Not often myself & Mrs M go somewhere for sun, sand & relaxation and there is a game on that "tweaks" my interest, but as we were in Gran Canaria and Barca were "in town" at Las Palmas I took the opportunity to attend, much less fraught than my previous foreign football experiences. Match ticket: £26 Local "Football Special" Coach ticket from near the hotel: £8 return.Roughly 47km each way. Few pints of beer & grub: £10 Home shirt (nice colours!!) £22. Barca absolutely cruised it....... they were nearly as good as us!! Some bloke called Neymar scored a hat-trick, Suarez got the other and some bloke called Messi can play a bit as well!! It really was "different gravy"!! Attendance was about 21k or so, weather was lovely! www.youtube.com/watch?v=tXPJMkGKucw

I went to Malta on holiday in 1983 with the ex missus. Rangers just happened to be playing Valletta in the UEFA cup while we were there, she was convinced i'd arranged everything despite the fact we booked the holiday months before the draw was made. Mind you she wasn't a very understanding woman,i went to Wimbledon on Boxing day 86 and for some reason she demanded a divorce when i got back on the 2nd of January.

Had a similar experience in Malta 1987, turned up to find out that Valetta were playing Juventus, I think Valleta got spanked 0-4 but it was a great experience, I think Michael Laudrup and Ian Rush were in the team at the time.

Went to watch Tenerife against Xerez around 2003/04 time. 6 euros to get in and the ground had about 200 seagulls flying over it.

Here in Malaysia and Singapore the leagues are still going so we can get our football fix. This weekend I flew down to watch Geylang VS my second team Hougang United. Went with two fellow Yellows, James and Paul. Good game, 1-1 with my Hougang all over Geylang then vice versa in the second half. Good crowd of 1500 with even a bit of police presence at the end including K9 unit. There is a good guy here in Asia who does a lot of Vlogs on Asian football. youtu.be/TITCC39bADs

Always try and fit in a bit of footy whenever I'm away:
Asia Cup: Singapore vs Qatar in 1988 Dukla Prague vs Pribram Heracles Almelo vs Waalwijk Espanyol vs Getafe Viktoria Zizkov vs Vysocina Jihlava
In Tallinn this summer, hope there's a friendly on...don't think the league will have started yet.

I was working in France in 92 when the Euros were on,was out there for 2 Months. 4 of us in a hotel with a nightclub attached to it. Spent most nights in the nightclub so got to know the owner quite well. France played England on a Sunday afternoon(the game when Boli headbutted Stuart Pearce),the manager invited us round to watch the game on the big screens in the club . When we got there,he gave us 4 crates of 1664 and left us to it(he was a rugby man) a surreal experience,4 English lads all on our own,sat in a nightclub in deepest rural France, watching football on a Sunday afternoon,he came back with ten minutes to go and gave us some more free beer. P.S.We obviously watched all the games on French TV,the great Keith Curle was in the England team, the French commentator throughout the tournament pronounced his name as "Curly" Even now 25 years later, when i see him on TV i think of him as Keith Curly. P.P.S. Canal + had(have) a porn channel, back in the day that was unheard of in England, every morning it was "did you see that Porn movie on Canal + last night ?" After 3 or 4 weeks,"did you watch the porn channel last night ?" "naw watched a re run of the Sweeney with sub-titles" funny as watching Reagan say We're the Sweeney your nicked, in French !"
