Rickie lambert is available, get Johno and a decent right winger putting in crosses and hall/maguire sitting just off him could be a real threat. Equally it might really benefit hemming and Thomas to have that sort of player alongside them. Hemmings and roofe both scored more with Taylor doing the dirty work creating them space

Excellent work by DE etc to get this sorted in decent time. As to how good an appointment it will turn out to be - who knows? But I look forward to seeing what he can do with the team and who the additional signings are. Welcome, Pep. Think that this is the right tone. He seems to be a real nice guy and as OUFC manager deserves both our support, encouragement and patience. I don't get that it is an 'ambitious' or 'exciting' appointment. Nor is it an unambitious appointment for that matter. Objectively, on the bald facts of his CV he is fortunate to be getting his chance so high up the pyramid. So it is simply what it is: the applicant who impressed most at interview. And that is good enough for me. Will be interested to see style of play. I saw Leeds live three times last season and they played quite a hard, defensive, direct type of football, with a target man and two defensive midfielders. Not like Swansea at all. Thought it looked quite effective actually. He might be a little more flexible tactically than MAPP, which would be no bad thing. I commented before the appointment that i found Leeds too reliant on nicking a 1-0 rather Wilderesque which was a complete opposite of Swansea, i guess effective to a point providing they scored first..Was hoping this was Monks only choice with what was available rather than his No 2. Whatever the guy deserves total support and afforded time to make his own mark and not have to suffer comparison with Mapp once a results goes against us.

Friends of mine in the game, who know I'm a yellows fan, have all been in touch today saying it's a coup for Oxford and are impressed he's come here. Said before and I will again, he is regarded as one of the best young coaches in Europe. It's a great appointment. There's risk, as there always is, but I think this is a really promising move. Are your friends aware that we are in league 1, not the Conference? Did they expect him to walk straight into a championship job when those are reserved for proven winners? I'm perfectly happy with this appointment, but some of the grovelling going on us really weird and faintly disrespectful to a club that has had some huge names as manager. People were far more questioning of the MAPP appointment, yet we were a mid-table League 2 club. I suspect, slightly pathetically, that it's because pep is from Spain rather than Manchester. None of the above is Pep's fault. I hope that, like wilder and Mapp, his time with us is successful and fruitful. But let's keep perspectivr, both now and if there is a slow start. Build them to knock them down is what happened with Kemp, Wright, Shotton, Rix etc. We were more measured in our response to CJW and MApp and it didn't do them much harm!

Chris Woods needs to follow the ancient Kiwi tradition of signing for Oxford for the educational opportunity, footballer isn't a proper job.

"If it's internal appointment it proves we have no money and it's the cheap option" Well that's that theory out the window.... I wonder what straws people will clutch at to moan now? Obviously we've blown our budget by going for the expensive Johnny Foreigner option. Now we will be stuck with journeyman L2 players to make up the paper thin squad.

Very happy. If you get a chance or have twitter Pep is on there. Taking a look through all his posts it's clear to see why Leeds were so fond of him. He has clearly got an incredible football brain, lots of posts on training, player development and hard work. He also seems to be very well respected in the footballing world. π

Charlie, you need to realise that within the game we aren't seen as a massive club that some of our fans think we are. We are seen as a progressing club that's current level is about right for a club our size. Yes we have potential to grow our fan base and with a bit of money could quite well hold our own in the championship but as it stands we aren't at that stage. We are seen as a club that is a good fit for a young, up and coming coach/manager.

Seems like he impressed the most. Hopefully fluent in English and get some players in. Can you bring Lemar back? He speaks better English than Mapp. It's one of them.

Well well well. A few thoughts today.
Firstly, I'm impressed. Impressed that DE has moved quickly, impressed that the coaching staff have been retained and very impressed that PC actually wants to come and manage us.
Rewind five years. No-one of his calibre would have given us a second look.
Secondly I think DE deserves an enormous amount of credit for this appointment. What with the takeover stuff, the stadium and MApp leaving, he's had a busy summer! Maybe some things haven't gone so well but to attract and appoint someone like PC in little over a week tells me that things are perhaps a bit rosier than we might have thought.
He'll need time. And we need to strengthen. And I think we, as fans, need to chill out a bit. π

Clearly the new man is prepared to buy into the existing management structure so it's a logical appointment. It's a progressive choice for a progressive club.
Can't see him lasting for as long as MAPP if we have any success.
Look at his cv, very peripatetic.

At least it's not a Lampard. Seems a good fit for 'the model' and broadly positive, we'll see.
I'm hoping Mr Clothead can lead us to a promotion prior to the resumption of Pep's peregrinations.

In the honourable tradition of 'keymar roof', can we now all decide how we are going to mispronounce this guy's name? Start of this video for the pronunciation of his name.

First off, I'm glad we have appointed a manager. Hopefully some of the angst and worry can be put aside by some fans and they can concentrate their energy on a promotion campaign instead.
Any signing or managerial appointment is a big, big risk. But I am happy that we followed a process and happy that got our man without having to seemingly work through the list. I am pleased that we appointed Clotet and wish him all the best.
Time to sign some players and get cracking with a promotion campaign

I only ever give an opinion, others call it moaning, don't really care. The ones that get personal not just to me but tothers too have their own problems. They forget we all support the same club, and making it personal is simply pathetic
