Seems a tad of an overreaction.

To be fair Oufc have been warning us that a heavy sentence and fine would be coming our way if we kept doing it.

I could go out on a Saturday, grope and batter a woman and get a more lenient sentence than that. Unbelievable. You'd think a 6 month suspended sentence, a 2/3 year banning order and a little community service would have been more than enough.

It seems heavy handed but the warnings have been out there for a while.

Ray Wilkins got a suspended sentence despite being done for drink driving for the 3rd time...

Anything football related carries a heavier punishment, it's wrong but common place. Like the lads who got sentences for fighting in that bar when our game had been called off. Wasn't even a matchday, wasn't against other football fans, but were given heavier sentences as it was football related.

Happy that he was punished but have to admit that it seems pretty heavy. Maybe he had previous which was taken into account. Flares might seem quite amusing to the thrower, but the potential to burn or even blind someone makes it a stupid pastime.

You take the risk and you are left at the mercy of courts. I hope those that thought it was all a fun little game last season take notice that the courts have no sense of humour about this.

Odd that there in no court report in the Mail so far. Some on here suggesting that it was over the top, but scan through Google and you find similar action from the courts. Villa fan got eight months for chucking a coin into the crowd and two Sheffield fans were given eighteen months each for chucking a flare. In that case it hit a thirteen year old girl on the head. The fact that her bobble hat saved her from a worse injury. Just shows how stupid this pastime is hopefully those involved will now come to their senses.

What i want to know, how easy is it to get hold of flares ? I suppose you can get anything on t'internet these days, but in these troubled times, you would have thought it would be difficult.
