Darryl,
There was a time when I believe you used to frequent the forum, and perhaps that is still the case. In light of all the speculation and knee jerk reactions I thought I would attempt to cut through that and offer sentiments which I know are shared by plenty.
You have overseen a most enjoyable period in my cherished club's history and for this we will all be forever grateful. That away day in Carlisle in our promotion season being one I'll never forget. You have put your hand in your pocket and brought in some of the most fantastic football players to have ever put on a yellow shirt. You've sung along with us on the terraces on cold nights in Accrington and i think in light of all the speculation people have forgotten what a genuinely fantastic chairman you've been to us fans over the past few years.
The news of our manager's imminent departure has caused plenty of speculation among the fans about goings on at the club, and plenty of it unjustified no doubt. The context however is that Oxford United FC and the supporters are restlessly ambitious. 'We once won the Milk Cup don't you know!?' and we're hungry to taste those heights again, or at least see how far we can go. The consensus, and general feeling about the underwhelming departure of our manager (who we'd have no doubt been happier to see get a #1 job at a bigger club) is that whilst you have helped us realise some of these ambitions and provided us with weekend after weekend of joy, the club's ambitions are now outgrowing your realistic ability to satisfy them.
Only you can know for sure if this is the case, and I'd like you to reflect honestly on it. We know you love our football club, you don't turn down a high profile offer from a seemingly well-intentioned billionaire if you didn't. But if you're struggling to keep to the statements you may have been pressured into making, please assess where you're at and whether your means can accommodate our ambition. If not, then please don't block the path you helped revive, move aside for someone in a better position to help us realise our dreams and join us for the journey as a fan of our wonderful football club.
Regards,
Your average yellow
