Platini won't be the next FIFA President according to the radio. Such a shame. Depends on whether or not he wins his appeal against the suspension unfortunately. The payment between him and Blatter seems at best very bad administration and trying to get around internal guidelines/limits on salaries (by Platini's own words which should result in disclipinary action for somebody) or at the very worst blatant corruption. Did Platini even have a written contract and does anybody actually know what this work he claims he did for so much money? Would the payment and payment method have avoided tax in the relevant countries and therefore effectively tax fraud? I'm sure the Swiss authorities will be looking at the latter question.

That's the bit that could well get him Platini in deeper water. He didn't have a written contract, just a verbal agreement saying pay me a million in whatever currency you want. Which he then called in 9 years later. Funny how you forget about the 900k you are owed. It just highlights how ineptly run FIFA has been where the President does what he likes.

I read an interview where he claimed it should of been more, he has some nerve I will give him that, he has already changed his story 3 times. It would be better to just disband Fifa and start again, I doubt this new election will make any real difference for all the talk, as an organisation the rot has set too deep. I imagine it will just be a quieter, more discreet corruption that will follow Havelange/Blatters years of rampant fraud/greed as those voting were all involved.

The Ethics Committee are suspending various people now they've seen the winds of change. I can't see FIFA being disbanded, but like the IOC has done, it is possible for root and branch change. Lets see what happens once the election has taken place and who gets in.
FIFA knows it has to change because it is now being investigated by law enforcement agencies. It's going to get a whole lot worse before it gets better.

The candidates have been announced:
Prince Ali bin al-Hussein, 39, is president of the Jordan Football Association Musa Bility, 48, is president of the Liberian Football Association Gianni Infantino, 45, is Uefa's general secretary Michel Platini, 60, is Uefa president and Fifa vice-president Sheikh Salman bin Ebrahim al-Khalifa, 49, is Asian Football Confederation president Tokyo Sexwale, 62, is a South African former government minister
Its a shame Platini is on that list. I'm not sure SA Govt is any less corrupt than FIFA appears to be. So the Sexwale may not be an improvement on matters.

Would of been nice to have an ex top level player or manager on the list, someone who really has the best interests of the game at heart.

Agree, more of the same isn't needed. The politics is such that without 5 nominations, you cannot get into the race.

The German Football Association (DFB) have been raided along with some of the current and previous senior officials to investigate alledged tax evasion. The tax evasion relates to the alledged slush fund for the 2006 World Cup raised by Der Spiegel which the DFB claim was a payment to enable access to greater FIFA subsidies.

And all of a sudden, Blatter is talking negatively about FIFA. I bet he's realised his time there is done. It all just gets worse and worse as people can see they won't get a penny from them any longer.

There was already some interesting allegations about his conduct in the 2018/2022 vote. Seems to not be the person he likes to be perceived as.

The German FA President, Wolfgang Niersbach, yesterday resigned due to the tax evasion investigation into the payment to FIFA in 2006. There is also growing pressure on Franz Beckenbauer over the issue.

He hasn't resigned from FIFA though, which is odd. Probably thinks he's a virtuous guy in that den of inequity.
I always assumed FIFA were the most rotten organisation in sports. Turns out I was wrong. The IAAF make FIFA look like a retirement home bingo club in comparison.

The IAAF situation is also going to run and run with 2 parts of the report still to be released/dealt with by the individual country and the BBC suspect bloods data still being analysed. Seb Coe immediately going all defensive isn't helping either. The Russian Officials denials of state involvement is fantastic along the lines of Comical Ali. Russia has to be banned from the 2016 Olympics but with Seb Coe's approach so far I bet they aren't.

There has been a lot of chat about Kenya being frustrated about losing their grip in middle distance running. Comical Ali sums it up. Russia are not above state sponsored anything, and their pathetic denials are fantastic. Any country found it be systematically doping has to be removed from the Olympics at least for next year and maybe the winter one afterwards, and have all their records with * against them that denotes they are dopers. To stop it, there has to be meaningful punishment. Allowing an apology only validates the mentality of cheat and ask for forgiveness when caught. Seb Coe has been useless. He clearly wants it to all go away but it's only going to get worse. He needs to lead. I bet he wishes he took the job at the BBC now. He's too afraid of the internal politics of the IAAF.

The FIFA Panel investigating £1.3m payment by Sepp Blatter to Michel Platini has called for sanctions to be imposed against them. Apparently, the likely sanction would involve being banned for years, so Platini's football administration career would thankfully be over if the Ethics Committee have some backbone.

It's evident something has changed in FIFA recently. It's not perfect, but it is taking steps it would not have taken 6 months ago. Platini seems desperate to go on his life mission to be Mr FIFA and cannot take the hint.
With Blatter's mini meltdown, I can only think he has realised his precious FIFA that he has cultivated for years has turned against him and his legacy is dust. Quite an ego bruise when you've been king of the castle for so long and people have told you how great you are.

www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/34898229Blatter thought he was dying following a stress related illness; "I was between the angels who were singing and the devil who was lighting the fire, but it was the angels who sang," said Blatter. I think there's only one way he'll be heading when his time comes, and he'd better pack some marshmallows. Someone has to be writing a musical about all this, because there's so much material. The bloke is mad.
