No, but it we pay a rent and when there are 6 pylons of 9 lights and among these 6 , 9 are defunct, it needs Firoka to replace the lights. I was watching and thought the pitch didn't look as illuminated as normal. Lord knows how many are out above the South stand.

Is it possible to install LED globes now?

There is an ongoing maintenance discussion between the club and Stadco, as the club are unhappy with the level of service being provided. The floodlights, I'd imagine, would be a part of that discussion.
Although they could be replaced with LED floodlights, this would be a considerable outlay and the benefit of LEDs is their long lamp life. As we only use them sporadically there is no real benefit in having LEDs, and it would take decades to recover the capital cost. LED streetlights are a viable option as they are on every night for several hours a night, football floodlights are not. My company recently supplied the lighting for Manchester City's training academy and they chose the traditional metal halide light source for the floodlights, even with all of their money.

Is that why Kassam has yet to sign off on the temp 4th stand do you think?

With the amount of rent we pay I think the stadium should be maintained properly most of the seat numbers are not visible any more. Tuesday night there was a lot of casual supporters and quite a few around by us arriving late took ages to find their seat. A small point I know but it wouldn't cost a fortune to fix

LED's use around 90% less energy compared to incandescent bulbs, 90% less energy is a big saving in electricity costs.

LED's use around 90% less energy compared to incandescent bulbs, 90% less energy is a big saving in electricity costs. But football floodlights are not an incandescent source, they are metal halide, which is a discharge source, thereby providing much higher lumens per watt that incandescent, and a much longer lamp life than incandescent. Yes LED lasts longer, but to get the luminous flux required to illuminate a sports pitch there is not much difference in the lumens per watt verses metal halide. As they are only on for a few hundred hours per year, at most, the lamp life is an irrelevance as a decent maintenance programme should deal with it. If you think about it, we've been at the stadium for 15/16 years and they're only just beginning to fail now, so it should't be an issue. The cost of replacing the luminaires themselves would be huge, and you'd have to replace all of them for a very negligible saving (if any at all) given the relatively low usage. PS: I run an exterior lighting company!

Thanks Colin, I work in exterior lighting too.... Would be interested to know your company name if you wanted to PM it to me. Back to the issue of failing floodlights, I think we need to find out what the problem is first. Is it lamp failure, gear failure etc? Then decide on the most economic solution based on whole life costs. Our company would be able to advise if required....

The lights have been failing for a few years. Some units on the North and South Stands didn't work for ages around the NM era and after when stuff like the PA didn't work properly. If the club don't have one, they need to create a snagging list so our "Custodian" can get on with some jobs.

As with the construction of the stadium form start to (three-quarters) finish, Kassam's 'solution' will be whatever is the cheapest.

Would they save power costs, and be more viable if we owned the stadium and held concerts/events. Also, does the government give any incentives for greenhouse gas reductuctions by instaling LED lighting? Just some thoughts.

I counted them at half time on Tuesday and there are 17 out of 36 on the North Stand roof not working. I don't know how the club let Stadco get away with it.

I noticed the same there are a few that do not work all the time, the lamps may have been changed but it could be the control gear that controls the lamp. But on another note I am aware that there are 3no light switches that control the floodlights this is so they can have the pitch set at different lighting lux levels. There is a minimum lux level required for each tier of football this is measured using a lux level machine and us taken in over 80+ positions over the pitch. If my memory serves me right if all lights are working the standard of light we have is for championship and premiership but not European football.
It annoyed me on Tuesday as it looked very dark on the pitch with so many lights not working
