Without answering any real points up in the air, and snuggly, comfy sound bytes coming from the club, what has really changed in a week where we lost our manager.
Eales states the obvious that we need to appoint a manager, and that 50 applications have been received, but doesn't seem to grasp how quickly we need to get someone in post. Obviously you need the right candidate, and that could be someone in work, a second in command or a first in command. Does not poaching a manager from another club point to cheap? Hope not. Why should we worry if we take someone else's boss, did Leicester think twice before approaching Appleton? Of course not.
We are losing targeted players because of the mess we are in, yet Eales seems to think that he has all the time in the world to sift through CV's etc, when the truth is 5 or so weeks away the season starts.
They go to Portugal in a couple of weeks with a 5 a side squad of 15 or so, that could genuinely play in a first division team.
It is something that will start a chain of events, that should lead to a squad of 22/23 players ready for the first game of the season.
Appoint a manager, he gets time/funds to bring in players, then has a very short pre-season to gel, and decide on systems that will be played.
Clearly there are managers out there in post, who could slot into the vacancy position. They will need to compensate the host club, but we got compensation from Leicester that could be used. Partick's Archibald? Simple approach the club, it takes a simple phone call.
eales would have had his eye on someone, knowing Appleton was going to be leaving.
We can't afford to wait for 2 weeks to appoint a new manager, and it doesn't have to take 2 weeks.
Maybe soon, eales and the club will tell fans something substantive, and not put out obvious warm and cosy sound bytes that they think will appease the fans. We need to get the right candidate into post, for the chain of events to get rolling, to get players, and allow an experienced manager to have some sort of pre-season.
