I'd be more inclined to ban Dave Hill's haircut from the Kassam. Bob Mortimer got it spot on. Attachments:

I hope you're OK with tweed jackets? It would be a blow if I had to kit myself out in 'leisurewear' from KidsDirect or Spurt4you.

I'm with the club here. Being of advanced years (plus some) I have common heart/lung problems. Doesn't stop me making a nuisance of myself at away matches but when that idiot let off that flare at Brentford on Tuesday it really knocked me for six. Coughed and spluttered so badly that the young couple next to me went quite pale. PLEASE DONT BRING YELLOW FLARES IN TO COVERED STANDS!!!! All seating, no flares, signs everywhere telling us to be careful. We are infantilized people imbued with the shame of adulthood! What will be next? 1) seatbelts to stop whiplash when people jump up to cheer 2) bans on songs that involve any kind of swearing (e.g., Swindon Town is falling down...'go away' Swindon) 3) breathalyzers used on fans entering the stadium to check they are not drunk. However, it will be ok to get drunk at any bars in the ground because they will have huge mark-ups on the prices of beer 4) Banning of any clothes worn by fans that are not aligned with stadium sponsors The problem with societies is that they work much like getting fat. You don't notice the change until you look in the mirror one day and think 'What the hell have I become?' I used to be London Rd and now I look in the mirror and see Kassam stadium- Depressing!!! Tyranny works best when applied in negligible increments

Flares, smoke bombs ? ha, childs toys. Around November the fifth, you always had to keep your wits about you in the London rd,in case someone let off a banger behind you, even better was the mayhem a Jumping Jack would cause,no matter which way you ran "Jack" seemed to follow. Does anyone remember the Scum game in the mid/late 70's when someone threw a lighted Air Bomb in the moat ? Scared the f@@k out of the St Johns Ambulance guys that were walking past !

I'm not entirely au fait with the ways of golfers but I have a feeling that they're the ones that wear blazers; absolutely nothing do do with me, I assure you. I wouldn't be surprised at all if many of those red and mustard slacks wearers weren't golfers, and if you have been paying attention you'll be aware of my opinion on that matter. He who doesn't read my posts is, I'm afraid, doomed to have them repeated.

Just been to see Angers v Nantes. Clearly the flares ban doesn't extend to France judging by the away end prior to kick-off.

Nowhere else in Europe is there such strict restrictions. Its ridiculous, nobody has ever been killed by a smoke bomb. The police have killed people, ban them from football matches just in case!
Pyro is not a crime.

Amazing pictures. The smoke bombs don't bother me at all - I see the attraction - but the last thing that any of you, who go to such great lengths to improve our atmosphere, want on your collective conscience is someone becoming seriously ill because of them.
Are they worth that or a banning order (or worse)?

Personally no they aren't. The repercussions imposed in this country make it far too much of a gamble. However, if the system was different, I'd have a different opinion. The way it works in Europe is, the fan groups (often) notify the clubs when they are going to do a pyro show, having been to some large games around Europe I've witnessed it first hand, and it's quite obvious when its about to happen... A load of people in bucket hats and shades come in with pyro overflowing from their pockets. I guess because the authorities don't have the same drastic level of dislike for pyro, the people setting it off can be much more open about it, to the point where if anyone who has issues with them, can be aware enough to take some preventative measures. Is it right that some individuals should have to do this? probably not, but there are pyro shows so regularly, and some of them make what happens in England look quite pathetic, without any stories of problems, that I believe that their system must work, and must be safe.
I have a biased opinion because I love the scenes we see from the continent. If it can work there, why not here?

I suspect in grounds such as Luton, there is some fire risk from using pyros. We live within an ever tighter Health and Safety culture, and there are wide implications if you don't "comply" with the rules. I'm not a Health and Safety person, but having come across a (particular humour less power impish) chap in that world in a place that I volunteer, the rules are taken very seriously. As such, there are sanctions that can be taken against you for non-compliance with the rules, so I absolutely understand why clubs have a blanket ban. It's just not worth the hassle to do anything else.

Has been used before by Bordeaux, however would completely ruin peoples clothes. Every single person behind the goal was wearing an anorak for their display!

Also that coloured powder is dangerously flamable.
IMHO there must be a way flares could safely be set off as part of a display if coordinated with the club, we've got quite a bit of open space to use all over the ground at the moment.....

Lots of clubs allow their fan groups this privilege. Here are the lads from Groningen last week being allowed to use pyro on the pitch.
