I really don't understand this. I always park at the same place near the Bird, even for big games, and never have a problem. After the game I'm on the ring road and away in minutes. I turned up yesterday at 1:45 and straight into my normal space. All people need to do is use a bit of imagination. I would never park in the overflow car park, even for a moderately attended game. If I drive to an away match, and it's somewhere I've not been to before, I scout it out online, look at maps and head for somewhere ALWAYS on the same side of the stadium that is the way home. That way you're not caught in loads of traffic going past a stadium you've just walked out of. I'd rather walk an extra five minutes than sit in a car for 25 after the match because I was too lazy and tried to get as close as possible. Just do your homework and it's easy. Exactly my usual tactic especially for away games. I walk 10 miles plus every working day I know that you can walk a fair distance in ten minutes or so. I have never parked in the overflow because I can park almost next to it at a cousins house using the Littlemore estate to get to the ring road in minutes and never get caught in significant traffic. However, if 2000 extra cars started using the public roads the council are bound impose more restrictions. I only used the East Car Park yesterday due to arriving very early and expecting to leave an hour after the game with easy exit. My interest in parking is that if casual fans experience problems parking they are less likely to turn up in future. Make parking as easy as possible and they will return more often. Many people do not plan ahead, are relatively lazy, are unlikely to change and, for the benefit of OUFC, need an easy parking option. That's why I feel the club need to plan ahead now rather than leaving it until it becomes a regular issue as crowds grow.

Perhaps one way to encourage fans not to use their cars is to somehow offer bus travel when a match ticket is purchased for people with certain post codes. For those of us that live outside Oxford, public transport is not so easy to use to get to games. In such a right on transport city like Oxford, I'm surprised the local council don't seem to give two hoots about it.

I'd like to question the arseholes who park in a hatched area...exit for pedestrians to the lane leading to the rail bridge at minchery....how the hell can wheelchairs or pushchairs get through?? AND aresholes parking in disabled bays....nothing in the windscreen indicating disabled.....I want to get those 'park like a c*nt' stickers

Well that's all ok for us loyal supporters. But what about the day trippers who drive to a game thinking the club have got a huge car park and overflow car park? You mean the people who haven't been before? Just like me, when I'm going to an away ground I've not been to before? If I can spend five or ten minutes scouting a place out ( and it's bloody easy due to this marvellous invention called the Internet ) then why can't people do the same for our place? Quite frankly, if they can't be bothered to do that then they deserve to get caught in traffic. What do they want, valet f*cking parking?!?!?!

Re public transport DE said on RadOx last week that he has spoken to the council re free bus travel on matcbdays for those who have a ticket to present for the game. But why when the stadium/Ozone was built that the council never insisted on a bus terminus being part and parcel is beyond belief.

YES. I had a go at someone doing this last year... just stared at me gormlessly and then carried on. Damn car park wasn't even full.

If I recall the Kassam has the one of the largest amounts of "stadium parking" in the UK, however once that`s full the alternatives need some local knowledge & common sense, eg: Not turning up 40 minutes before kick off and expecting to park next to the ground!
In terms of leaving after the game it is as much the drivers that are to blame for traffic flow, if (big if!) everyone merged in turn it would flow better. Even making the short stretch of road from the East Stand carpark to the HI roundabout into one way for 15 minutes with a few cones and left/right turn lanes plus some stewarding would help!!

Its like anything, change requires a period of adjustment. It's never been a problem before so while the crowds grow its chaos. People will start finding other ways to avoid the car parks, and hopefully public transport will improve. Shuttle busses from Water Eaton park and ride and Redbridge would make a lot of sense. What would make even more sense is busses to the city centre. When I get the train to the football I get the bus to Leys and walk down. Why not put on a few busses to the station after games? Once the message is spread they'd be definitely used.

Sorry, but while people are determined to use their cars and aren't willing to walk more than a few metres, the car park problems will persist.
I'm as guilty of the former as most, but long ago got fed up with waiting 30/45 minutes in a queue to get away after a game. I have since parked near the BBL shops. 7 minute walk to the ground and nice chippy on the way. Sometimes there's a queue on the Watlington Road as it approaches the Eastern By-pass, but it soon clears.
Brought to you by smug bastard public information broadcasts.

The Science Park is private property, and the businesses there will not likely want public within their property. Certainly some would perceive it as both a security and health and safety concern. Perhaps a solution is if there is a piece of land there that is no developed that could be used. Has anyone looked at what other clubs do with local business parks? It would make it a lot easier to make a case for them opening up if club x or y do it. I do think that between the club, OxVox and the council, more could be done to encourage locals not to drive to the ground if at all possible. It won't solve the issue, but could at least relieve it slightly on the bigger match days. What if the park and ride buses went to the ground on match days? Would make sense and would get the council some money for it.

There used to be a bus service from Redbridge. Why was that stopped? When I last went to matches regularly..about 10 years ago, there seemed to be more busses coming into the stadium. Are busses still going from Abingdon too?

Not all, last two home game I've got the kidlington special after the game and have been impressed with the service. Costs £3.50 single.
For the Swansea game I was having a pint in kidlington by half 2.
Took it a little longer after the Rovers game due to the traffic exiting the car parks at the open end of the stadium.
If anything, they need to put on bigger busses as it was standing room only for sections of the journey.

Who organised it? If it's working well , then should be easily replicated from other areas if demand is there

Couldn't tell you. But this bus went via Sandford, The Corner House, Headington, Marston, Sunmertown then Kidlington and Grovelands.
Heard people on it talking about a Carterton bus as well.

Would make sense and would get the council some money for it. That's the sort of idea that can easily work. If attendances regularly hit the 8-10k mark, it's a simple way to get fans to the ground, especially being so near to the A34. The key though is not getting buses stuck in the traffic jams outside the stadium, which kind of defeats the object. With a council so anti-cars, I'm surprised they aren't offering solutions proactively. I suppose it's because it's not the centre of Oxford.

Yes the club run a bus from Carterton. It picks up in Witney, Eynsham & Botley. It's a double decker and regularly has around 60 using it but was standing room only for Swansea. The numbers using it have increased nicely from a couple of years ago. I tend to meet up with others in witney for a couple of pints and catch the bus at 1.45. It usually arrives at the ground around 2.30 so time for a pint there too!

For the Di Canio Swindon league game they put on a park and ride service from the Unipart works which did a good job of keeping some of the parking pressure away from the stadium.

Might be worth the club going back to the Oxford science park and asking about the parking As the science park has now been taken over and full control has been handed over to Magdalen College

On Grenoble Road, why do people need to park 10 yards away from the car behind them? I have also noticed that some of the early arrivals take up 2 car spaces and position their car in the middle. Is this people saving a space for their mates?

Science Park is now wholly owned by Magdalen College. I doubt there is any risk or "H&S" issues or they couldn`t use it during the week!! Charity would be the way..... get some Oxvox volunteers on the gate.... £5 a car..... 50/50 with owner.... 1,000 cars thats £2,500 for now`t each!! Maybe we should infiltrate the May Day sing song atop Magdelen tower? A few shouts of 'You can stick your f***ing car park up your a*se' might give the Dean and his senior fellows a clearer idea of how we feel about them? Snooty sods

So its not a case of Magdalen College (or more realistically the management company they employ) saying yes as they would have to change the lease agreements with the businesses.

New build stadiums should have under pitch parking, and all car parks could be number to bumper, like Arsenal used to do in some streets at Highbury. Yes you have to wait until everyone in front goes, but tbh that's really what happens now. Should be controlled by parking supervision to speed it up.

The Science Park has loads of spaces yet refuses to help out. Surely even if they charged to park there it would be beneficial to them? Quite frustrating.
