Great way to spend the morning with a win for the Yellows. We're having a bit of a blow here with a tropical storm blowing through and a flood tide. I like the sound of Mr Johnson.

Still need to figure out the system, Johnson must start, duh! Think Hemmings might have scored if on the same pitch as Johnson, he's a finisher.
Can't wait to have Hall and Johnson out wide in the same side.
We'll grow into the season. Mid-table at Christmas and push on from there.

Onwards and upwards. At this early stage, we've dumped Rochdale to the bottom of the league. I wonder if they'll be hanging around there for much of the season.
This new look side is still developing and gelling, however with Johnson in now and a more established and settled looking defence to follow, we should hopefulyl start to see the makings of MApp's League 1 side as opposed to the one built to get us out of League 2.
Another MOTM award for Maguire. He's started the season on fire!

Yes! BTW, would never have got that goal without Ryan Taylor on the pitch - fact. Actually, that's not a fact, sorry to shatter your universe. How refreshing to have a bloke who will deliver the ball from out wide with consistency. You've got to get the ball out wide in the first place for that to pay off. We were struggling to establish a presence in the middle of the pitch and IMO bringing Taylor on gave us an option to do that where it wasn't working before...

Pleased. We are still finding ourselves but are improving steadily. Definitely comfortable in this league, can't wait to see what the new signings have to show

Felt a bit like some of those frustrating games from the Wilder League 2 era in some ways - struggling to make purchase against a team that sat back. A hard-fought three points.

That was frustrating!
Was horrible watching in the first half. Both Rothwell and Maguire cutting in field leaving us with no width, Hemmings and Thomas then having to fill the wide areas creating a huge gap between both of them, coupled with the fact that Lundstram would look up to do his cross field passes from deep only to see a load of space with nobody near, just leaving him with passes to the back 4.
Credit to MApp for changing it and putting Rothwell in front of the back 4 with Lundstram, pushing Sercombe forward. Johnson made a big impact with quality balls into the box and the threat of pace. I guess going forward Ledson will be the double pivot with Lundstram pushing Sercombe further up, of putting Maguire into the #10 role, which he is clearly made for! I thought the energy of Macdonald was vital, with Taylor winning plenty and bringing others into play. If we persist with 4-4-2 I think we Taylor alongside Hemmings of Thomas, however I think a tactical change is now on the horizon with the latest additions.
All in all we scraped a good win with some glimpses, a good week now to get the best team/formation sorted for the weekend.

All things considered its a great result. We won, got the 3pts, a clean sheet, no new injuries, good debuts and from an injury hit team that are still very much a work in progress - ill take that!
Think we will have to be better next week though to beat the S...

Johnson made the difference, good to get the three points today which was needed, i think with MJ's delivery we will get a lot of goals especially Hemmings, Rothwell also looked good today but Lunny was disappointing today ( maybe drop him for Ledson next Sat or is that too much of a risk?) and it was good that we kept a clean sheet. Once we get going i really think that we will do well this season.

He didn't against Sheff Utd and paid the price. Also agree that with Ledson we can play a new system which could get the best out of Sercombe and Maguire. Difficult choices for which forward to play. I'm inclined to agree about Taylor but think Hemmings will blossom with more games. Let's not forget Thomas though who is a dangerous player. These are good problems. Also massive well done to Raglan who did ever so well.

Also massive well done to Raglan who did ever so well. We have some interesting choices coming up re: strikers if we continue to play 1 up front. Personally, I think Hemmings would benefit from having a #10 finding his runs, we dont appear to have that at the moment. For me, Maguire, Crowley, Rothwell and Sercombe could all play the #10 role. Taylor is fantastic at bringing others into play. Holding the ball up, feeding the wide players. We saw last year how well Roofe played off him. Thomas runs the channels well, is a nuisance but I maybe expected him to be a little more physical for his size. Still think he has an important role for us however..

Neither team deserved any points today. That was a truly awful game of football, hugely reminiscent of the dark League Two days under Wilder. If that had been a draw the footballing gods would have been furious at having to award both teams points.
But, a win is a win, I suppose. At least we're finally making the stadium into a bit of a fortress where we're picking up wins regularly.

Poor game, great result. Hemmings looks way off the pace, but what he needs is crosses, and boy does Johnson look like he will provide those. Taylor also made a difference. For me I'd start him with Hemmings or Thomas just to win the battle in the air and hold it up, that will allow sercs Maguire and Johnson to feed off him

What I've found refreshing is that since the Luton game last season where we lost, there no longer seems to be an edge to the games as the crowd is much more supportive of the team even when it's not going our way.
I reckon this is helping our home form and I can see the Kassam becoming a fortress.
It was a poor performance but we still got the result. "Papering of the cracks" is a poor term in our current situation, it suggest that we have a problem. It is obvious that we now have the quality to compete it is just a matter of time before the new players start to gel.

Absolutely dire, with our 1 dimensional system worked out from kick off. We have to change things around to get anything from this game. And change we did to 433, both Magic and MacDonald made the difference. I think he will be a cut above most of the opposition we face.

I don't think it was as bad as people are saying. OK, we were poor in the first half but Appleton changed the formation and we created a lot more in the second half. The result could have gone either way but there were some signs of hope out there. I don't think we will be challenging for promotion this season but to keep out of the relegation zone would be good.

I thought the first half was dictated by two team struggling to perform in the conditions and there were lots of misplaced passes and bad decision making.
The 2nd half wasn't a complete turn around but was a better performance from ourselves. Overall I enjoyed the game.
I think there is a lot of quality in the squad but due to a large amount of changes in personnel we haven't yet gelled. We will do and I see us competing very well this season.
The most pleasing thing for me was to see Mapp change it up in the 2nd half formation wise. I think it will be important in this league and with the squad of players available to us not to become to rigid in terms of certain players playing every week and the same formation as that is 'our best team'.
Today taylor needed to come on and we needed to change the formation to suit the oppositions and we did. It worked.
Being more flexible in this approach may be the key to success for us this season.
One player I would like to highlight is Eastwood. If we had him last season we would of won the league. Im not sure if he's that good of a goalkeeper yet or our two last season were just that poor. A keeper who doesn't make you wince anytime a ball is in the box. Great signing.
