Video Assisted Replays.
Is being used in Germany,Italy and will be used in next years World cup.
Not being used elsewhere.
I don't agree with it myself,i watched Bayern get a penalty on Friday by VAR,not given by the ref, players crowd around him, game stops, goes upstairs, surprise surprise, the big team gets the decision. I saw it from every angle, defender touches Lewandowski on the shoulder,he goes down like he's been hit by a rampaging bull, not a pen for me.
But thats not my point,if a new rule is implemented, surely it has to be sanctioned by Uefa and Fifa ? So surely it should be every league or none ?
Surely if its being included in next years World cup,we need practice at badgering refs to go to VAR.
I suggest Alex Ferguson gets appointed as Englands VAR first team coach,no team in history can match his Man United team for mass protests at EVERY decision that went against them.

I saw it from every angle, defender touches Lewandowski on the shoulder,he goes down like he's been hit by a rampaging bull, not a pen for me. Except that (the veracity of the penalty notwithstanding, though I think it was one personally) that's not exactly what happened, nor how VAR works in the Bundesliga. There was no "crowding around the ref" after Lewandowski went down, nor pressure on the on-pitch ref to send it upstairs. If the TV ref sees something amiss as in this case, then HE contacts the on-pitch ref, not the other way around (though the on-pitch ref can certainly ask for assistance if necessary, which was not the case here). He was contacted by the TV ref once the ball went out of play, as is also in the rules for the system. Interestingly, the TV referee (also an experienced Bundesliga ref) is sat on the TV with a huge bank of different camera angles in Cologne (and not in the stadium itself). Everyone was full of praise for the system on its first outing certainly.

There can be some awful decisions in football.
I can see no reason why there shouldn't be some help from fourth official using video.
Surely we want as accurate decisions as possible? Sure there will still be some differences of opinion but the point is to get rid of the many clangers that do happen.

Yes but the bad decisions level themselves out over the season & we need something to mull over in the pub after.
All this VAR stuff is just pish and diminishes the responsibility of the referee who sees the moment in real time & calls it as they see fit.
Even this thread shows that two people can see the same moment on replay and come to different conclusions.

I think this is all moving a little too far.
Goal line technology was positively vital because it helps to establish a cold, hard fact. Did the ball cross the line - yes or no? There is no room for interpretation in a decision like that, it either did or it didn't.
When it comes to refereeing decisions, at least in some cases, it's about opinion. What some people deem a foul, others will not. Not every last decision can be definitively claimed as fact. Some, but not all. And this is where it gets a little hazy and potentially dangerous.
Now, if we're talking something like offside, that is something that can definitively be proven one way or the other. That, like goal line technology, deals only in facts. But a good amount of refereeing decisions simply cannot be quantified without bringing personal opinion or preference into it. And that is what makes it a veritable can of worms for the governing bodies going forward.

I agree with Ryan - have technology for things which are clearly and unarguably factual - did the ball go over the line, was it offside etc. But anything which two people can see differently, don't botehr
