quite a random post.......i was at a gig tonight in swansea (where im at uni) seeing ed sheeran (he is incredible btw, go see him if u can) and i got chatting to the merch guy afterwards.
saw the oxford badge on the background pic of my phone and mentioned that he was good mates with chris williams and that he also knew tonks. he couldnt believe how badly we treated chris. apparantly asked him to write all of the local reports and chris was having none of it.
didnt know if anyone knew anything about this or not??

I would suggest that certain members of the club did not realise how good the service Chris gave them was with no support and crap (borrowed - as OUFC would not buy any) equipment. Chris did this for years on his own with Ryan joining to help. Between them, the service was better than what we have now with three paid staff members.
Look at this morning as an example with the signing of Capaldi - first on Radio Twitter then on the Oxford Mail - that would never happen.
Programme is also not as good and no gallery either after games. There are more Yellow Player articles, but that is because there is one person specifically employed to do this and was supplied with a much better camera.
All you need to do is look at the number of people that have left to realise that things aren't always as they seem.

I can't understand why United are giving the Oxford Mail all the transfer "scoops" first as the club have many supporters paying for the official club SMS and the OWS would receive far more hits each day than the Mail's daily circulation.
I know in the past the OM have been very supportive and are a club partner but for them to get first dibs on all the club's transfer business this summer leaves me feeling uncomfortable.
As for CWilliams - he did a marvellous job and I thank him for his efforts. However there have been improvements in Yellow Player over the past 3/4 months (I pay for this service and are happy with it) and the matchday programme continues to be a good read in my view. It was voted the best "value for money programme" in League Two this season don't forget - as MB carried on Chris and Ryan's excellent work.
This will be improved too next season I understand.

What's done is done. Hopefully lessons were learned by everyone involved and nobody from either side will find themselves in a similar situation again. I do have my reservations, however.
As of tomorrow it's been exactly five months since Chris left. Probably best to leave it in the past.

Personally I think the matchday programme has improved vastly in content and quality.

I love the rose tinted glasses.
The fact is that it is nigh on impossible for clubs to keep utter control of announcements with forums such as this, twitter, facebook etc etc etc. There were several times when Chris got flack for apparently being slow to announce when other clubs had jumped the gun, a fan in the know had posted or indeed the player themselves. It happens, get over it.
I personally liked Chris and supplied him with some equipment to help him do the job I know he wanted to do. But don't lets all gang up on the new team because they're not Chris and Ryan. They're doing a decent job and I hope it continues to improve.

I've asked about the gallery and apparently they take (literally) hours to upload so was dropped in favour of photos in the match day report instead.

I think practically all the other clubs websites I have been on still seem to be able to get a gallery uploaded.... and most of them also seem to have better quality (resolution) images than the ones we used to have. Maybe the web team should ask some of the other clubs how they manage to do that.

The Gallery takes fifteen minutes tops, but putting action shots into the report still effectively provides the same service I would have thought. The only disadvantage is that it leads to less hits because people only have to visit one page to see everything they want, which over the course of a season will mean less money.

Perhaps they are uploading full size pics (10MB) instead of designed for web page 450K? Sounds unlikely though. As the match reports only have one or two pics it isn't really a substitute for the full gallery.

is he working? Does he attend games? Yes and yes. I've been to a few games with him since Christmas.

I was a big fan of the gallery and though its a minor quibble i don't see any reason whatsoever to stop it. The photos in the MR aren't the same and when non-leage outfits with no fiull time staff put up better quality match galleries than us its a bit pathetic.
