lot of cover at The Oval, so getting the spectators safe would have been straight forward. Dont know how many were in there, probably only a few hundred for a CC match.

Over a 1000 in there for a "big" local derby against Middlesex...

Over a 1000 in there for a "big" local derby against Middlesex... That's because the Surrey lot thought they had a chance of a win... The T20 matches between the 2 were both sell-outs, over 50,000 across the 2 matches. Shame the CC is so poorly attended, but people have to work.

I agree but county cricket died the day they started giving central contracts out in my opinion. No "stars" to see in action anymore, not like the old days, I used to love watching Bothams Somerset and Alan Knotts Kent sides, in fact most of the 1st class sides had notable international players back then.

Yeah I agree, but it was forced in on us as we had gone the best part of 20 years without an ashes win and we ended up following the Australian model. We have gone too far with restricting players from counties though, it needs looking at.
