Kassam as a landlord is a nightmare, we all know the stories. Gives only a small % of refreshment to the club, refuses for improvements to be made even though OUFC offers to pay Did you know though, one of Oxford's other sporting teams has to suffer the following £13.90 Parking charges for fans for matches Club pays rental for match days Not a penny from any refreshement sold during matches is shared with the club No onsite storage Surcharge on each ticket sold goes to landlord Refuses improvements even when club offers to pay Over 50% of club turnover, ends up back to the landlord..... Sounds grim, Sounds Kassam like. Nope. Its our own City Council. oxfordcitystars.com/oxford-city-stars-calls-on-oxford-city-council-to-deliver-promises/www.oxfordmail.co.uk/news/14839958.Oxford_City_stars_bid_to_reach_top_level_put_on_ice_by_city_council/#most-full-blockWe're a small voice, but the Oxford fans helping raise this is unacceptable is really helping. Thank you to each and everyone of you that tweeted or spoken to your councillors.

That is poor. I bet if they go and win a Trophy the Councillors will be there, just like when Oxford United are successful.

They don't want working class sports in Oxford, now rugger is fine of course!

It does seem like our city council want a certain feel about the city and a successful sporting one doesn't seem to be it!
There isn't enough to do for people IMO around the city and so having a very welcoming football club and ice hockey team should be key to getting people out and away from sitting infront of the TV.
Up in Chester it is similar with not many going to watch Chester FC play even though it is a community club and there is an Ice Hockey team in Deeside yet you rarely see any sign of them if any around the city or local adverts. Yet if a restaurant or new fancy wine bar opens it will be front page of the local rag!
You then go to somewhere like Stoke where all the talk around the place every day is either about Stoke or Vale and how they are doing.
It seems that Football and Ice Hockey are still very much working class sports and certain city councils aren't interested in them.

£13.90 to park for an evening is robbery.

I wonder if you you do a deal with City of Oxford College just across the road? They charge £5 a day for cars to park there but lock their gates at 6.00pm.

Aye, we do use the college but the spaces are limited. We pay the college a fair whack to park our players cars there each week, it is still a lot cheaper than the offer the council made to us for player parking.

I heard a report on rad ox that the council class Sunday evening as prime parking time, and that it cost more to park in the oxpens car park than it does to watch the match, that's disgraceful.

Yup, a match ticket costs £10, of which one pound goes to the Council to support "Parking discounts" Parking is £13.90 of which everything goes to the council.
The Council also have now refused to acknowledge the £1 they receive was for parking discounts, so they're getting £1 from each ticket on top of rental, parking and food and drink.
We're making them about £150k per year. :-(

Would it be cheaper/worth pushing to park at the Railway Station or even Park and Ride from Botley?
Edit: Not that they should have to do with a perfectly good empty car park next door that the Council should set a reasonable parking fee for.

yup, so we're talking to Chiltern, Oxford Parkway to the station should run at about £2 and be a journey of less than 5 mins, the trouble with the Park and Ride is that the buses stop before the end of the game, so we would need to hire buses.

Ah, hopefully the talks with Chiltern are successful then the Council get nothing from parking.

I remember going to the cinema in central Oxford about ten years ago and parking in the Westgate cost more than the cinema ticket, was about £10.
If this is about preventing people using the Oxpens car park as a cheaper alternative, they should have the car Oxpens park ticket at £13 but gives you £10 off admission to the fighting on ice. That would though mean the ice hockey would have to collect vouchers and try and claim back from the council.

We got the vouchers, every car park ticket comes with a 25% off voucher to claim back at the Ice Rink tills funded by the council, if you go Ice Skating........ We moved our ticket system to the ice rink tills, pass over a handling fee to the council so they can pass on the 25% voucher to fans.
But they are now saying that they're not doing this. They say have no memory of agreeing, even though its minuted in meeting notes and emails. So that's much of the gripe, They Council are keeping the handling free from our ticket sales and not passing on the 25% off discount.
BUT there isnt all bad news, see this PR: Oxford helps their own.
- Oxford City Stars sponsors, Class Act Teaching Services of Abingdon have stepped in to pay for the ticket of every single under 16 attending this Sunday’s pivotal game vs Invicta Dynamos at Oxford Ice Rink.
Class Act have acted after seeing so many fans comment on how expensive parking is at the Oxpens Road Ice rink after Stars Directors raised the issue with the press.
The information that the Stars shared with the Ice Hockey world, went global, with many supporters of other teams calling on Oxford City Council to make swift changes to allow the Stars fans and away fans to attend matches. Parking fees at the Rink, thought to be amongst the highest in Europe for an Ice Hockey match are clearly stopping fans attending Stars matches and are seen by many as an insult to the sports loving public of the County.
On hearing these fan comments and seeing Oxford fans across social media complain about the cost of parking, Class Act stepped in with a wonderful gesture to cover the cost of every single children’s ticket for this Sunday’s game, reducing the overall cost of attending for families by £5 per child!
Mark Oliver Director of Class Act Teaching Services said “Sport is an important part of a child’s education, whether it’s as a player or spectator. The benefits of playing and watching sports are well documented and we believe Children should be allowed to experience a variety of sports, but with costs to attend games at the current level many will not be able to do so. We already sponsor the Oxford Junior Stars U11 and U9 Ice Hockey team but want to help Oxfordshire families further to watch the Oxford City Stars and the game of ice hockey, so for the match against Invicta Dynamo’s Class Act Teaching Services will providing free child entry tickets to all those attending. We really hope families take up this free opportunity to experience this great game and cheer on Oxford’s own Ice Hockey team at their and Oxfordshire’s ice arena.”
Stars Director Russell Shrives added “This is an incredible gesture by one of the club’s sponsors, we believe children become inspired by sport, not just to excel but also to take part at any level. We are so grateful and we hope this will provide some families who usually don’t attend because of the parking fees, to bring the family. For Class Act to offer to pay for every child, that’s an amazing opportunity and a boost to the club and the community we wish to represent and build.
Every child (u16) attending, with an adult will receive free entry to this Sunday’s match.
Class Act Teaching Services have been supporting local schools for fifteen years and are the leading primary school teaching supply agency in Oxfordshire. They not only provide Oxfordshire’s schools with supply teachers and teaching assistants, but they also actively support the local community by sponsoring The Oxfordshire Children’s Readathon; Charity Secret Santa; as well as the Oxford City Stars and Oxford Junior Stars U11 and U9 Ice Hockey teams.

Did they sign off those minutes and send emails with that info to your reps? If so, go to all public meetings etc with Councillors and keep raising the issue even if nothing to do with the subject involved. Some Councillors will eventually get interested and advocate on your behalf. I'm assuming you've gone to the Ox Mail and Rad Ox already.

Minutes and actions were shared yes and yes, we have gone to the Mail, who've given us front page and 2 other big articles. Keep going to open Council meetings and raise the subject. Become a nuisance for reneging on the deal. Also, contact individual Councillors and try to build a body of support within the Council. Build pressure internally and externally if you can. I'm sure you've probably thought of this but it is always worth mentioning. Should say it worked for a local organisation at the Council where I used to work albeit they weren't sports. The trick is also balancing getting your message across without being aggressive in meetings etc.

I know it is one of the more minor issues in your list but it is possible to park for free less than five minutes walk from the ice rink and city centre in white house road and walk through friars warf.

There are a couple of 24 hour spaces and then nearly the entire nearside of the road towards the river is 2 hours parking until 1800hrs (or thereabouts) and therefore free afterwards.
There is also a very nice gated car park in the road that I believe is owned by the council and used by their employees... I doubt they have much need for it during your match day parking!
