1-3 with Pitman getting 2 of the goals.
Too many new players and of unproven ability in this league for us to be able to compete at this stage. IF Pep turns out to have unearthed a few gems from across the globe and IF we can keep the more fragile players fit, then there is a chance things can come together later in the season, He has rolled the dice big time and we will either win big come the end of the season or crash and burn. The odds don't look great right now.
Meanwhile this game is going to come much too early for us though.

We have enough quality to beat any team is this league and we will give Portsmouth a good game tomorrow. I also don't understand how a game can "come too early". I suspect none at a max 1 of these "gems" you speak of wont play tomorrow so we will have a squad together that will know each other and give Portsmouth a good game. You sound like one of the SSU moaners who moan at every mistake.

3-1. Not sure I can predict the side let alone the scorers but think we will see a big reaction from Tuesday night. Hope you're right, scotchers. It's often the way, isn't it? It's kind of an important game, as upcoming away games are tough and we could do with building confidence going into them. The question is whether the dressing room is moulded enough yet to be able to give the reaction you suggest. To that extent - leadership, spirit at - tomorrow will tell us a lot about where we are. For most of mapps time here, we got strong bouncebacks from bad defeats. The only time that didnt really happen was in his first 4 months..... but then he inherited a demoralised squad and didnt have a scouting system in place to make appropriate signings.

Hopefully we will see a reaction. We have a decent spine, and good quality with Payne up top. For me the key will be the first twenty minutes. If we can keep it tight, not concede early we should be ok.
If we concede in front of a big crowd, that's when the likes of Williamson should stand out with his experience to haul us back in it.

Some interesting scores predicted. We're Oldham poor or were we good? We're Cheltenham excellent or were we poor? What will our team even be? New players ready to play or not? Where does Johnson play? Is Martin anywhere near the first team? Will a dog run onto the pitch? How good are Pompey?
Basically nobody has a flipping clue! I say 15-14 With Oxford just sneaking the win after a deflected shot hits a dog that runs onto the pitch, wrong footing the keeper and bobbling into the back of the net. The linesman flags because the dog was in an offside position but is overruled by the ref.

Five goal thriller. 3-2 with Payne, Obika and Henry on the score sheet. Biscuits will reappear in the lounge. The SSU will actually sing in appreciation of this historic event. Life will be good.

Did the game come too early when we smashed them at their place on the opening game a few years ago? If we have genuine ambition this season, we have absolutely nothing to fear from this game.

After Tuesday I'm not feeling confident about this one, and the team look disjointed, so I'm going to go for a 3-1 loss, but hope I'm wrong.
We need a fit and ready left back, another central defender to cover for Raglan (bomb Martin out on loan) and a decent striker to really be contending.
The team I'd go for today is; Eastwood Ribiero, Nelson, Williamson, Ruffles Hall, Ledson, Rothwell, Johnson Thomas, Payne

Biggest game of the season for the Pompey yellows we even have a Pompey fan cadging a lift. Hope the SSU locals arn't to hard on him if he steps out of line.ghink it's going to be a very noisy nervous afternoon, but really hoping the mighty yellows can continue the winning start. A squeaky bum 1:0 win with Pompey giving our goal a battering for the equaliser. COYY A one way lift I hope if the result doesn't go our way!

Looking forward to seeing who Pep selects today. Pekalski has been playing regularly so should be fit and hopefully Ricardinho is fit so Johnson can playfurther forward.
Very difficult game today, hope we can get something from it.

A very strong Pompey side who score a lot of goals. There are going to be periods of the game where we are under prolonged pressure so think our best chance is to play our quickest and most direct frontmen to try and catch them on the break.
Eastwood; Ribeiro, Williamson, Nelson, Carroll; Ledson, Ruffels; Johnson, Payne, Hall; Thomas.
Going to go for a 1-1 with both sides leaving relatively content with a point.

I'd swap hall for Henry as he probably offers a bit more defensive protection to ribs down the right. And obika for Thomas as I thought he looked decent and occupied there large defenders well on Tuesday. Eastwood Ribs belson williamson Carroll Henry lego ruffels Johno Payne Obika Unless of course ricardinhio or kessel are fit

Pompey have a strong attack but their defence doesn't look as strong as it did a week ago. I'll go for a 2-1 Oxford win with Obika and Payne to score for us.

I fancy us to win today, have a feeling this season will be similar to last season, where we play well and pick up good wins against the good footballing teams, and then lose to the teams who play ugly route one football.
2-1 today, with Thomas and Payne scoring the goals. Just short of 11,000 in attendance.

Would prefer to see Obika starting over Thomas, but I suspect we'll see a very similar side to the Oldham line-up.
I'd consider pulling Marv from LB, either further forward or to the bench, dependent on where his head is following all the rumours this week. Putting a more defensively-minded LB in place (Carroll...Ruffels?) gives us the option of putting Hall in too. He was a bright spark of that rather horrible Tuesday night performance.
Slightly concerned at the Ox Mail article this morning saying all the foreign lads still aren't in contention. The list of guys we've signed who can't play gets longer by the week. Understand it might be too early for van Kessel and that Tiendalli/Ricardinho are longer term projects...but not sure why Pekalski can't be involved?

There was a rumour Pekalski got injured in training this week. He's played 18 games for Halmstads tgus season so if he's not involved there could be some truth in that runour. I read something earlier this week where Fazackerly said Ricardinho was 10 days away from being fit. Definitely wouldn't want to play Johnson left back or at all if he's wanting out.
