OUFC have just confirmed on Twitter that Oxford City Council have refused permission for the proposed club shop in the city.
Wonderful supporters of the club, aren't they?

Unless this is something different then we knew this the other day, but we were one of many who applied, don't see why we should feel it's anyone doing it to spite us, maybe there were better options from their point of view?

I must have missed the news.
Better option? Maybe, but as it's a commercial rent, that would be the same for all parties, I struggle to think of something "better". Perhaps another food outlet, or a gift shop, I'll look forward to visiting it.
It seems to me, that every time we go looking for support from OCC, we never seem to get any. Tired of reading about Councillors who purport to be massive fans of OUFC, particularly at election times, yet we see no real support (please don't mention the stupid and pointless parade).

Nothing new in this. OCC never really supports the club when it matters, but they appear at Wembley 1986, 2010, 2016 and appear at the Ka$$tad at the Wycombe game and revel in the glory. The only noise you get from the councillors is " Get out of your Car and use the Bus". Nimo-Smith et al, are short sited narrow minded people who don't think out of the box. I know it's a different topic, look at the farce with the Wolvercote roundabout roadworks

If the box was on a bike or from the university, they'd think outside. For most others, it's the same old bland nonsense

Hardly surprising. While I was at the university you would hardly have known that there was a football club in the city. No shops selling any merchandise in the city center (easier to get hold of Man United or Barcelona merchandise) and a general feeling that the club belongs to a totally different world.

Great news, wonder if a deal has been done with the council on rent? Bloody expensive in there. Still think u would have got more footfall in the new west gate, but should hopfully bring in some revenue from tourists especially as the club get bigger and more well known

The rent for a unit in there is ridiculously expensive - £6k/month in some cases. Sharing a unit would make sense.
It's a shame that it'll be tucked away out of sight of the passing trade but that would be even more expensive. Hopefully the tourists visiting the covered market will buy a shirt as a souvenir of their trip to Oxford and maybe a ticket to take in a game while they're here too.

Re tourists and tickets it might be worth making some well designed leaflets with a clear map and info in a few languages showing where to catch the bus in the city centre and where to alight in BBL to get to the ground easily. Also advising them to get return tickets

Finally, would've loved it in the westgate so more tourists visit but nevertheless pleased we have one in the centre of oxford.
I know I'm over thinking this but usually the club would announce something like this at 6AM. Which makes me think something will be announced tomorrow. (This is me clenching at straws for some sort of signing to be announced before the start of June)

Perhaps you are thinking of that bit in the night bus in Harry Potter when the conductor says, "Clench your buttocks, we're going to have a bumpy ride."

Getting the word "buttocks" into your first post. Not bad, welcome to the clan.

I heard it will be within the Market Barbers taking half the space there. I've heard that too from a very reliable source. The owner of the barbers also owns another property in the market.

Years overdue but finally it's happening. Good that it's selling tickets as well. It is going to be a shared unit with the Market Barber. Don't underestimate the foot fall in the market. It gets rammed with tourists!
