If your comments are serious you are a moron. If you are a troll, you are a moron. You're a moron. No need to demonstrate your tangible lack of understanding by becoming aggressive and personal. Sometimes when people think you are an idiot its best to remain silent rather than say something and remove all doubt.
I have my opinion as you have yours, no need to spit your dummy out.... so wind your neck in and post a sensible response to my sensible post of why you don't agree with me.
Mapp will not take this club any further than we are currently imo ( unless there is a miracle in the remaining fixtures and if there is I will be the first to shake his hand ) and I'm confident we will be having this same conversation in 12 months time....
In the meantime use your time wisely to learn some new words...
Just can't agree with you. I don't see how you can make an assumption that he has taken us as far as he can? Tactically he's not perfect but he is the best manager we have had for 30 years and i for one am prepared to give him next season and perhaps more to see how we get on. I enjoy the football his teams play and am proud to say he is our manager. That doesn't mean to say I don't get frustrated. Of course I do, never more so than on Sunday. No criticism of DE but I'm not sure the budget has quite been there for MAPP for a while because of all the upheaval going on around the stadium. I know I wouldn't want to invest with that kind of uncertainty hanging over the club. If I remember one of your earlier posts you have only just begun supporting OUFC in the last season or two. I think if you had been through the ups and downs of the last 30 years like many have on this forum then you would see MAPP for what he is - a man to be respected who has given this football club a new sense of purpose and hope. Sermon ends...

Were you saying any of this when we lost one game between 13 November and 13 January? And followed up that loss at Wimbledon with another month-long unbeaten streak, including a 4-0 win at a team that had won 10 on the spin at home, a 3-0 win over a newcastle side walking the championship, and another win at the Scum? Didn't think so. We have a small squad. They're obviously exhausted. Our form has suffered. What you are saying has no rational basis whatsoever.

The only criticism I'd have of MAPP this year is the squad has too many central midfielders and wingers in it, which has cost us towards the end of the season. Strange, other than to get attention, to say he's taken us as far as he can. I agree with you in the midfielders, we have far too many but I feel some players haven't shown their potential as the coaching staff would expect. Rothwell being one, Sercs being another. I would say IMO we are short of a winger (Macca leaving might of been a mistake) as really we only have Hall and Johnson as our and our wingers. As for strikers then I think Thomas getting injured has been a massive loss. People write him off but I honestly think he would of made a difference. Hemmings hasn't reached his full potential yet and I think next season he will become a better player for us now he understands the way MApp wants to play and the league as a whole. Overall I am over the moon with this season. We can finish in the top half, have had an excellent FA cup run, a Wembley day out and some great days out (Bolton, Boro, Swindon). We are 6 players short to being a team challenging for promotion. It took us 6 years to get out of league 2. If it takes 2 or 3 to go up again then I'll be happy with that.

Promotion and a cup final, followed by a solid league position, the 5th round of the FA Cup and another cup final. Yeah, that Appleton has a lot to answer for.
Oh dear... some people.

So, Season Over then. Still - It was a good 'un over all. We've done more than consolidate in the third tier, we've been on the fringes of playoff contention. Wembley. 5th Round of the Cup. Hopefully MApp will now use the last five games to take a deeper look at some of the fringe members of the squad and begin to plan for next year in earnest. And we can get to hoping that some interesting clubs get relegated/promoted into our division whilst some boring ones (and the Scum) depart. Even though I have a few mates who are Forest fans, I'm secretly hoping they go (come?) down.

No quite serious my friend ..Mapps a good Manager, but destined to ply his trade in the lower divisions as are the majority of this current squad. This level is proliferate with Managers of a similar level of ability and they do a sterling job. However, if a club like Oxford with a potential support catchment the size it has, has aspirations of Championship or even Premiership football ( and there's no reason why it shouldn't ) the right man is required.
It has always amazed me why many football league clubs seem to have a lack of understanding that obtaining the signature of the best manager available for the budget seems significantly less important than the moniker of a top striker.
Mapps done the best he can but his limitations and tactical ability are not commensurate with the potential of this club and quite frankly insufficient to get us any further.
If your comments are serious you are a moron. If you are a troll, you are a moron. You're a moron. I think you missed out the word "ergo"

He has taken the club as far as he can is what all fans say to justify that they enjoy the bloodsport of getting rid of managers more than the game itself. People used to say it about a certain peer of the realm who is one win away from promotion after tonight. Appleton will get a top half finish in his first season after promotion, he has done enough to be the manager next season.

Wasn't there tonight, Jerome, but some really weird posts tonight. Winning tonight after the emotional and physical exhaustion would have been remarkable. Does anyone doubt that we'd be a few points better off without the cup runs? But those cup runs have brought in a million quid and thus will better enable us to do better than would otherwise be the case in the summer. And those cup runs - and the million quid - have been enabled by the manager's use of a competitive but limited budget. Taken in the round he has done a 7 or 8 out of ten job. That is well good enough for me. He is not beyond friendly constructive criticism- we've somehow ended up with four right backs and one rickety left back. And I suspect he has a bit to learn about how to change the direction of a match once it has started. And we are clearly susceptible to a rough tough approach. But set that against quality coaching, improvement of players, man-management etc and he is clearly in credit taken in the round. Financially he has been a big success for the club and that is an important part of any management of any business. Oh, and he is a thoroughly likeable, decent man. And that is not an insignificant point when one sees the cynical low-class asses who regularly inhabit our opponents dug-out.

Jesus I'm pretty negative most of the time but I wonder how some of you lot ever enjoy being a football fan. You based your assumption on one thing I've said, that's quiet a gift you have to characterise me from that. ... for the record I'm upbeat most of the time. But facts are facts and they can't be argued with. I'm not one to buy into forum politics, or concern myself with the stigma of being called a " troll " for having an opinion. That is the cool thing to do right ? As I said can't argue with fact. We're a thin squad that looking tired and disjointed with some concerning cracks appearing on and off the pitch. Getting promoted last year if someone would of said we'd get to the 5 th round of the fa cup, the elf trophy final and flirt with the play offs I'd of snapped your hand off. It's the circumstances and the way we've lost the games. As austin powers once said, we seem to have lost our mojo. I can accept criticism of the team and the performance - I'm often one of the first to criticise. But come on, most of the team leaving over the summer? Do you have no hope that our previously rather successful recruitment processes might not be able to replace players like Hemmings and Dunkley? If you had said what I highlighted in bold there, I would have agreed with you. Good comment. But doom-mongering about next season already before we even know who is going out/coming in? Bit melodramatic.

I cannot belive people are questioning whether Mapp should be our manager next season. As others have rightly pointed out last seasons promotion and cup final, coupled with this seasons grand efforts should without doubt ensure he is here for the next season at least. The only way he will not be here in my opinion is if he walks away. Personally I wouldn't want any other manager to be leading us out come August. Let's be realistic we've had a really good season for a newly promoted club.

Don't think we were anywhere as good as some seem to. Yes, we had lots of the ball and Fleetwood despite the score line did not look good at all, but we didn't threaten. We weren't getting down the sides, working opportunities, taking shots... how many shots on target did we have all night? There was no penetration; no guile or cutting edge. It was tippy tappy sideways football that was completely ineffective. Being impressed by that is the equivalent of being amazed at bright lights or shiny things. We didn't ACTUALLY do anything, it was largely pointless and unthreatening possession. Did their goalkeeper make a save in 90 minutes? I hand on heart can not remember him making a save. There was not one "ohhhhh that was close" moment in the entire game that I can recall, or a moment when their keeper tips one over the bar or around the post. Nelson scored a goal from six yards out when he was offside and the ball cannoned into his path. That is it. We created virtually nothing, AGAIN, in the entire game. How can you play well when their goalkeeper doesn't make a save and you ship three goals? How is that good? How is that promising? We created absolutely nothing of any value what so ever.
Furthermore, I would like our manager to occasionally do something during a game. I'm sick and tired of seeing opposition coaches, whether a team is high or low in the table, spending the entire game dishing out instructions, calling people over, shouting, gesticulating, moving people around and trying to actually impact the game, while Appleton stands with his hands in his pocket saying and doing nothing. I'm not saying this in an 'Appleton Out' manner, I'm saying it because I think it's fair and because I think everybody can improve. Players aren't the only ones who have to evolve and grow; Michael Appleton needs to learn how to affect games and motivate from the sidelines. He needs to be proactive and dynamic and move players around the pitch and take games by the scruff of the neck. You can't manage a game at half time alone. Our home form this season has been relegation levels of poor - I'm certain it'd be right down in the twenties in a table of home points taken. It isn't good enough.
When the dust settles this will be a promising season. We will almost certainly finish top half with some memorable cup runs again and some decent money in the bank. We are still a good four or five players short and that's merely as things stand without people moving on, but there's reason to be optimistic. Fine, not a problem. I can live with that. This is all just fine. But we have to wise up and toughen up and that applies to the dugout AND the pitch alike. We started the season shockingly and at this rate the last ten league games of the season or so will be equally poor. It's all good and well having a mid-season run but if we start and end the season badly you have to be very careful about where you truly think you are.
Ultimately, we now know for sure where we'll be next season and I'm eager to see where we are come August in terms of the squad and the approach that's taken to and during games. For me tonight was a textbook example of where and why we are lacking; I am merely stunned that so many people seem to think we actually played well. If we create that little and have that little backbone next season we will get turned over frequently. Let's have higher standards than not testing a goalkeeper inside 90 minutes at home while shipping three goals. Let's want to be better than that.

The team that was selected didn't look like it was from a coach with any aspirations to make the play offs. 2 centre midfielders on the wings, no recognised central striker, a winger at LB, and Canice Carroll as a makeshift RB on his full debut.
Something doesn't seem right with players body language either, it might just be fatigue after Wembley/long season or there is something going on behind the scenes.
Even the crowd is showing signs of fatigue, the only ones I could hear signing was a group of Man Utd Fans on the right side, singing Country Roads :-)

Some of the posters on this thread need to get a sense of perspective compared to where we were three years ago. This has been an encouraging season. But the manager is now being criticised because he doesn't wave his arms around in the dug out and show , (that dimwit word), 'passion'. Really?
And some simply weird slagging of the team.
Fleetwood depressed me. Dirty, cynical time wasters. I'd much rather watch our lot, despite our flaws.

I hope MAPP and DE are here next season, weve gone from a stale and boring club to an exciting and forward thinking club. Mapps learning along the way, he said months ago that we are 4to 5 players short to challenge for promotion, he's right. He's taken us from defensive minded football to one touch, quick and exciting football, got us promoted and 2 cup finals in the last few years, not to mention the cup runs. I'd say he's learning all the time.

Apparently Fleetwood don't play like that week in week out, so may be they played a system based on the poor pitch? Agree with you about them being dirty, cynical time wasters though. The team and MApp have done really well, but doesn't stop him from being open to constructive criticism. I personally thought the line-up before the game was poor/odd, and I think that we've suffered by not having natural wingers (well we have one but continue to play him out of position) which he doesn't seem to be a fan of, then continues to play central midfielders in those positions. So I guess it's just frustration that gets to me with him as I know a great deal of his attributes are very good. Over thinks things some times though.

Good grief..... what a feckin clown. A little harsh on Appleton that, although would Coco the clown have still picked Johnson at left back? Probably not. Not exactly what I meant thanks to a quote failure on my part. I was referring to the poster who suggested we needed a new manager. The same sort of people who said Chippy had "reached his limit", well he probably had with the tools & equipment available but he`s not doing that bad now. Managing a team is a learning process, it takes time to get them working to the best of their ability and you don`t find out certain aspects of their abilities until you put them in challenging situations.
