Firstly, i want to thank the club for all the hard work and things they do to help promote Oxford United.
But there is a lot more than can be done. Maybe Oxvox can raise some of the things mentioned on this thread to the club.
My idea, or not just my idea, but as mentioned by others on here, is buses to and from towns with a big Oxford United following. I feel the club are missing out of revenue by not doing this. Some people dont have transport. Some do, but with the price of a ticket, petrol becomes an issue. Lets take the Charlton model for example. They run transport from different area, and that means more people come to games. Places like Abingdon, Witney, Wantage, Wallingford, Didcot, just to name a few, would benefit from buses to and from the stadium. Many would use the buses, and some who wouldnt normally come, would be able to if these services were provided.
The pub scheme is a good idea, but needs to happen. If a pub signs up, there could be ticket offers, mention of the pub in the matchday programme and on the official website. If a pub in Abingdon signed up to this, id use that pub more.
When i was at school (primary) i was a Man Utd fan one week, Spurs fan the next, Liverpool fan the next. Then a few other kids starting supporting Oxford cause a player made a visit to the school. In secondary school, my form teacher had free tickets from the club every now and again, and the Oxford fans in the class went to games. Some went who wernt Oxford fans, but are now season ticket holders. A little effort with the many schools in the area can make many lifelong fans. If it wasnt for what Oxford United did when i was a kid, with player visits and free tickets, i may not be an Oxford fan now. Just shows what can be done.
The city center is an Oxford United free zone. Thousands every day pass through the city center. Not all would come and watch Oxford. But if some shops or businesses got involved, with maybe shirts or pictures on the wall, it would generate interest. It may not make a huge difference, but Oxford city center is a great place to spread the word, and show the city is proud of its football club.
Those are just my thoughts. The club do listen, so if you have any ideas or thoughts, the club may use them, so post anything you think that the club could do to help Oxford United.
