Terrible news. Always looked a great player against us for Stevenage. Shame we never saw the best of him in an Oxford shirt due to his heat condition. Thoughts go out to his family. RIP

In a nice touch, I see that AFC Wimbledon players turned their respect armbands inside out yesterday and wrote "Mitch" on them.

From another site;
Stevenage FC Chairman Phil Wallace is contacting a host of former Boro players and management to invite them to play in a benefit game for Mitchell Cole at the end of the season.
Former manager Graham Westley has already agreed to manage for 45 minutes and the Boro Chairman is trying to contact Mark Stimson, who brought Cole to Stevenage, to manage the other 45.
Wallace said “It’s such a sad, tragic loss of a young life. Mitch was a key figure for us in the seasons that saw us enjoy a lot of success. We all knew of his condition but it’s simply devastating that a young family with such spirit is taken from us so suddenly. Our hearts go out to his family and also to the players and management that worked with him at Stevenage in his 3 years with us.
“It will be a fitting tribute to honour Mitch on the football pitch and I’ve already had offers of help and encouragement from Graham and skipper Mark Roberts to contact the people involved in his daily life here, so that they can be a part of a day to celebrate his life.”
The benefit match will be played at the Lamex Stadium in May and the club are hopeful that most of the players and management that were part of his career with Stevenage will be involved as we look to remember the number 21 with the sport that Mitchell loved.
If any supporters wish to send cards for the family, please send these to the club and we will ensure that all are passed onto his family. Flowers can be placed at the foot of our fixture board, across the ‘SBFC’ bricks, in remembrance of his time playing for us.

Really sad news.. I remember seeing him playing really well against us, then when he played for us it didn't happen. I actually thought he looked lazy when he played for us away at West Ham. Then when his illness came to light it made sense. He knew he had a heart condition and he still played; I think he deserves a lot of respect for that. I lost a very good friend - she was 21 and just collapsed with heart failure. If there isn't a specific charity that we can make donations to for Mitchell then i'd suggest making a donation to cry www.c-r-y.org.uk/I still cant get over this, 27years is nothing. Mitchell Cole was an ambassador to this charity www.cardiomyopathy.org/index.php?id=692. RIP Michell Cole.

I'd like to express my sadness, and condolences, to Mitchells' family. It's hard 'losing' any of your family -especially when they go so young. I had an elder brother who died in his early twenties over forty years ago, there's not a day goes by when i think of him- and feel sadness.
I understand there's going to be a minutes silence before the Aldershot match on Saturday, and, some fans (many more will, i hope, join in) are planning a round of applause and cheering in the **17th minute of the match.
**Mitchells' Squad number.

My condolences to Mitchell's family. I'm sure our thoughts will turn to him tomorrow. It's tragic when someone is so young. Made me think of Martin Aldridge who tragically died nearly 13 years ago, aged only 25. RIP.

Couldn't see this anywhere else so I hope you dont mind me posting on here.
Mitchell's widow, Charly gave birth to a baby girl, Leni, on Friday. I hope that she will bring comfort to the family during the dark times they will be experiencing right now.
Mitchell's funeral will take place in Stevenage on 17th December.
R.I.P. Mitchell & welcome to the world Leni

Maybe the two clubs could do something before the JPT game?

We had a minutes applause before our JPT match against Brentford, but it would be nice if the two teams showed some mark of respect when we meet. Personally I'd like to see a couple of matches (maybe pre-season) between Southend, Oxford, Stevenage & Grays with the proceeds going to his family.
