re: Old Firm - Celtic deserved winners. Can't see them losing a game this season. Rangers looked average when I saw them live last Wednesday and average again yesterday. They have one gem though and that is the little lad Barrie McKay. I can see English Prem teams sniffing around him soon. Re: Celtic - I think Patrick Roberts has the potential to be a great player and possibly a future England international. I hope he returns to Man City soon. He already proved how good he is when scoring against his parent club in the Champs League recently and lets face it he's got to be better than Jesus Navas..
ps. Alex Fisher scored for ICT yesterday!!

Alex Fisher scored for ICT yesterday!! Was supposed to be there yesterday but could not make it, felt the Gers shaded the first half. 2nd half Celtic stepped up a gear and their better quality forwards were too much for Rangers. McKay played well but is far too inconsistent.

Thought I'd create a thread to pass a few thoughts on the state of the game north of the border - as well as mention any OUFC connections. I went to watch my local team St.Johnstone play Rangers on Wednesday. A strange experience to say the least. Rangers fans took over 2 and a bit stands. They made for a cracking atmosphere I'll give them that although as the game petered out you could sense their frustration. The moment of the game was ex-Oxford striker Steve MacLean scoring past ex-Swindon's goalkeeper Wes Foderingham. MacLean really is pivotal to The Saints - he reminded me of Danny Hylton to be honest. His work rate was superb & he would often be back in and around his own penalty area defending. His goal was due to his persistance in seizing on a defence error. The crowd was just under 8,000 (St.Johnstone normally get between 2,000-3,000). I went to a game against Inverness CT earlier in the year and the crowd was just over 2,000 - the difference between the 2 games was quite surreal. It would seem a lot of Perth locals only come out for the Old Firm games and avoid all other 'low key' fixtures. To be honest it's not cheap watching them. Tickets were £24 plus a ridiculous £8 booking fee. Trying to call the ticket office was also a bit of a joke & it took me over 3 days of trying to get through to book. Re: Inverness CT - remember Alex Fisher? he nearly scored a late equaliser for ICT at Ibrox last week! Everyone knows there's a huge disparity in the SPL teams but it's got to be bigger than ever I'd have thought. Imagine Oxford in a league with 9 other clubs and they were Liverpool, Chelsea, Ipswich, Brentford, Notts County, Grimsby, Carlisle, Leyton Orient and Barnet. Following your team in lower league footy in England can be bloody hard work for fans at times but I wouldn't swap it for Scottish footy any day..... Alex fisher plays in the SPL? I didn't think it was possible for Scottish fitba to sink any lower to me, it constantly manages to. Just noticed your reply. Very harsh on Fisher. He was just a boy when he was with us and as I recall he was a rare talent in a sea of mediocrity at the time. He seems to have worked very hard to make a career for himself. Fair play to him.....

Shame all the headlines over here are about a p*ssed group of fans sexually assaulting a stewardess on the flight over...

The Jail End? I'm surprised they could even give them away.

The Jail End? I'm surprised they could even give them away. They're trying to lock them into a deal.

The Jail End? I'm surprised they could even give them away. They get some great support when you consider the town of Dingwall has a population of under 6,000! That's like Wheatley & Garsington being in the EPL!

Hearts fell off a cliff when Neilson left for MK. Sounds a lot like Appleton's first half season in charge here.

Hearts fell off a cliff when Neilson left for MK. Sounds a lot like Appleton's first half season in charge here. Indeed - they then appoint a strange fella who looks like he got the job by being good at Football Manager.... Sportscene was bizarre last week - in a Kilmarnock game (I think) the linesman became ill and threw up on the touchline (something Sportscene thought we'd all like to see in the highlights). Then even more bizarrely the referee showed the linesman a red card (obviously as a joke). No one seemed too concerned to the welfare of the poor fella! Re: Alex Fisher update - he missed an open goal from about 2 yards last week in what has to be one of the worst misses ever in professional football. He did, however, score again on Saturday but once again ICT lost and are now doomed....

ICT - saw them a couple of years ago in a Pre-season game at Arbroath, what a ground Arbroath is, right next to the North sea. If the weather's bad you can stand on terracing and get splashed by the waves!

If the weather's bad you can stand on terracing and get splashed by the waves! I think Arbroath is the coldest ground in the country unsurprisingly. I walked my dog along the sea front next to the ground last year and he got a right soaking.... in the sports news up here today it's all about Craig Whyte's dodgy purchase of Rangers ....

Another superb performance from Patrick Roberts last night. He ran Partick ragged. Hoping Southgate will get him in the England squad soon - he's only 20 but already a better player than Sterling will ever be IMHO....

Spent over 35 years attending Scottish games and the overall standard has never been so poor, it's a shame that young Scottish talent is struggling to get a break but the same can also be said about English, Welsh and Northern Irish talent!

Celtic have a good team though don't they? Not their fault the competition is so poor, they have absolutely dominated it up there, around 40 wins and 4 draws with no losses in domestic competition is some record.

They are head and shoulders better than anyone else in Scotland and have 2 or 3 player's who are no doubt quality. The rest of their squad is ordinary and it just goes to show how crap the rest of the league is that they can win it so easily!

On a related note I'd actually be interested to know the stats, as I was thinking the other week that I'd never seen such a high percentage of Scottish players making up the top teams. Gordon, Tierney, Armstrong, Brown, Forrest, Griffiths, Wallace, Wilson, Holt, Halliday, Mckay, Miller. I bet if we look back 10-15 years when the league was much stronger you'd never find that many Scottish players making up the Old Firm.

You could be right and going back years ago most top English teams had Scots as part of the spine of their team . As an aside, I seen that despite being poor Rangers had the most away fans following then in Britain.
