A decent performance. Hancox was a silly boy for diving in again - will he not learn to stay on his feet? I'm not sure why their fans were complaining, it's a standard league Ref decision (for better or worse). Like Saturday, players that are booked need to be careful.
The players took Macc seriously today and it was too much for them. McCombe looked like he needed a sit down with a cannister of Oxygen half way through the 2nd half and was struggling to get about - needs to stop eating the pies! I thought we looked like a L1 team and Macc brought back memories of the Conference. They looked a tidy side, had talent but lacked a plan B and couldn't cope with all the movement. Wish them well.

Great piece of skill by Taylor for the third. Arhhh but that doesn't count, flick ons holding the ball up decent passing. Nope a striker is judged on goals ain't he oxfordboy Two blokes near me spent the entire match moaning about or laughing at Taylor. Gave him no credit for anything good he did and criticised him furiously when others made worse mistakes and didn't even get a tut or a shake of the head. Some people hate him and will never, ever leave him alone. When he did that sublime flick for the third I made a point of saying how brilliant it was for such a terrible player, especially after he'd already scored in the first half. Said he isn't Messi or Ronaldo but the stick he gets versus his actual ability is outrageous. They then sat and sulked for the remaining 15 minutes because someone challenged them on their relentless and unwarranted abuse. He's an average at best striker for the level we are at. Doesn't score enough, doesn't always contribute enough, but some games he's a very useful member of the squad who WILL get you points over the season by way of contribution. He gets a decent number of assists, is good help defending set pieces, and when the ball is played to his feet he's quite tidy and capable of holding the ball. He will probably be let go and replaced next summer and that's fine - we probably could do a little better. But he's not terrible, he's not useless, and he's nowhere near the worst player we've had in recent times. He's not even the worst player in this season's squad, to be frank.

I went tomight and was scratching my head over hearing 3 of the subs were Maguire, Ledson and Lundstram and was quietly concerned as I thought after the first game and seeing how lucky we were to get a replay MAPP would have started his stronger side, WHY? the side that played tonight did an accomplish job and if it weren't for their keeper it could have been 5 - 0. My MOM was Macca, Their player Hancox deserved to be sent of he got away with a lot in the first game so there shouldn't be any complaints from Macclesfield.
Onwards to the New York stadium and a doable win against Rotherham.

Much better performance from the team tonight. With everyone contributing to some degree. Defensively, Nelson was composed. And in midfield, Rothwell had a very good game as did Ruffels and Hall. Macca was his usual self - all action. But for me, Taylor played very intelligently. He may not be blessed with lightning pace, but he is able to hold up and distribute the ball. Took his goal well and set one up too. A good win!

Ye of little faith about the team!!
A totally dominant display and a total contrast to the first game. Some of the football played this evening was a joy to watch.
The good news is that the fringe player almost to a man played well. Ruffels, Rothwell, Roberts, Taylor were all very good. McDonald had one of those games where he was everywhere and could have had a hat trick- my MOM.
So we won £27K into a game where we could well win and go into the 4th round and the back up players all played well. Well done MAPP. Now Bury is a huge game ....

You've got to play Taylor & Maguire against us. As ex Millers they're bound to score. I genuinely hope you guys bring a good following to NYS in January. A new ground for a lot of you, (nice one too), it'll be a cheapy admission wise & you have a very good chance of the 4th round as we're sh y te. Go on, you know you want to.

The big difference was that we closed them down quickly all over the park and didn't allow them to get any time on the ball. First half they really struggled to cope with the pace of Hall and Roberts who were very direct and both caused Hancox to make rash tackles which ended his game. I was particularly impressed with the way Nelson brought the gall forward committing players and finding a pass, something we haven't seen this season and of course he played on the left which helped Dunkley. Rothwell and Ruffels were both excellent which puts pressure on Ledson and Lundstram. That said it was only Macclesfield who are two leagues below us now and had 10 men for 45 minutes. Bury will be a much sterner test and I expect Hemings and McGuire to start up front.

If we're on our game you'll be turned over Brad. Easily.
Good watch tonight, shame about Martin, you armchair boys missed a fluent performance. We could have scored 8.
Dunkley looks so much more accomplished as right side centre back.
My man of match, Nelson, plays more like Matt Elliott every game.
🎩 off to Appleton, good team selection.

Five changes from Saturday! FFS didn't we learn anything from the first game!!!!! Remarkably prescient, full of insight Called it how I saw it at the time, and wasn't the only person who felt our strongest eleven should have started. Most posts in the build up to the game were saying exactly that, and not too many argued with my post at the time. I'm happy it all turned out well, but if it makes you feel better having a pop, with an honours degree in hindsight, then well done you!

For the uninitiated among us, where do the ultras usually sit/stand/wave flags in that shot? Middle block. Top downwards.

From the sounds of it, it was a good and professional performance. Good to see Taylor and Rothwell score and Hemmings to get his 8th of the season.

Looked quite comfortable judging by the highlights. Great pass from Taylor to Hemmings for the third. I have always thought Nick Harris was a bit of a disaster as a commentator - gotta be time to retire......

I have always thought Nick Harris was a bit of a disaster as a commentator - gotta be time to retire...... Listening to the commentary, I was very confused about who scored the first goal. He said Taylor scored, but didn't show any excitement and actually sounded disappointed. I was wondering if Macclesfield had a Taylor up front. About 15 seconds after the goal, he clarified that Oxford had scored.

We have played you at the New York Stadium in the league back in 2012. At a guess we will probably bring about 500-600 fans. It isn't the most appetising draw with all due respect.

Why couldn't we have had Charlie Raglan in our squad for last night? He's not cup tied and Chesterfield were knocked out of the competition by Wycombe in round two.
Chesterfield won a Col U in the first round whilst Raglan was here.
We need to sign him on January 1st.

brilliant assist from taylor for the third goal.Maybe him and hemmings could do very well together.Mapp has some nice selection opportunities or headaches! I think so as well. Some of his passing and flicks are brilliant. I said before the game that I thought that was what Roberts had been lacking, having someone like Taylor up with him. And he had a much better game. If he could bring out the same in hemmings, as he did for the 3rd it could be a great pairing. Then have maguire and hall either side, and Johnson who looked a lot more comfortable at lb yesterday bombing forward. Harsh on macca after the game he had yesterday, but some great options

Probably already mentioned but interesting to note that Nelson played on the left side second half with Dunks on the right. Nelson looked assured playing there albeit against 10 men.

They went that way as soon as martin went off on two mins. But Definitely both looked more comfortable. Always let Nelson carry the ball out dunks should also be the message, his distribution is so much better. And knowing that dunkley's strength isn't his distribution why do we let him take the free kicks from our own half instead of Nelson or Eastwood. He managed to put one straight out for a goal kick yesterday

How did Canice Carroll do in his short spell? I thought he did really well. One dodgy pass, but plenty of good ones too. Was confident to get forward on a couple of occasions, did some nice link-up play (particularly when Macca moved to the right and played in front of him) and even attempted a decent shot. Sounded absolutely made up in interview afterwards. Nice move from MApps.
