Appletons career record shows otherwise what did he do except last season? Those were his players out there today and they looked lightweight and lacking quality. Yet we have played like that under wilder and Appleton against that sort of team. Why do u think teams like arsenal struggle against stoke But we aren't exactly arsenal they use tippy tappy to cut through and get shots on target. I think Mapp has issues in that he is slow to change when things go wrong and we only really have one plan. How many times HG as he made changes at half time, FFS rothwell had 10 mins to have an impact today. Our way of mixing it up is replacing hemmings with Taylor or vice versa. Perhaps he will improve with time but let's not pretend he is a proven good manager like Chris wilder is now. As an aside Wimbledon stayed largely within the laws of the game. They were physical but within the tackle. We need to be stronger in the tackle and cut out one of the silly afters like the trip at the end and the blatant late contact from Maguire in the second half. I was so disappointed with the performance today there was a lack of spark and worryingly no threat going and not the best defensive display from midfield.

I'm sorry am I missing something? A couple of good results and Dunkley is better than Elliott play against a team of big lumps and he is crap. Get real,we are a mid table team nothing more nothing less.

The main problem is that Appleton has assembled a squad of skillful lightweights. Get up against physically strong sides like this and they get blown away. I fear it's going to happen a lot more in the second half of the season. Never has a truer word been spoken. It's pointless saying they were bully boys, thugs, etc, as we knew what team they put out yet had nothing to deal with it. Other teams may play the same, the fact is we are young, lightweight, too much emphasis on tippy tappy and do not have a striker who will score goals and put himself about in the box. They knew today that all they had to do was outmuscle us to win, and they did, all typified by the way dunkly lost the ball and fell over in the second half, poor defending. Taylors passing was poor, and he has reverted to not using his height to jump for the ball, ducking away at the last minute.
We desperately need to bulk out the squad with experience and an old fashioned striker, yet there seems to be no word from anywhere on potential signings, rumours anything.

Yes agree. We are screaming out for someone with physical presence up front & have been all season. Most fans are STILL not convinced by Kane Hemmings - he has got to work harder - & poor old Ryan .. well nuff said. Today's result is certainly not a disaster - a lot of folks I spoke to were expecting it - but I hope it doesn't herald a mid-season period of complacency that might see us slide back into trouble. We will be watching for an exciting newcomer to spark things up!!

A lot that I would agree with on today's show. AFC did a number on us by being more physical, winning more second ball and by playing direct. We looked second rate all over the park and yet have more talent in the squad than they could dream of and still we lost. Maguire looked out of sorts, Johnson couldn't find a cross, Taylor was being out muscled (mostly by illegal tactics) Lunny and Ledson couldn't find a team mate with a pass and the defense were constantly being caught out of position. Why oh why do we repeat everything ad infinitum from dead balls? High cross to back post, Dunks straining to head back, lose posession and wham, the ball is played out to waiting attackers who had been left upfield for such an event. ( why don't we try that?) Add in a linesman who hadn't heard of offside or specsavers and a ref who handed the green light to AFC in the first minute by not showing a card. And I really must stop making score predictions to Selfy, I'm never right!

Hateful, joyless football experience today. Ineffectual officiating, the worst time wasting I have seen for years, plus a woefully inadequate stadium. (if you can't actually see the whole pitch at this level you should get a rebate. )
We should have anticipated the bombardment and changed our team today. Skarz and Sercombe should have started.
Hall looked great in flashes and Eastwood was magnificent.
Wimbledon looked fitter than us and their front 3 are a handful. Not a great day at the office.
But be thankful you don't have to watch Wimbledon every week.

Oh yes, the "stadium" £24.00 for a seat in the bloody corner at ground level with limited view is outrageous. Although I expect I saw more than the poor sods cooped up in the shed along the side of the pitch.

You are lucky you never went in the home end, it was like being stuck in the middle of a meeting of the Women's Institute, with dash of middle class Felicity Kendall.
It was so non league that their subs warming up had to be allowed around the back of the stand to go to the toilet, and no-one batted an eye lid.

On the couch back to Sheffield having been slaughtered by Walsall? You mean top of the league again The talent and money at Sheffield United's disposal it would be difficult not to be top! Look at scunthorpe, another team spending money and it's showing. I know we have spent some money but nothing on what these clubs are spending. Charlton are great team who will be disappointed with the current league with the money they spent. With the money we have spent and being new to the division I am more than happy with where we are as a club, that does not mean that I thought today was any thing more than dross though.

We didn't attack with any tempo. We didn't attack with any numbers and rarely troubled their defenders. Their attackers found much more space. Can't remember seeing any Oxford player in any space going forward. They could counter attack, we couldn't. Yes, they were more physical than us but nowhere near as dirty as they were at The Kassam. The view from their side of the packed terracing was pretty crap too.

The good news about today's result is that England u21s will have been put off Appleton. We might be lightweight but you can only choose one or two skill areas in this league and we have gone for skilful but lightweight. Overall we are generally fine. We will end up mid-table and anyone not happy with that in our first season back is an idiot.

Sheffield United's wage bill is around 6 million. No need to spend big on transfer fees!
