One of those nights where everything went to plan. The goal in the first half was vital, settled everything down. No reason why we can't go to Plymouth and get a good result.

Role on Plymouth. I think we don't have to worry to much about them. We could have beaten them easily at home. They try and play football like us, but they are just not as good at doing it. They are a bit like Exeter in that respect. We seem to be hitting a purple patch at the right time. I could see Plymouth dropping to the playoffs soon, but no one else is playing particularly better below. It's just a case of who will join us and Northampton now. We used to play good football, but we've not been as good as those heady days for a month or so, so don't count our chickens just yet. Plymouth will be a hard game, and I for one will be happy with a scrappy point there. I do like you're optimism though. yeah, you are right. I think we are digging in when we have to though. I would love Plymouth to join us in promotion, as they have a really good support and deserve to be in a higher league. However, I think they have ridden their luck all season and now we will start to see their decline into playoffs where they will lose in the semi-finals. Never mind, they could always get promoted next season, but we will being getting promoted to the Championship then. Maybe too optimistic???

Yep, I was thinking Gazza 96 when I watched it back today. Plus Hylts didn't have to beat a Scottish goalie so his goal is clearly better.

Or Le Tissier, he scored a goal like that almost every week...

Up until the second goal as in many home matches this season we were in control but not really looking as if we would convert that into a more comfortable lead. THe second goal and the appearance of Roofe seemed to lift us and totally deflate York. Up until then there was no real fluency about our performance with many passes going astray. A better team than York could have capitalised on it. I think we missed Lundstram's passing ability and hopefully he will be fit for Plymouth.

The worst thing about that York team was the severe lack of talent in the team. I remember when we played Tranmere last season and they were lazy and had no heart for the fight rather than a lack of ability. Not York, the team looked like they were giving it a go but genuinely looked like they should be a level below. How many bizarre corners did they give away needlessly last night? It was embarrassing. Always liked York like many on here and would be a bit gutted to see them go down but its hard to see them staying up.
As for us, lovely stuff, did a proper job on a team at home. If im being picky I would of liked to see another goal or two as the amount of chances we created deserved that. Massive confidence running through the team before a massive game on Saturday.

Roofe seemed to play in between their midfield and defence, and as he come on in place of a winger/wide man they couldn't work out who should pick him up! Hope you're right about Lundstram, but Ruffels did a good job as cover.

Hope you're right about Lundstram, but Ruffels did a good job as cover. Ruffels is strong and tackles well. He did keep giving the ball away though and is not an instinctive passer of the ball. I know he hasn't played much competitive football of late but as we like to play a passing game he does need to improve this aspect of his game if he is to be effective in L1. On a separate note I think Dunkley has improved his game significantly this season and maybe having Fazackerley around as an ex defensive player at a much higher level has helped him.

What I liked about our goals is that 3 of them were scored from around the 6 yard box. Earlier in the season we weren't scoring many like that. Roofe seems to have found that predatory instinct, and Bowery has always had it, so it seems.
From the radio commentary, Nick Harris described Bowery's goal as "coming off his knee without knowing much about it" when in fact it was a very controlled finish off his thigh. I also think Jerome overexaggerated the quality of Hylton's goal, which was a good bit of skill and a tidy finish but I was a little underwhelmed when I saw it!
No way was that a corner when Bowery headed over, which Dunkley scored from! There have been some interesting decisions down that end recently.
One of these games against a lower side, everything will come together and I fancy us to equal or even break our record league win of 7-0 before the season is out.

Totally agree about Ruffels. Needs to open up his body when the opportunity arises to switch the play, but he tends to go back into the hole the ball has been worked out of.
