It's all getting rather hysterical, isn't it? Reasonable questions are asked, that's all, and it's interpreted as 'painting an unfavourable picture' and 'vilification by innuendo'. Arthur suggests Myles ('and others') put up or shut up. Well Myles has 'put up'. He's put up questions that any supporter should want to know the answer to. This is a f*cking discussion forum. A few people are trying to shut down debate, including closing certain threads, because they feel Mr Eales is above criticism and nothing going on at the club should even be challenged. No chairman will ever be above questioning by paying punters. I have no problem with questions being asked and I agree with what you're saying. But I suspect some posters on here are friendly with people in the group trying to buy the club from Eales, and it would be advantageous for that group if the fan base took a dim view of Eales. So, even though Myles does ask some valid questions, I'm taking his posts with a pinch of salt because I'm not sure if his intentions are what's best for the club, or what's best for his mate. What a load of bollocks.

I would like to remind people that things are seldom black and white in complex situations such as these. The danger of polarisation is that it neglects the bit in the middle, generally termed grey. I have found some of Myles' posts irritatingly conspiratorial and lacking in substantive evidence. There has been a good deal of 'suggestion' but without actually disclosing that which he alludes to know. And then, I think about why this might be (the grey bit) Myles is an intelligent and articulate poster who clearly cares a very great deal about the club and who I regard as someone with integrity. It is the fact that he takes the time to pose the questions which captures my interest, and I takes his comments seriously inasmuch as I think that there is a good deal we are not privy to and Myles, I believe, may have something of an inside track on these things.
That said, I have an open mind where DE is concerned and generally I am very happy with his stewardship so far. I have expressed the view that I trust him and and have no reason to doubt his intentions. I have also said that I would retract my expressed support in the event that my trust was misplaced. Thus far I don't feel my it is, and neither will I buy into the Eales is all good/all bad polarisation game. I am deeply disappointed at the loss of such a remarkable man who is without doubt an incredible and unique role model in today's football world. His humility and integrity are rare and very much appreciated and he will be greatly missed. I wont however, play a blame game where Darryl Eales is concerned in respect of Michael Appleton's departure/career progression, that's too easy and frankly, lazy.
I continue to hold the view that Daryl Eales is committed to the success of the club until I see otherwise. Myles, you are very welcome to reply.

Just out of interest, could someone with access to Twitter (I don't do it) summarise the spat between 'Muzzy'' (who is apparently writing on behalf of Mr Eales) and OxVox this evening?
Apparently it's nothing that shouldn't be repeated here, but I'm not sure exactly what 'it' is. Ta.

So you don't use twitter but you've somehow heard about it and surprise, surprise you can still tell us that Muzzy is writing on behalf of Eales and it reinforces the 'spat' between Eales and Oxvox. For someone who spends so long on here talking about open debate them maybe you should do your own research before going on a wind up. Well if you need the help here it is. All I did was google your information... twitter.com/gaffamuzzy

I don't think that Myles Francis's OP was conspiratorial. He has posed questions which may or may not have merit. He hasn't banged on about private stuff, has stuck to more or less known facts and said that he has a problem with some of the situation as is. It is fine to disagree with him. He is basically, from my long acquaintance with him, one of these disputatious people who one inevitably ends up disagreeing with a lot of the time. I remember a long cold and occasionally heated war that he and I had over F Kassam around the turn of the century. I bring that one up because I was right!, but there have been other times when he has been right and I have been wrong. The conspiratorial people are those who - unlike me, Myles, Jem, Colin, Bradbury, Barson, Sennett, Stew Donald and most others who actually do positive things for OUFC - hide behind their 'handles' to peddle agendas and conspiracies where none exist. Who routinely attack the elected officials of OxVox from behind their keyboard but are oddly absent when time comes for candidates to stand for election. These divisive individuals want to paint the world in black and white and try to drive wedges between our OUFC family. Fortunately that family has very deep roots. Most of us go back a very, very long way. I met the Bradbury brothers first in the early 90s on the London Road. Jem and Myles not long after. Jerome in the mid-90s when I was a student radio reporter he kindly gave lifts to in the BBC radio car. Sennett when I was made to go and see him by Ian Lenagan six or seven years ago. I could go on.... We all love OUFC, but argue and row and go red in the face just like in all families, whilst always knowing that there's not much we can do, because we'll all still be here (health allowing, John Evans RIP) for years to come. I haven't posted on the takeover saga because I had some minor role in it. I explained what that role was, very early on in the piece, and then kept my counsel. If there had been any 'conspiracy' to promote that bid, then surely the plot would have been enacted before, rather than after, the bid ceased to exist! There is no plot, no conspiracy. Just a bunch of disparate people who have bled yellow and blue for decades and who disagree entirely openly on all sorts of things. I'd urge the forum flibbertigibbets like Finlandia and Scotch Egg to declare who they are, mix with the OUFC family and roll their sleeves up and do something positive for the club. It's amazing how once you've rattled buckets with someone then even 25 years later you can disagree with them wholeheartedly whilst still knowing that their heart is in the right place. Though I have to admit that I would draw the line at sitting on the stadium health and safety committee with Myles unless I was suffering from extreme insomnia.

Though I have to admit that I would draw the line at sitting on the stadium health and safety committee with Myles unless I was suffering from extreme insomnia. As I've been called out by Charlie I think it is only right that I respond! Flibbertigibbets?! Nice!! Yes, I do share my view on here when I get the chance and it may very well be against the views of many others. However it often surprises me how those who are quick to say that difficult questions must be asked get the most upset when questions are asked of them. As you have mentioned me directly, can I ask you to please pick an example of one point (just one) that does not have some validity? Because you were involved in the counter bid to DE and had some involvement in the recent bid, it is reasonable to question your impartiality on such matters. Now I will be the first to acknowledge that you have distanced yourself from discussions during this time, and that is honourable in the circumstances. Myles however was very vocal in support of your previous bid and made some discrediting comments about DE at the time. He reappears at the same time as the current takeover and repeats this stance. Now of course, he may be exactly right. But is it not reasonable to question his motives? The vast majority of things we are discussing are not in the public domain. Takeover, budgets etc. So many of the arguments on every side are based on speculation alone. We are now in the situation if one person's speculation is better than another's (God, I hate the closed season!). But none of this is about who cares the most. You have a habit of trying to be divisive (whether this is intended or not). You listed those people who have done fantastic work for the club, but we all do what we can in the circumstances we find ourselves. As for who I am, I have never hidden away from people knowing me and have frequently identified myself to those I have messaged directly. As a manager in the Prison Service I have to be aware of not putting myself in a compromising position which is why I use a tag name, but many people will know who I am and how long I have been watching Oxford United. I have even spoken with OxVox and would have loved to have played a bigger role but having recently started a new job and with a one year old at home, my time in limited. But please do not think that means I do not care. So thank you for adding to this discussion, but I am sure you will accept that even with the connections you have, we still have no more facts to work with. I, as you and everyone else on here, hope for some positive news in the coming weeks so we can focus on the coming season. I am still hopefully that we can get Jack Midson back so we can have some REAL discussions, in fact how old is Matt Murphy these days???!!!

Given you appear to be a fairly good judge of charactor and clearly along with a few others were bang on the money re Kassam, what impressed you about Juan Sartori and convinced you enough that he could be the Right man to oversee the club that you assisted in his introduction to Darryl?

I have no problem with questions being asked and I agree with what you're saying. You say you have no problem with questioning Eales then slur one person with a jib about 'his intentions'. Then you include a bunch of long-time posters as "friendly with people in the group trying to buy the club from Eales" and spinning against him. Here's the news; many of those posters have been around years unlike the Sartori group which won't be back ever since Eales cost them money to do due diligence then fucked them over. It's people who ask questions that have the interest of the club at heart, not hot-dog mercenaries and dreamers who are afraid any questions might show that the idol they've put their trust in has feet of clay.

Surely this is exactly the right place for debate and questions to be asked as we don't have the opportunity to ask them at a fans forum and they haven't been publicly debated by OxVox. This shouldn't be a case of personalities or a witch hunt against anyone as surely as Oxford fans we are all on the same side - supporting the club we all love. People can accuse Myles, Scotchegg, Finlandia or anyone of having agenda but whatever your views are certain things are facts and they need to be addressed IMHO. These include the following facts:
1) We have the four key positions at the football club vacant (some have been for a while) these include manager, MD, head of academy and head of commercial 2) Darryl has admitted he can't get a stadium deal done and can't deal with Kassam 3) We only have roughly 15 first teamers under contract as pre season begins 4) We have a debt level of roughly £12m 5) Darryl has invested £8M into the club as he openly admits 6) Appleton spoke many times about his commitment to the club while it matched is ambitions 7) Still no long term solution to the training ground saga (shown just today by the likely 6 months extra at BMW)
Questions around these areas are more than valid. Where will we be having a perm training ground, how can we reunite the club and stadium, why has debt been ported, when will an MD, manager, Head of Academy and Head of commercial be appointed, why are relations with Kassam so poor, what is the long and medium term plan for the club (as the board said it was vital that Oxvox got heads of terms this summer and that hasn't been possible).
If Swindon town had all four key management positions at their club left vacant, only 15 first team players under contract moving into pre season, a legal battle with their landlord, the owner admitting he cant get a stadium deal done, no training ground from Dec or June, and £12m of debt we'd be calling them a crisis club and many of our fans would point and laugh. So this isn't an attack on any individual it's genuine concerns based on facts. What is the plan is a very apt title for this thread as currently we know the board had a key vision for the club with Appleton crucial to it and apparently now so is getting the ground under the control of the club. So as that's now gone or not possible what is the plan?

But Paul, more to the Sartori story seems to be slowly coming out,
SARTORI: “Oxford was a special project because it had been brought to me by a group of local people that I wanted to involve.
“I thought we could do a good job with those people." ---- Read into that what you like, but it seems to be more than just Sartori being put in contact with Eales.

Just to forestall hapless speculation and the never-ending conspiracy theories. Juan Sartori, as I have made clear on this forum before, is a very long-standing client of mine. In February, he mentioned to me, apropos of nothing, that having made his fortune - and having spent quite a lot of time over the last two years on the AC Monaco project with his father-in-law - he had an ambition to take, and I quote: "An English club with potential up to the Premier League, using my money and the things I have learned from the Monaco experience." He had no idea of my club allegiance (though we have been to international games before). I introduced him to another long-standing business friend, Stew Donald, who then introduced him to OUFC owner. Stew and I then introduced him to various other locally-based people that we thought could be of use to him (legal, commercial, financial, conferencing etc). They - together with the Monaco lot on the football side - then did the research, the business plan etc. There is no plot. There never was one. If anyone on this forum had a super-wealthy acquaintance who wanted to plough £20 million plus into a football club, I bet they'd try to persuade him that OUFC was the right place to spend that money! Stewart, as always, was just super helpful and encouraging. As, but only once it became clear that Sartori had reached a late stage of the process, were OxVox's leadership with regards to stadium issues. No-one has done one single thing that wasn't done with the interests of OUFC at heart. I haven't been on this forum for months because of my minor (though fairly critical!) involvement. But I can see where this is all going and I don't like it. Sometimes, you know, the truth is a whole lot more simple than dark plots and dastardly conspiracies. One last thing. There can be NO conspiracy to eject an owner of a private business. It is not a quoted company, subject to aggressive takeover tactics. It was, is and always will be Darryl Eales' club to do what he wants with, unless and until he decides that he does want to sell. There is NO conspiracy that can change UK company law. I really hope that this can put to rest all the speculation about the Sartori bid.

Anyway, the plan seems to be to try and keep things ticking over without committing any major long term expenditure. I guess a combination of having to fund this whilst perhaps still looking at The Project as being to cash in on the club at some point perhaps sooner rather than later.
Going back to the analogy of a house being up for sale (or at least open to offers), you don't spend a fortune on kitchens and bathrooms which a new owner many want to do differently and almost certainly wouldn't add to the value of the house what you've paid, but you may paint the rooms plain beige.
Picking off a few examples:- Training ground - 99% hopeful of an extension on existing facilities and a Brookes tie-in but no real news on a CPF development. A new owner may want to buy their own dedicated facilities, and therefore spending significant money at CPF would be sunk. Academy - I'm not convinced there is much of a future for academies below EPL / top half championship level, let alone in L1. The Premier League academies now attract the best young players under EPPP and they have so many 'spare' young players that I see the pattern of long term loans continuing. That's not the answer many want, but I suspect this is what will be seen more and more. The other tactic is finding the non-league / scottish or irish players who are under the radar here. Manager - a buy-out often leads to a new manager and team. So perhaps a Waddock type cheap replacement is what we can expect rather than paying off another club.

Not sure that Swindon Town is a good comparison. They have no permanent training facilities, rent their stadium which has no chance of being upgraded by the local council and no incentive for an owner to buy it due to a covenant that only allows the ground to be used for sporting purposes. They have an owner who lives abroad and likes to run everything at the.club including picking jthe team at one point last season. At present they only have 11 contracted senior players and are in League 2. Our current situation is a cause for concern and like others on this thread I would like to know more from DE about the issues being debated. However we are still in League one, have the core of a strong squad of players and are still viewed as an attractive proposition for any prospective buyers. Despite our difficulties I am sure there are many more clubs worse off than ourselves.

Right now, I mean now now not any I can think of. New season just around the corner and no manager at this critical time. We are in so much trouble I would not be surprised if we are relegated. Of course there is still time but this is now time for Eales to show what he's really about. You can have
5/2 with me how much you want on? You cant be very confident given its 20/1 at the bookies

I am prepared to put money on also that won't happen. Eastwood Ribeiro Nelson Raglan Carroll Hall Ledson Lundstrom Johnson Hemmings Thomas Not great upfront, but does that seriously look like a relegation side? Presumably there will be 4-5 new signings to boost upfront as well.
