Well done to the club for what looks in theory to be a good signing at a good time. Worst thing would have been to drag this out for another few weeks. Also glad we didn't go with Lampard. Looking forward to seeing the man in action. Don't know anything about him. How can you think that this looks like a good signing when you don't know anything about him?? Hedging bets already?

Anything in the role name? Club using term manager where they have been pretty clear as to why they use head coach previously. Not that I think there is much difference

Makes for a good read and a sign of how the management can continue Mapps work in developing players. I will be interested to see which players come in, will they be ones already identified, ones that Pep has on his radar from Leeds and Swansea? Combination of both ought to see some exciting times ahead. If the budget is there to bring in the right people then the model developed of finding, developing and selling for profit should be in good hands. If the budget is there. Time will tell.

The usual suspects on social media whinging and moaning about us having a foreign manager and how it's bad for English football. I say get on board and give the man a chance !

Great appointment! Now let's see him given the resources to build up a squad sized for promotion. ...the monger of doom returns.... Double, double toil and trouble; Fire burn and caldron bubble. Fillet of a fenny snake, In the caldron boil and bake; Eye of newt and toe of frog, Wool of bat and tongue of dog, Adder's fork and blind-worm's sting, Lizard's leg and howlet's wing, For a charm of powerful trouble, Like a hell-broth boil and bubble. Shakespeare innit!

It will be good to concentrate on the player section of these boards again now to see what new faces come in and then on to the matches section again. It's going to get interesting from here on in. The season starts now!

Excellent work by DE etc to get this sorted in decent time.
As to how good an appointment it will turn out to be - who knows? But I look forward to seeing what he can do with the team and who the additional signings are.
Welcome, Pep.

Just reading his Wikipedia entry, he doesn't seem to hang around very long at clubs.
Let's enjoy him while we can.

Hopefully Pep will be a successful manager.
There is no doubt that his coaching skills are excellent.
What concerns me ia bit is that his management skills have not been great when he has been a number 1
let's hope his time at OUFC will show he can become a great coach tactician and manager

The hipster football fans favourite has praised him? Well that's enough for me, pass us the Canon Division 3 title now, it's as good as won. Half kidding but let's hope he is as good as the hype, although probably happiest to hear he is a bit of a disciplinarian who likes hard work and doesn't take any shit off some Leeds fans. English, Spanish or Micronesian being a manager isn't any different, build a committed, organised, fit and hard working team then go from there, Appleton got us playing good football but he also built a team that worked hard and didn't allow slackers, more of the same will do me.

Well that's that theory out the window.... I wonder what straws people will clutch at to moan now?

But I look forward to seeing what he can do with the team and who the additional signings are. Welcome, Pep. Think that this is the right tone. He seems to be a real nice guy and as OUFC manager deserves both our support, encouragement and patience. I don't get that it is an 'ambitious' or 'exciting' appointment. Nor is it an unambitious appointment for that matter. Objectively, on the bald facts of his CV he is fortunate to be getting his chance so high up the pyramid. So it is simply what it is: the applicant who impressed most at interview. And that is good enough for me. Will be interested to see style of play. I saw Leeds live three times last season and they played quite a hard, defensive, direct type of football, with a target man and two defensive midfielders. Not like Swansea at all. Thought it looked quite effective actually. He might be a little more flexible tactically than MAPP, which would be no bad thing.

Friends of mine in the game, who know I'm a yellows fan, have all been in touch today saying it's a coup for Oxford and are impressed he's come here.
Said before and I will again, he is regarded as one of the best young coaches in Europe. It's a great appointment. There's risk, as there always is, but I think this is a really promising move.

I would love a good target man here, so if he brings in an effective one and we use him well then you will get no complaints from me. If Johnson stays having the best crosser of the ball in the division would be so much more pleasurable to watch with a physical presence up top. I think the people expecting tika taka might be in for a shock, but the 3 teams that went up last season from this division fit your description of Leeds so that could well be a profitable approach, plus it should see us able to beat the scrappy no mark sides that were fortunate enough to be promoted up with us a year and a bit a go.
