Even if Torres stays and they sign Ronaldo to play in a three with them I wouldn't trust Liverpool to turn it on. They are a club whom the phrase 'False dawn' was invented for. Will be an also ran for the next ten years at least. I'd say perennial 'False dawn' is more Manchester City 'Has been' are Liverpool's two words

Hard to tell if Suarez will be good value or not. £23 mil is a lot even if they do get double that for Torres. His compatriot Diego Forlan had a torrid time here, but as soon as he moved to Spain his career took off.

When you consider the prices of Carroll and Bent, two average strikers, the signing of one who would rank among the worlds best 10 or so for £23m seems a bargain - but of course whether he will settle here is the risk you take and thats why the prices are astronomical for English players.
Bear in mind that Suarez has been settled in Holland for a while, so he should already be used to Northern European climate/culture

Though the standard of football in the dutch league has slipped somewhat behind that of the US. I can't compare to the US but the standard in Holland is not high. Strange when you consider all the top players that emerge, must be something good about the youth schemes. But they all go abroad for the big money. At this moment only PSV Eindhoven and FC Twente are playing football that could survive in the Premier. Even Ajax has dropped down since Martin Jol arrived (and left). And the departure of Suarez won't help. Oxford could perhaps just about survive in the Dutch Premier or would be a top club in the 2nd division.

Oops, that was a typo, i didn't mean the US i mean't 'us.' Not sure where the 'the' came from. I doubt that dutch football has slipped below that of the United States yet. The impression given by the seacoast united boys in that free interview on the official site is that excepting MLS its like lower conference standard.

From what I've seen of him I've seen of him in last year's World Cup, I reckon he might give Pepe Reina a run for his money. ;D
