We used to have a great stewarding team back at the Manor, I worked mostly at the Cuckoo Lane and it was a TEAM but after one season at the new ground it was all different, people moved to different areas and the team split.. I left and got a S/ T after that. Over the last few years it seems to have got worse and Kev was one of the few old guard left. If the OP is right it's a shoddy way to treat someone, 35 years, I managed 17 ,

Stewarding has changed since the Manor days. Its far more regulated than ever before,my son did security at Glastonbury last week and as well as all the legal bumf involved,he also had to have a medical, before being allowed on site ! In no way am i backing the club in the shoddy way Kev got his marching orders(heard about this from a different source a couple of days ago) but maybe their are some legal reasons for the decision ?

Seems odd, as the club advertised for OUFC fans to apply as stewards just last month?

Did they give a reason for letting him go?

I remember him when he used to run the line for star royal back in the late nineties/early noughties, a good bloke and massive Oxford fan, strange decision but the whole stewarding thing is a mess, a bunch of wannabe bouncers who enjoy throwing their weight about against people who won't fight back but got battered and shit themselves against Millwall in the JPT have been bought in by the Swindon twats security company. It will all end in tears eventually where as proper Oxford fans know the score these outsiders are clueless.

My old man used to work with Kevin. Top bloke. I worked with Kevin some years back now....top bloke as concretebob says, and OUFC through n through..... 'we are actively rectruiting our own stewards' announced the powers that be at OUFC in the aftermath of flag and balloon gate, therefore its strange that the powers that be dispense with one of the most experienced OUFC stewards, and in such an impersonal way

Don't know the facts, but on face value seems like a money saving decision. Stewards are on minimal wage at best I'd imagine so I would question how much if anything is being saved. My guess is that those in charge of stewarding are looking at agency staff who will be trained (potentially) to a higher standard. It would mean getting all the stewards from one place rather than having a group of fans stepping in to the role. Not right, but not cost cutting or personal in my view.
