What a strange game. I don't understand how I came away from a game we dominated, and sliced open the opposition at will for long periods, feeling like our keeper was MOTM. I don't understand how Hall veered so frequently between looking like the best player on the pitch then the worst soon after (his first 10-15 minutes was really poor). I didn't understand how we never managed to grips with Taylor, or that we couldn't spot Mackail-Smith drifting into the space our fullbacks kept leaving in behind when they drifted forward - exposing Dunks and Nels to potentially dangerous 1-vs-1 exchanges repeatedly. BUT there was some fantastic football in there. At times Lundstram and Ledson were utterly superb. When Maguire, Johnson, McAleny and Hall all run at defences it is a frightening proposition. And Hemmings' work rate up top was admirable (his hissy fit when Johnson shot rather than squaring it to him for a tap in was one of my highlights of the day!) As a general question to Peterborough - how is that stand safe? Long, narrow, rusty old rows. Little to no room to get past other people. Dread to think what might happen if there was a fire or reason to evacuate that stand quickly. That said, loved the low roof - made for a cracking atmosphere! the seating and row spacing was very uncomfortable , akin to Luton's oak road seats.

The U's have never won at Boundary Park, Oldham - but really need a win up there Tuesday night. They're all big games now, but next Saturday's against Scnthorpe is massive. We're 9 points behind them with 2 games in hand, so if we beat them we could potentially make the play offs. Got some hard games though as we play 5 of the top 6, so I guess it could be in our hands off we make it or not. On another note, not sure whether it's an insult to other players e.g. Hemmings when he's on the pitch and the fans are singing about Martinez etc. Think it should be sang when they're coming on. I was initially thinking the same.. It did seem a little disrespectful but they were all running the line warming up so probably nothing more than that. Hemmings didn't seem too bothered. Big clap to the fans when coming off and the increase in noise and appreciation from the fans was palpable.

I wouldn't read much into it. The Martinez song wasn't some angry reaction to wanting him on when the manager wasn't playing him - he just happened to be warming up in front of the fans. Skarz got a song sung for him as well when he jogged past. Also, the Martinez song is one of the most fun to sing that we've had in years!

Has Bazzer set a record for the amount of times anyone can have a pop at a player (Hemmings) in one thread. Even his Mrs's was asking about him 😂😂😂

It's a perfect example of why its not good to comment on players performances if not actually at a game.

Personally I don't get it. Hemmings is a cracking player, a very good finisher Ann works very hard for the team despite playing in a role which obviously doesn't suit him. Also, he's our player. Would like Appleton to find a better version on Taylor to play alongside him for next season

I agree the about the reason for doing, but just a shame we don't have a song for Hemmings as well. Re Scarz, I was singing about him in the hope that MApp wound put him on and push Johnson further forward, does frustrate me that issue as I think Johnson can be more hurtful to the opposition further up the field, and Scarz, has proved himself to be a great defender.

There were two excellent number tens on the field yesterday - their player - Taylor I think - was their best player by a clear margin - ball retention and carrying/passing first class. If we couldn't keep Maggie then he would be a potential top class replacement.....

Re; Maguire going forward, I think the club have got to stick by a deadline for him to make decision/accept offer and not move from it this time.

My lad was driving, he has just passed his test so thought it was ideal opportunity of useful experience of getting use to dual carriageways and longer trips (and fast BMW drivers!). Also gave me opportunity of having couple of pints in Charters! So from taking young lads round the likes of Histon, Stafford & Droylsden they can now drive me to the Oxford games. I've educated them well!! PS - These local Forest fans are getting worried?!?!?!

Seems that MAPP got it pretty spot on last season. Currently they sound as if they are not even talking about a contract, even though Maguire is ready to talk. We got lucky last time with Maguire coming back to take a contract last minute. If the club feared losing him and Appleton wanted to build a team around him, not quite the way to go about keeping. Similar tactics to his handshake exploits with Taylor. Having been in the shop window for the best part of another season, we will lose him unless we start talking to him now.
However with the staff cuts being made, and the let down over "Threefees" gate, maybe we cant afford what he will be looking for.

Don't think that's right at all. Mapp makes it clear that maguire likes to take his time and consider all his options. So whacking a contract in front of him now would make no difference as like with last year he will wait and see what happens in the summer. Like it says he will sit down with him and his agent and get an idea of where they are at, and what he will want. Then will make an offer dependant on what league we are in and how it fits in plans for the budget. If for example the budget is going to be reduced then we can hardly. Go with a smaller squad so may have to cut a top earner instead

It's not been a bad league for us, living where we do, this year for away trips. The one thing I do miss, is going to away games with my mates. The journey was always part of the fun. If ever you're stuck for a lift, send me a pm on here and we can sort something out I'm sure. We can talk about dot counting, that should keep us awake!!!

I think Chris Maguire has been great for us this year. He's a special player, skilful but also an entertainer too. I think we've been lucky to have him and I sense that he's feeling very at home with us now.
It's going to be several weeks before we know what league we'll be in next season, and I think this will delay any offers to Chris Maguire, and others, for that matter. Once we're in that position I do think it's acceptable to expect an answer within a reasonable timeframe, but I'd stress the word reasonable. That means reasonable to both parties and short term ultimatums are not the answer in my view.

Strange game really. Could have easily been 5-4 as it was 2-1.
Thought Hemmings had a great game and echo a previous poster saying he does very well in a position that isn't natural for him. Could see him getting frustrated as the game went on as there were a couple of crosses he was very close to getting on the end of and in addition, a couple of times where he was available for a pull back that never came. The one where he berated Johnson being the most clear. Sometimes his body language presents him as being a bit of an outsider compared to the rest of the team, celebrations for McAleny's goal for example, more of the team seemed to celebrate harder with Maguire whereas as KH just sort of wandered off towards the halfway line, taking a few high 5s.
We somehow got away with the amount of space that we gifted Peterborough on both sides of the pitch though. There were numerous times in the first half, where a diagonal ball went in behind Johnson and they didn't make anything of it. Robbie Hall's positioning when having to defend leaves a lot to be desired as well. He tends to drift quite narrow, leaving a man behind him, with better fullback, Peterborough may have capitalised on this. They had clearly identified these areas as a weakness, as must have been 10-15 balls during the match that diagonally switched the play.
Back four looked pretty solid, although we do still have the tendency to muck about a bit. Sometimes, I wish they would just stick the ball in the stand rather than trying to play out from the back. There was an example yesterday, 2minutes before half-time, 1-0 up away from home and we tried some fancy passing on the edge of the area, lost the ball and ended up giving away a corner.
Ledson and Lunny are fantastic and both work so hard and cover so much ground. As has been mentioned already as well, Maguire/Hall/McAleny/Johnson as an attacking quarter are pretty formiddable with their mixtures of pace and skill.
All in all, a great 3 points which was won in the 'old' Oxford way of making us nervy at the end.
