1 Mapp genuinely thinks it's a great career move.
2 he'd been planning close season deals under the impression Sartori was taking over. When De pulled the plug at the last minute, enough was enough. The Jan transfer window, the drain on staff, wrangling over a top 6 budget, stadium farce and de's issues meant that the 'due diligence' he has consistently talked about was actually more relevant in his current job
3 it's a smokescreen to put pressure on de to cough up.
I think you can probably guess which one I think is most likely

As others have said I think they have definitely offered him something, whether the £500k figure is true who knows.
Oxford Mail said he didn't say goodbyes or anything, and I think I read somewhere he's had a meeting with Daryl?
I'm sure Daryl will be prepared to offer him improved terms so we will just have to wait until Monday by which time hopefully MA has made a decision.

If DE isnt going to increase the budget then he might aswell sell up in my opinion. He said he wants to do whats best for Oxford United. We will very easily go from Promotion contenders to Relegation candidates if Eales doesnt make the right decision. Sell up if you cant give the top 6 budget and sell to somebody who can do whats best for Oxford. If we lose Appleton and he doesn't sell up then i can see it now "to thank the fans for sticking by the club through this hard time for the club i am going to buy them a Hotdog and Beer" this is his way in trying to get him on his side.

There are a couple of things running through my head, neither of which are positive. 1 - he's said he's off and they are just waiting for the paperwork to be done before announcing. 2 - DE has made MApp and offer and he's mulling it over. If he'd agreed to stay I'm pretty sure we'd know by now.
Couldn't blame MApp for going. It's great money and a chance to work with Prem players again. He's only one step away from another shot at the Premier League. Hope he stays though, he's done a tremendous job.

Or when Shakespeare is sacked 3 months in to the season one step away from the dole queue!

One step away, with a three year contract on big money. Not a bad settlement to have in your pocket

I think there is a definite offer on the table.
MApp will be thinking over the options. I suspect his confidence in DE has been sorely tested this summer (not entirely DE's fault) and I'd be very, very surprised if he's still our manager this time next week.
Where does this leave us? Substantially weaker. Regardless of the pulling power of MApp to new players, I suspect a number of our current players would be very unsettled by this also.
DE is in for a pretty tough couple of months I think.

Cue Sartori waiting in the wings for OUFC starting to unravel? Just when it was becoming the most boring close season in history, this happens. Can we go back to boring please?

I'm sure Daryl will be prepared to offer him improved terms so we will just have to wait until Monday by which time hopefully MA has made a decision. To my mind those improved terms are going to be less to do with salary and more to do with ambition, which means that the salary figures being banded around at Leicester are possibly irrelevant. If DE has lost Mapps confidence in his ability or ambition to take the club forward with sufficient playing budget then why would Mapp stick around treading water? If they are now seeing the future very differently this is only going to go one way. If on the other had they can work something out that is agreeable then I could see Mapp staying to fulfil his own potential with Oxford. That being the case (and if it is a success) he will no doubt have many more options/better options on the table in the future. So as I see it it's vey simple. Mapp gets the support he feels is sufficient to work with, or he walks. And good luck to him if he does.
